People that disagree with his opinions have the honor of being placed on his "ignore" list. Since I disagreed with basically everything he said over that period, I was gratiously placed on the ignore list. I, honest to the man above, consider that an accomplishment.

True. I just went back to look at the top 10 of that draft btw. There were some really bad or iffy picks that year. Richardson, Claiborne, Blackmon, Mark Barron...

Its interesting to read what was said at the time about these two picks though:
RGIII #2 - Washington

The two things that set RG3 and Luck apart are concerns about RG3's durability and how long it will take for him to transition to more of a pro-style offense. While there are concerns about the pro-style offense, he's done it enough in college that you know he'll be successful in the NFL. If Luck is 1, then RG3 is 1A. In fact, he has an even stronger arm and he moves just as well. If he stays healthy, he'll be the quarterback Washington so desperately needed and well worth the picks they gave up to get him.

Luke Kuechly #9 - Carolina

Kuechly is one of the best overall football players in this draft. He locates and gets to the ball quickly as a run defender. Though he doesn't have elite fluidity, he shows great range, instincts and hands in coverage. He's just a very sound tackler who doesn't let ball carriers get away.

I know QB is highly valued, but that line about "one of the best overall football players in this draft" stands out to me. Just take the best football player and you've drafted a pro bowl linebacker.

As long as it isn't a receiver, I think BPA should be a serious upgrade. I would be somewhat disappointed if it isn't an Olineman or a Dlineman or safety. There are so many holes it really is hard to go wrong.

1. Leonard Williams - just saying cuz everybody else saying he is top guy. Havent seen film.

2. Brandon Scherff - Would be a probowler at guard. Real solid RT. He is nasty and remind me of Tre Johnson with his run blocking. Best player available outside of L. Williams would be Scherff. Typically he would fall a tad lower but with the lack of oline elite tackles...wouldnt be mad to get an immediate upgrade here.

3. Shane Ray - May be the best natural pass rusher in the draft. Would fit the 3-4. Quick first step, remind me of a Trent Cole. Use finesse over strength and would like to see him get a lil stronger...but after seeing film he increased his stock with me.

3. Ereck Flowers - has all the measurables and pretty balanced in run and pass. Benched 225 at 37 reps.

4. Randy Gregory - Most potential of entire draft, but thats all he has been thus far is potential. Dont know if he was dedicated enough, didnt see a motor. Very athletic, poor man Von Miller. Looks like a #1 pick on highlights but if you look at extensive game film, too many times he disappear.

5. Danny Shelton - We definitely need a real nose tackle and his stock rised recently, but he probably middle of the pack guy and dont see him being Haloti Ngata like some say. May not even be better than a healthy Cofield. With that said if we trade down i would giv him a look. Tough to read NT play though sometimes b/c you dont know their responsibilities...he is strong but didnt really see him penetratin too much or chasin down plays after they got pass the first level.

6. Dante Fowler - Would be better suited in 4-3 de in my eyes. Have the frame to probably put on weight 15-20 probably mid way thru his nfl career. Hand in the dirt guy Preferably. Could be top of de/lb class, however may take a few years. Doesnt get off snap too good but strong and use his legs well.


Overall I dont think we will get Willams so I would get Scherff or trade down a few slots (top 10 tho) and look at these other guys. Honestly none of the lbs in this draft is an obvious Upgrade over Orakpo. Shelton probably no better than Cofield overall. Gregory could be a monster but is light.

One thing about Scherff is that he seems to be one of those high character, real football players that McGloughan is always talking about.

He’ll enter the NFL as close to game-day ready as any rookie, having started all 26 games his last two seasons at left tackle for Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz, widely respected for developing durable, well-schooled linemen.

Scherff also boasts appealing versatility. NFL scouts are divided on whether he’s best suited as a guard or tackle. Scherff, who has played both in college (he also played quarterback in high school, along with baseball, basketball, tennis and won the state shot-put title for good measure), says he’s up for any spot on the line — center included.

And he has the grit to play hurt, if need be, rebounding from arthroscopic surgery knee surgery on a Tuesday early in his senior season to practice the next day and play that Saturday — paring what had been a two- to three-week recovery to four days.

I think they'll have to take a hard look at him. Some of his intangibles might outweigh that CW of not drafting a guard at #5.

I'd love to get a great defensive player but Scherff can play guard and tackle - to say 'he's just a guard' is not doing him justice - this kid looks like he's going to be a great offensive lineman and he would start here on the right side - that was a horror show for us recently

I know we're going to have a lot of opportunities to find good offensive linemen over the next couple of years - why not add a great one

I don't think we can lose at the 5 spot and I hope we trade out of it, but, at the same time, taking Scherff is a good thing too

there's always a chance ... the problem is we don't need a QB right now - don't get me wrong, every franchise needs a future great QB but what we need to start doing is to rebuild the O line, rebuild the secondary, rebuild the defensive line ... etc. etc. ...

we need to have a plan and get to work on making it happen - along the way we'll find a way to have a QB as well ...

these guys don't just become great QBs - they are very well prepared and coached - case in point Luck, Griffin and Wilson

We would definitely need him to play the right side (video has him on the rt), but it is important to note he played Left Tackle at Miami. Every player should be granted an adjustment period to gain the strength/quickness to the opposite side. I wouldnt draft him over Scherff and not at the 5th spot but if we trade down he immediately become a prospect in my eyes. He was very solid at LT against good competition at Miami.

I'd be willing to take a QB from Oregon later in the draft. How about Sean Mannion from Oregon State in the fifth or sixth round? 6'6" 230 lbs. Runs a pro style offense.

Landon Collins, safety from Alabama. It caught my eye from a website where he is a Redskins fan. Reasons he was a fan was bc Portis and Taylor. He tries to resemble his game on Taylor as he watches film on him before every game.

So if we end up drafting at #5, I'd rather take Danny Shelton or the top pass rusher there before I'd take Collins. Maybe you can still get someone like Cody Prewitt or Anthony Harris in the second or third round.

Deon Grant from Ohio St is 5'10" and 200#....played cb but built more like a safety and ran a 4.44. With the S position thin this year, I wonder if some CBs will be drafted and converted?

I'd like to have him but I think there are other needs that need to be addressed. If the team trades the 5th pick for two first round picks and Collins is available later in the round I think that would be a good pick. I think the more telling answer is what free agents are signed. So its hard to really think who will be picked or not right now.

Agree. At the 5 spot, a safety needs to be the total package -- Sean Taylor. Collins is not that. He's a solid first round pick -- in the teen's or twenties -- but not worthy of top 5.
