Signed 3 year 9 mil. I think this is a good start to the off season! Fairly needed. Assuming he will play nose tackle, have read iin other articles he is flexible with the other line positions in 3-4

Here are his stats with his size. I like that he is 6'3 and almost 300 pounds. And his stats show he is only getting better!

Re: Ricky Jean-Francois
Yeah just read about this. Not sure he is worth 3 mill a year, but Scot drafted him so I trust he knows otherwise.
Re: Ricky Jean-Francois
I'm very surprised that we gave a guy the Colts (lousy Defense) cut...$3 mil a year -- hmmmm
I was expecting vet min.

Supposedly he was a cap casualty, so a little different.

Re: Ricky Jean-Francois
After seeing how his salary was structured, I'm not so surprised. Only $4 mil guaranteed.
Re: Ricky Jean-Francois
This could be a sign we are moviing out of the 5 spot, or think Shelton would be gone already.

Imagine him as an end with Shelton at the nose and Cofield at the other end.

Jean Francois, 28, recorded a career-best 28 tackles and three sacks last season for the Colts.
A 28 year old guy that most of have never heard of who plays one of the least glamorous positions on the field signed to a modest contact. Sounds good to me. Welcome to DC!
The 49ers were interested in bringing him back too.

He was cut for cap reasons. It's possible they are clearing space to make a big splash (Ngata).
Also, minor point, but worth mentioning: the Colts defense was mediocre last year, not lousy. There's a difference.
I was expecting vet min.
Why? You are setting yourself up for disappointment. Vet min is for players who can't catch on elsewhere or who are getting a second chance. This is a role player with decent-looking stats who had multiple teams pursuing him (he met with Seattle, 49ers, and us, and probably had other teams on the phone). Vet minimum was never going to happen.

Maybe. However, this guy is something of a specialist and signed a modest, short-term contract. I have a hard time seeing how this move signals much about our long-term plans. I think instead McCloughan was looking to add depth and thought this guy would provide it.

This guy may have gone undrafted if not for Scot. He probably likes Scot. He's a big man who will likely bring good chemistry and leadership as well.

Could signal the end for Coefield or Bowen or both….He’s just as good as either and is two years younger and much cheaper…Hard not to like the thinking behind this move!

Re: Ricky Jean-Francois
Colfield out RJF in Scot is making incremental changes hopefully a net plus, I like this modest incremental improvement effort much more that big splash Fat Albert moves.

And Bowen lol.
Hoping this is just the beginning. Get rid of overpaid vets, restructure others (garcon) go into the season way under the cap, and front load some of our big contracts (desean and trent) to provide more cap space in the future.

Re: Ricky Jean-Francois
Decent signing. A relatively cheap and healthy 28 year old comes in, while two badly banged up over 30s are released. I don't think this has any impact on draft strategy though - we could still draft two defensive linemen in the first three rounds this year, and it wouldn't be overkill.

Totally agree and that's how it should be.

Re: Ricky Jean-Francois
So is this guy slated for the NT position? He looks to take over the Cofield spot.
If he will be NT, does that "mean" ..............we won't go after NT Danny Shelton in the draft? I hope not. I like Shelton for the Skins.

I think at 300lbs hes a bit light for what we are targeting a NT for. We are looking for players over 320 up to 350 I think. He could compete for a DE position or be here for depth.
