Defending the latest Griffin interview.

Just to stir the pot, im gonna predict (not based on fact, but justba hunch) that Griffin finishes the season as a top 10 qb this year, without injury.

Why?

We know he has the physical ability. We know he is intelligent. We know he has a passion for the game. We know he has the work ethic.

If he actually has been humbled. If he is bought into the system and him and Gruden are on good terms. If he is dedicated to less working out his body and more his mind. And if he can drop the arrogance and really be a team leader... he has a good chance of major progression this year.

I think after being brought down to reality by Gruden and the media, he is ready to move forward in his career.

I am going to comment on a couple of items. Regarding his intelligence I would agree Griffin is a bright young man. He graduated from Baylor in 3 years while playing football. Clearly he is intelligent but there are different kinds of intelligence. I don't know the proper names physiologists use to identify different sorts of intelligence but I know they have identified several types.

We all know certain people are more gifted in math while others have better verbal intelligence. Than you have people with social intelligence, musical or artistic senses. A person may possess quite a bit of some sorts of intelligence and be substantially lacking in others. Einstein was poor in mathematics for example. In my opinion it is not clear whether Griffin has enough spatial intelligence, if that is the right term, to process what he sees on the field as rapidly as needed to play QB in the NFL. He can be a very bright man but not gifted in doing that. I'm not saying he doesn't have that sort of intelligence but I believe it is fair to say he has not convincingly demonstrated it thus far. Maybe he will this year.

You assert he has a great work ethic but multiple coaches and others in a position to know have complained that he doesn't spend enough time studying film. You believe he has a great work ethic because he works hard in the gym. Maybe you are right but his work ethic doesn't sound great to me if two coach regimes tell him to spend more time studying film and he doesn't. The complaints about his lack of film study were made many months ago, maybe he spent this post season studying films.

That said, I hope you are right and he has a tremendous year as a pocket QB in 2015 and proves all his critics including me wrong. I'd love for the Skins to improve and start winning again. Despite our misgiving we might as hope for it because according to the public comments by Gruden Griffin is going to be given the QB job again. Maybe this time he earns it on the field, let's hope.

Oldschool I agree, your points are fair, and only time will tell.

With work ethic, he has it, better than most in the league, it has just been misdirected. He thought he could be faster and throw harder than anyone else out there and that make him great. I think he may realize now thats just a small part of it. So if he can take that same work ethic and direct most of it to film study and as he himself said, working on the little things, he may be able to prove something to everyone.

Where has any coach questioned his work ethic?? Ive always heard "first one in last one out..." nonstop football prep in the offseason... I dont get it.

Imo Gym time IS working on his game, and conducive of a strong work ethic. I golf, and still spend a lot of time @ the gym to better my game. Can it be argued that id be better served working on my short game? Sure. Doesn't mean my work ethic is lousy, just means I need to redirect my focus; work on the little things.

Watching film alone doesn't seem to me very beneficial if the know all tell all isnt there pointing out weaknesses and directing strategies to do better. Maybe most qbs just see it on film and can point that all out idk. Is it film on the opposing D or his game film? Seems like a "coach" would be beneficial to be there too-

I was going to get seriously involved in this thread but, after further thought, I've decided that I just don't care what RG3 says or thinks, or what anybody else says or thinks about what he says or thinks. Fair play to him for lowering his media profile in recent months, but spouting a few excellent catchphrases in an interview proves nothing to me.

He'll only be able to prove himself on the field, in games. I care about what he DOES there, and nothing else. If he gets back to being successful, then all those traits that seem a little irritating right now will return to be endearing and amusing.

But my word, he'd really be helped by having a decent team around him.

They still have a month to decide. Don't be so sure they won't make the move; the salary is not guaranteed unless RGIII is injured going into the 2016 season.
