Sent the bucks a 2016 6th round pick and the Skins receive a 2016 7th rounder in return. Not sure what salary he carries with him as the Bucks unload 8 mil in cap hit

I think this is a GREAT trade. Just a 6th next year, and we get a 7th? Even if he doesn't pan out, It is a good trade!

Mississippi Hog wrote:At that number, I would anticipate a reworking of the contract. If Scott is who he appears to be, probably worked that out before the trade, I hope!

That's what I'm thinking, too... This probably works out well for all... He was likely to be a cap casualty... so, Tampa gets out from under a bad cap number, and a player who may not match the skill set needed for Lovie's Tampa 2, Goldston gets a reasonable contract, and the Redskins get a decent SS... Good deal for all.

I am so psyched about this. Safety was the one position where I thought we absolutely had to get some help via free agency, and I think SM has done that without making any ridiculous deals. Its a very minor swap of picks next year and NFL.com reports:

"Without a contract restructure, Goldson is owed roughly $4 million guaranteed in 2015, according to league records."

We'll see if the guy can be really good again or just serviceable. Either way, I feel better about our safeties with Jeron Johnson, Goldson and maybe Philip Thomas? than I did about Ryan Clark and Merriweather. You guys?

Low risk move. I like it bc safety was a such low position. I'm listening to espn 980. They are saying he has a much better chance with success if good passrush

Seems he is another Brandon Meriweather when it comes to the helmet to helmet hits, though. Hope he can stay off the suspension list.

He stayed off the suspension list in 2014. Unlike Merriweather.

When I heard the word "redskins" and "trade"... I took a deep breath....

I was pleasantly surprised. This is LITERALLY the first time in my adult life I have been happy about the way our offseason moves are going. For the first time in decades we are not overpaying for players, we are acquiring younger guys (although Goldson is 30...), and/or not giving away draft picks.

You DRAFT stars and SIGN depth. That appears to be what Scot is doing.

It feels GREAT!
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

Agreed, a super trade. Get him into camp, if he's not able to play at a high level and is done, he costs us only $500K workout bonus. TB is paying the guaranteed portion, so the remainder is not guaranteed.

If he is still able to play, a great hitter...gives us a year or two to find another free safety.

Scot is brilliant. Thank God Bruce knew his limitations!!!

I like this new GM. I don't know how many of his acquisitions will pan out but he seems to be quietly working on incrementally improving the team. In the past so many Snyder era trades or FA acquisitions seem designed to hype sales with splashy headline grabbing big name deals that didn't work out. The Fat Albert and Griffin debacles being the worst but there were lots other deals the were so much more flash than substance. Maybe it is wish fulfillment on my part, I might seeing what I want so badly to see, but this GM seems to be quietly working on building a better team.

The trade for Griffin, who immediately turned in a ROY performance, is in no way a debacle. Poor play after injuries isn't a damn debacle. it's bad luck. It doesn't even come close to comparing to Hayneworthless, deion, bruce smith, everything in the spurrier era, . . . I realize that the "give it to me now" 24 hour news cycle, everything is a story nature of today's day and age inhibits rationale thought, but seriously. The horse is dead, Griffin is the QB. Move. On.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

3 first round and 1 second pick for a QB without NFL skills is a megabust in my opinion. You might have been impressed with his performance running a high school offense in 2012 I wasn't it confirmed my fears he didn't have NFL skills. His 2012 injury wasn't bad luck it was predictable running QBs always get injured in the NFL. His ankle injury in 2014 was bad luck but he sucked in 2013 and 2014 before got hurt and that wasn't bad luck it was confirmation that he was a 3 first round 1 second megabust. I don't think another franchise would even give a 4th round pick for Griffin now, he's one of the biggest busts in NFL history. Can you think of a player a team spent 3 first rounds and 1 second picks for who did less than Griffin? I can't think of a pick/trade as remotely bad as this one other than Herschel Walker but zi think he gave the Vikings some at least mediocre seasons. That was a long time ago I can't remember now.

I side with emoses. But idk if he will be starting in 2016. If you think he's the biggest bust your a biased idiot! Ryan Leaf was way worse.

Did Ryan Leaf cost 1 first round pick or 3 firsts and 1 second? I might be mistaken, please correct me if I am wrong, but I think they only spent 1 pick on Leaf. Three wasted first rounders and a second for a guy who fails to become a long term starter is much worse than squandering 1 pick. The Skins only spent 1 first rounder on Heath Schuler another bust but since it was just 1 first round pick Heath wasn't a megabust.

There has only been one notorious rebutthole round these parts for the last year...

Except when Cousins was stinking up the place.. he was "golfing" or something other then watching our team.

Not sure how EVERY thread one person touches can turn into an RgHate campaign. . Id gladly give the picks all over again for the contending year, dullass sweep, nfcE title, multiple nationally televised games won, records being broken for us instead of VS us- oh and the playoffs!

Oldstool you can put what ever u want in your pipe and smoke it, but to not give Robert any credit is ludicrous! Mike all but quit on the team before the streak and much of it was Robert carrying the team.
The injury was a freak accident, not getting drilled for running.. ask Bradford about pocket passers acl's being less at risk!!
Luckily we have non biased people with football IQ running the show now. I wonder what itll take to quiet the haterz..

Dashon referred to Sean Taylor in his introduction to us fans, and emphasize his admiration- while tempering expectations he explained he isn't trying to replace or be him. Pretty honorable statements coming to a new team.. im trying to find a text version I can paste but its all images of the text
