After like round 5 his agents told teams NOT to sign him or he would not sign his contract. At that point it was better for him to go undrafted.

How so? As an UDFA he can sign a shorter term contract than as a draftee? That's the only reason that would make any sense. Maybe he can negotiate for more guaranteed money this way?

Thats something that came from his agent so im not 100% sure. I think it has to do with his ability to pick the team plus the shorter contract. I imaginevthere isnt much of a difference between UDFA money and 5th round or later money. And whatever difference there is would get offset with a decent contract in his 4th year.

When it comes to innocent and guilty, to us he could legally be innocent but us not want him. If there are things that point to personality traits or a relation to the murder that Scot and Jay dont like, then i agree lets not bring that into our locker room. Scot said in his presser that he is looking for outstanding individuals to build the culture of this team around.

If its obvious though that this is just an unrelated and unfortunate incident that la'el clearly had no part of, we would be stupid to not make our best attempt to aquire him.

My guess is either there is infornation that Scot knows that makes him not feel comfortable bringing him in, or he is holding his cards close to his chest to keep it unknown that we are interested.

Both things. That's it exactly.

He's eligible for restricted free agency after three years instead of four. He can also negotiate a long term contract extension after two years instead of three. Its not ideal, but the best option in his situation. Still a big risk for him.

This was such a crazy situation. I don't really understand why the league didn't honor his request to enter the supplemental draft instead. That would have given everyone more time for the situation to resolve itself and would have been the most fair thing for this kid and teams interested in him.

So it was found the kid was not his (doesnt matter a whole lot) but he also passed a polygraph that was conducted to determin if he had any involvement.

We should be looking into getting this kid right away.

You can bring it up. What makes it a valid comparison though?

I haven't been cleared in this case yet either btw.

You know in hindsight might have been worth spending the final 7th round pick on him just to make sure something like this didn't happen. Pukes pretty much got a free extra first round pick.

Yea with 10 picks you thought SM might have taken a chance on him, but he made is clear that character was an issue. He drafted a few in Seattle with issues; maybe that’s why it’s an issue now??

Yeah I don't doubt that at all. I'm just saying as a tactical move it would have made huge sense. You could have drafted him with a 7th round pick last week, traded him to the Bills this week for a third rounder in 2016 and prevented Dallas from getting him. lol.

This is completely 20/20 hindsight now.

Yea I don't understand how nobody spent a draft pick on him at all. Even if he ends up being guilty, it's only a 7th round pick and if he's not I've seen him play pretty darn well on tape.

None of the players we drafted have cleared in this case. Nor have any of the players on roster. For that matter DS hasn't been cleared either.

I think they took his agent's threat seriously: he said that if Collins got drafted after the third round, his plan was to not sign a contract and spend the year working out, then next year re-enter the draft.

This bugs me. Wtf should this be allowed to happen? The pokes get an extra first round talent- why? Because glory hole was the most persuading? The leagues best o line gets better due to playing favorites?

I know our oline needs help and that makes it more bitter to swallow- but a team like NO or GB with elite qbs and poor olines wouldve been more understandable- going to the pukes just makes this whole situation feel slimey.

Obviously it was handled poorly, with the most horrible possible outcome. I wish him nothing but the very worst- as with his whole team!

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be able to re-enter next year's draft. Whoever drafted him would own his rights, kind of like the situation with Herschel Walker when he signed with the USFL. Dallas used a late round pick on him anyway, and when the USFL folded, they held his rights. Maybe the new CBA spells out different rules for that, but it's hard to believe the owners would give that up, when they pretty much got everything they wanted from the deal.

Yes that rule has changed..
Eligibility:

•A player must be out of high school for at least three years to be eligible for the draft.
If a player enters the draft but does not sign a contract, that player can be drafted again the following year.
•If a player does not declare for the draft, but is deemed academically ineligble later on, there is a supplemental draft in the summer that occurs. Teams submit a bid for the round in which they would like to take one of the players, and if their bid is the highest, they will get that player, and lose the subsequent pick the following year.

Yep, the only way for him to reenter the draft, ironically, is if he was drafted this year.

Once all teams skipped on him, he had to go the UDFA if he wanted to play in the league.

I still think the new CBA agreement has screwed over these young men and that this situation is just further evidence of it.
