Re: POLL: Who would you like the team to PICK at #5
Frankly, I think the Eagles are out of the running anyway, as they no longer have the picks to make the value they'd need... Not that it matters in this scenario, anyway.

Re: POLL: Who would you like the team to PICK at #5
This is a strong draft for edge rushers, and I really want to see an athletic animal playing opposite Ryan Kerrigan. The days of Manley and Mann are so long ago, I fear that half the members on this board have only seen them in grainy You Tube videos. So, I want to see a fast, athletic, playmaking, pass-rushing terror coming on board with out first round pick. For me, that player is......
.....Vic Beasley. He absolutely nailed the combine, showing all the physical attributes we need. Speed, quickness, agility. And if you watch some of the tape, those same attributes show up on gameday. I think he's got a chance to be great, and I want him in burgundy and gold!
As for the other well publicised edge rushers: Randy Gregory looked very lightweight at the combine, and wasn't very fast considering that weight. Shane Ray is also light, and seems to be a bit of a one trick pony. Dante Fowler might end up being the best of the lot, but he's also got a hint of "bust" about him.
After the combine, it's Beasley for me. But not just because of his results at the combine - as I said, the athleticism also shows up on game tape.

It does seem like the smartest pick at #5 just looking at which players will likely be available. I like what I've seen from Beasley too, wouldn't be disappointed in that pick at all.

Vic Beasley does look like a good candidate ...
we really cannot afford a 'miss' here - there are a number of good players that are going to be available and I really doubt that these guys will make a 'bad' selection .. if, in fact, we do use this pick ...
I like the lead up to this draft ....

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

That's it right there, man. If we just take best football player we can get there, we can't miss. Let's be honest too. We have a "need" at pretty much every position on the field, so I don't have much concern that we'll be drafting a player we really don't need. lol.

Re: POLL: Who would you like the team to PICK at #5
If we do use the #5 pick, it will certainly be the most exciting part of the draft, on a superficial level. But the most important part of the draft actually starts after the first round is over. The team needs depth and quality EVERYWHERE, and it is in these later rounds where that depth can be built. Just look at the Seahawks' much vaunted secondary, and look at where they were drafted.

Another athletic beast who has seen more publicity since the combine is Alvin Dupree. I'd be happy with him, if we traded out of the 5th pick.

Not something we've been very good at. I agree with what you're saying too. It really shouldn't be that hard to draft a good player at #5. I'm really hopeful about what McGloughan can do with those later round picks like you've said.

Maybe a big, fast, strong safety who idolized Sean Taylor?
Re: POLL: Who would you like the team to PICK at #5
#5 pick for me has to be Fowler...
We now have a respectable front 3 that can provide pressure. We will be able to get creative in disguising pass rushes, blitzs, and in coverage in the middle of the field because of that.
We can line fowler up on the right lb spot to rush, swap him and kerrigan, put him in the middle, drop him into coverage, have him shadow a qb or rb for teams that require that. He is so versitile he would open up what we can do defensively by leaps and bounds over just a beast pass rusher.
If we can con the browns out of their 2 first round picks though... we can likely either get luck with Collins still on the board at 12 and get an o lineman at 17, or still get a good ILB or pass rusher at #12.

Id LOVE to see him in the burgundy and gold.. but @ #5 is a reach.
I vote Collins, but by trading back and acquiring another 1st or 2nd rounder.
#21 forever in our hearts

That would be a great scenario. Fingers crossed.

That just blows my mind. How much money did that kid just cost himself because he couldn't lay off the weed for a few weeks before the combine?
I actually appreciate his doing us all a favor and doing this now rather than after we'd already drafted him at #5.

And if he DID drop to the middle of the 1st round, and to a spot that we'd traded down to, should we pick him then? A risk at #5, but an awful lot of upside for a mid 1st round pick.

Re: POLL: Who would you like the team to PICK at #5
I would have said Gregory if you can put some weight on him, but with the fail, I would go with Beasley. Assuming Fowler's gone. I don't have anything against Shane Ray, looks like he has a good motor, I just don't see the explosiveness of Gregory/Beasley, and he doesn't have a lot of size either. Beasley seems to have some pass rush moves already as well. Although now I see that Beasley has slid considerably, so they'll probly take Ray. I wouldn't count out Dupree either, he's got a little size.

Re: POLL: Who would you like the team to PICK at #5
The closer we get to the draft, the more convinced I become that McCloughan's preferred option is to trade out of the top of the draft. With a mid 1st round pick, two seconds and a third, he could still pick up an elite pass rusher, rebuild the offensive line and pick up a decent prospect at free safety. Well, that's how it works in my fantasy land, anyway!

Re: POLL: Who would you like the team to PICK at #5
Y'all are setting your sights too low. There is a path... yes a slim one... that can result in the best player in this draft falling to 5. If Winston and Mariotta are taken among the first 2, and the next 2 draft for need, Williams may still be there. This IS possible. Instant BEAST DL. Suddenly, Murphy becomes a much better pass rusher, and Kerrigan gets even better than he is already!

Re: POLL: Who would you like the team to PICK at #5
I suspect that's absolutely right... of course, it requires that a player that others really want badly to still be on the board at the time. I think if that player is Williams, we take him. If it's Mariotta, we look for a trading partner. I doubt that there are any other players whom could lure a partner to the table at the price we'd want.UK Skins Fan wrote:The closer we get to the draft, the more convinced I become that McCloughan's preferred option is to trade out of the top of the draft. Re: POLL: Who would you like the team to PICK at #5
If Williams somehow, miraculously, drops to number 5, then the Redskins will have a dream scenario. Either pick the best player in this year's draft, or watch the trade offers come rolling in. I would be happy with whatever choice they made in that situation. We'd either end up with one of the very best defensive lines in the league, or possibly have half a dozen picks in the top three rounds for McCloughan to work some magic.

I'm thinking Beasley, in reading thru the thread I hardly see him mentioned is there something about him I'm missing?
