Offensive Line
After the draft what are your expectations for the offensive line? With coach Callahan and the 3 additional 300 lb additions, I expect a marked improvement.
Re: Offensive Line
I think Scherrf will be an immediate improvement but I am dissappointed Scot used 3 and 4 for a big back and a return man instead of picking a G/C with those picks who may be ready to start. The big back might turn out to be the second coming of Marshawn Lynch and I'll be very grateful Scot picked and the OG & C Scot picked late may work out but today I'm dissappointed. When he surprised us with Scherrf I thought he would fill the shopping kart with OLM from aisle 3 &4. So many other guys got OGs in 3 & 4, but not Scot.
The answer to your question is I think we'll see at least some improvement but I don't know if the late selectios will be part of the 2015 starting line. Maybe a couple of the guys they picked last year will step up.

Re: Offensive Line
I expect a line that ranks in the top 50% of the league. With Trent being coached up better than ever, thevaddition of Scherff as our other bookend, and a host of bigger guys competing for the 3 middle spots, in addition to one of the best OL coaches in the league, I think to expect a big jump is more than fair.
I also expect much improved play from Griffin, he will be behind by far the best line hes ever had. There are no more excuses going forward.
2 more drafts and years under Callahan and our new strength coach and we should have a top 5 offensive linwline.

Oldschool, buy into Scots BPA approach. Guard and Center werent at the top of his chart, so he went elsewhere with the picks.
Rome wasnt built in a day.
Re: Offensive Line
Also, no guarantees anyone available there were any better than what we have now. Honestly, not convinced the guard we got in the 4th from Dematha is going to start day 1, probably a reserve. So, any OL picked at that point was probably for depth while Jones and Crowder could offer something we didn't have day 1.
Re: Offensive Line
I still think one of the guards we have drafted need to take a job. It should help a lot to have good protection at the right tackle spot, gives the qbs the option to run to their strong side. But the big problem last year was there being no pocket 80% of the time. Somebody needs to depose a guard and pass block effectively. Maybe even have somebody take Kory's job. Kouandjio was actually one of the higher rated guards, and I think he was the 4th one selected, so there wasn't much there being he was taken in rd 5. I like Spencer Long and was disappointed he didn't find a way to crack the lineup. Maybe this is the year.
Re: Offensive Line
let's try and keep in perspective the game plan now in operation here ... the FO is trying to build an offensive line - that process is going to take a couple of years - almost any additions are going to be better than what we've had - the plan is to add linemen and have them playing well together in 2017 - we need to add 4 starters - you cannot do that in a single draft
it's a good start to replacing everyone on this line except Trent Williams

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I can see that a new team personality is being developed...
On D, it will be very difficult to run on the Redskins...
On O, a smash mouth, snot knocking philosophy is being implemented.
I am happy.

Re: Offensive Line
Right tackle will be vastly improved next season.
The play of whichever guard plays will be helped by that improvement alongside him.
If none of our current roster stakes a decent claim on the spot, that'll get a new player somewhere down the line too.
This off-season is just the start of the overhaul

Re: Offensive Line
Basically last years Oline is put on notice. Excluding Williams of course.
That if they want to keep a job they better step it up. Moses and Long better work out hard this off season or else they wont have a starting job. Scherff takes a starting spot automatically either RT or G.
So we have our bookends. Every other spot is up for grabs. I think Reiter may push to start right away. Who knows it just depends on how hard the players are willing to work.
Whoever earns it will take the starting spots. Either way we have a great Oline coach and now have some talent to utilize as well. Good things happening.

I'll be surprised if either late OL pick starts day 1. Kouandjio may break into the starting lineup during the season.

Re: Offensive Line
I've heard multiple times from Jay and Scot that he wants to go back to the "hogs" big and strong guys on the oline. It seems he wants that for the majority of players. Lets hope it leads to success!

the best thing is that it really does seem as though these guys are going to get to make things happen here
I am really encouraged that we're going to see both players and coaches understanding that this franchise is being managed properly

BPA -- everyone was so convinced that this meant - regardless of Need.
Haslett predicted we'd take Scherff -- his way of putting it was -- "BPA in an area of need"
We needed to protect our qb - and fast.

Re: Offensive Line
and we took the BPA for our franchise even though he was not the BPA in the draft
going into this draft this franchise needed players at just about every position - so saying that need was a factor is technically true but in this draft unlike the past where the Redskins would draft players basically based on what positions we needed to make better, this FO took the best players for this franchise for the long term and and not the short term
taking Scherff instead of Williams (THE BPA in the draft) was a great sign that we were no longer drafting for need as Snyder would have had us do but more for what this FO felt was in the best interests of this franchise in the long term
we're not worrying about protecting the QB in 2015 anymore than we normally would - we're involved with replacing 4 of the 5 starters on this line so that we can have a chance at having a good O line in 2017
so we did draft for need but that is because we needed to start finding starters at so many positions
it was a great start for this FO and hopefully Snyder stays out of the way and Gruden can now find a way to do his job a lot better than he did

You are making the false assumption that Scherff was a need pick, and not BPA, just because he happens to play at a position of need. According to reports, Scherff was #3 on Scot's board, and the first two (not OL, btw) were already taken. If you look at our other picks, it's clearly evident that he was going BPA all the way, and need never factored into it. Let it go already.

Don't bother man. Fred has constipation of the brain when it comes to this topic.

He was the best available on McCloughan's board. Fowler was #1, Cooper #2, and Scherff #3. After the two QBs were taken, the Jags and Raiders picked up 1 and 2.
Lots of people are saying that Williams is a better overall player. As of Thursday night that was my view, and for all I know the experts are right. But what is clear is that McCloughan's belief is that Williams was not a top three player in the draft.
taking Scherff instead of Williams (THE BPA in the draft)
I think I disagree with you. If McCloughan believed that Williams was the best player in the draft, we would have taken him.

All of the available evidence points to Scherff just being a BPA pick. Literally everything McCloughan has said about drafting strategy since he got here supports it. When he and the coaches talk about what they prioritize highest in a prospect — the qualities they look for in determining who will be the best player — it makes perfect sense that Scherff was so high on their list. As you point out, we even got a peak at the Redskins actual board thanks to a media leak, which corroborates that Scherff should have been our pick had we gone BPA at #5. And if that wasn't enough, the rest of our draft does nothing but prove what strategy we were using.
I can't think of a single piece of evidence to suggest otherwise, except for pointing out that we needed a RT. Thin gruel.

I was just listening to Scot's press conference going on right now. He said at #5 they were definitely considering trading down, but all of the phone calls he got were from teams looking to trade up to get DANTE FOWLER. No trade offers once Fowler came off the board.
Weird that nobody was trying to trade up for Leonard Williams.

Yeah, I found the criticism of the Redskins' not moving to be bizarre. We could only have moved down three slots and still taken Scherff. The Jets had no reason to trade with us, which means that in practical terms it had to be the Bears or Falcons getting on the phone to make an offer. Does anyone seriously believe we had them on the line and turned down an extra pick?
Hard to blame a team for staying put when you aren't actually getting interest.
