I know it man, totally agree. My big fear is what happens this fall when we're not experiencing immediate success. We need McGloughan to stick to his guns, and Snyder to be patient and back him up.

Heres my OUTSIDE THE BOX Pick 5 and 7rd mock

1- Trea Waynes CB/Mich St
2- Donovan Smith OT/Penn St
3- Ben Koyack TE/ND
4- Lynden Trail OLB/Norfolk St
5- Shaq Mason C/Georgia Tech
6- Antwan Goodley WR/Baylor
7- Derrick Lott OLB or DE/Chattanooga

Reasoning: I believe Waynes is BPA at 5 and CB is a premium position. With Amerson falling off and Hall being real old, large cap # and coming off injury, its easy to justify this selection. Smith improves OL. Koyack provides depth as Reed cant prove to stay healthy. Trail adds depth at OLB or if he gains weight could play DE in 4 man fronts. Mason would push Kory. Goodley would replace Moss as a slot guy, returner and Baylor connection to RG3. Lott at 6'4" 300 can move inside in 4 man fronts and play DE in the 3-4 (versatile).

This would allow the team to try Amerson at FS or trade him. MAYBE with Ike Taylor retiring and H.Miller getting older MAYBE we can trade Amerson/Paul to the Steelers for #22 maybe even throwing in a future mid/late round pick to make this happen....SELECTION: Byron Jones DB/UConn.......

^^ we stocked up on CB this offseason.. Amerson is likely a sub and Hall *likely has been pushed to nickle duties.

Would be VERY surprised to see a CB called @ 5... unless he is the Darrell Green reincarnate!

I think Amerson can be good if he were put in the right scheme. He was asked to do too much from a terrible defensive coordinator.
Then again we have a rookie D coordinator so I am not sure how its going to go.

Trae Waynes at no.5 I wouldn't complain. Not my first choice of position to go after but hes worthy of a top ten pick. Hes the best corner prospect.

We should all be happy that no matter what position we draft if we can get pro bowl production for close to ten years it would be a win.

Interesting. Smith and Koyack seem kind of high in the second and third, but who knows...? I gave your "outside the box" idea a go:

1- Amari Cooper WR/Alabama
2- Mario Edwards JR DT/Florida State (He was still here at R2P5 in my mock draft)
3- PJ Williams CB/Florida State
4- Rob Havenstein OT/Wisconsin
5- Adrian Amos S/Penn State
6- Hayes Pullard ILB/USC
7- Sean Mannion QB/Oregon State

I don't think we "stocked up" at CB but I did forget about Culliver signing. You can NEVER have too many good CBs..as offenses usually deploy a lot of 3 wr sets. Trea Waynes is a "homer pick" He and Melvin Gordon are from my HS......

Interesting and I like Cooper but we would have to move/cut one of our starters...PJ will NOT be there in the 3rd...I forgot about Havenstein and Im from Wisconsin. I don't think Mannion lasts to the 7th but maybe and if taking a flyer at QB in 7th rd.....Bo Wallace.

If Scott does go BPA approach, then Waynes, Beasley or either WR would be the possibilities. Gregory probably before the failed combine test. Mariotta maybe if we can move RG3 in that amount of time...I don't think you can have all 3 QBs here this year. RG3 has a 1/2 year IMO and if he does well will see the rest of year...IF he tanks or gets hurt again, Cousins should get the hard look at....I just don't see McCoy being the viable future.

Charles Davis has the Skins taking Williams from USC at #5.

that would be freakin unbelievable - I just don't see how the best player in the draft gets to the #5 spot

I don't understand how anyone with any sense at all can justify making that prediction

crazy things can happen but that is really out there - gotta love it
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Why do you think that? I think Garcon or Jackson is gone next year, but taking an early WR in the first round or second round won't affect anything this year. We're under the salary cap now. Not like we would have to cut one of them to make room.

I'd probably prefer the edge rusher with the #5 pick myself, but getting a Cooper or White this year would still pretty awesome in building for the future.

RG3peat wrote:PJ will NOT be there in the 3rd

Yeah he was there in the mock draft I ran, but I agree he could be gone by the second. Either way, I think he's a first round CB whose stock has dropped because of some bonehead off the field incidents. If he was available in the third round I'd definitely take him.

Because you have to play Cooper all the time to justify taking at 5.....so who sits the bench in 2 wr sets?? Along with Roberts who we just signed last year. If you cant find PT, you might as well cut the slary or try trading 1 of them.

If we drafted Cooper its simple. You just run more 3WR sets.
Amari Cooper, Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon. Thats a pretty good set of WRs.

We once had Clark, Sanders and Monk. So its not like it would be a problem. Gruden ran plenty of 3Wr sets so its not anything new for Gruden.

But if we must. I say I would play all three and test them all out. If Cooper is as advertised he should beat them all out for the no.1 reciever position. By next year we should get rid of Garcon and we would have Cooper and Jackson as our starters.

Did Garcon just lead the league in catches 2 years ago....or darn close? Jackson is obviously the deep threat but that didn't equate into wins...picking a WR would be a luxury which we don't have..Too many holes including QB

I mean I guess if you can trade one that's ok, but what benefit is there to cutting the salary? Would you rather save Snyder's money this year or have as many weapons as possible at WR? Aren't you in better position for a year if one of these guys get injured?

It all depends on who is the BPA at no. 5. If Williams is available at no.5 I would take him in a snap over Cooper. But if I have to choose between the OLB prospects and Cooper. I think Cooper is far more polished and a sure thing.
I would take Winston, Marriota, Williams and maybe Shelton over Cooper. Trae Waynes is also an option I would consider over Cooper.

Scott has said repeatedly that he prefers to draft best player on the board. Cooper is amongst the top 5 players available. If not the top one or two WRs.

That's what BPA is all about. We are not drafting for need, so no, picking a WR is not a "luxury which we don't have."

it's patently obvious that many here do not understand the BPA scenario or what is really going on here

HOPEFULLY we are now planning ahead & adding players that will help the franchise not just for now but more importantly in 2 or 3 years

HOPEFULLY the people that used to make decisions here are no longer making ANY decisions here

Right on, man. McGloughan has said repeatedly: You address needs in free agency. You build your team through the draft.

I understand that WR isn't an urgent need the way safety has been. But you don't have to look very hard to see that we're going to need a WR in less than a year. Its hardly a "luxury" to draft a WR this year.

I've seen you post this a few times, but I just have to ask: "Says who?" I'm not sure Mariotta looks like a scheme fit for Tampa or Tennessee either, but those teams are considering drafting him.

He played a spread offense in college, and he's going to have to learn to play a pro style offense pretty much anywhere he goes in the NFL. I'm not sure how the Redskins and Gruden are different from any other team in the league. I assume every team is looking at Mariotta's potential and making a decision on whether he can make the transition to a pro style offense or not, yeah?

I don't think they would draft him btw. I think they'll be too nervous about drafting RGIII II. :)

If RGIII never get's hit by Ngata, I think there is a very different take on his career.
