POLL: Who would you like the team to PICK at #5

Post by tribeofjudah »

Now, this may not be the actually #5 if we trade back. So the question becomes: WHO will be our TOP PICK for this upcoming draft?

We are not experts but give it your best shot. And be realistic (LOL)

If your guy is NOT listed here............then make your case...!!!

I don't think we will, but I'm still liking Scherff.

Trea Waynes....CB/Mich St....ran a 4.3 in the 40...6ft and long...press or off corner

Passing league and Chip wings it around...Giants have real good wrs as does Dallas in 3 wr sets. Could cut Hall to reduce cap but would be a jerk move after he agreed to redo it. Possibly move Hall (if kept) or Breeland to safety.

Plan B would be NT Danny Shelton from Washington

.....or Beasley

This year will be difficult to find any sort of consensus from the masses. We have SO many holes. Each persons personal preference will be based on which NCAA player they believe to be the best and which position they would like to see filled. We could honestly draft someone at any position other than WR, RB, and it would make sense from an upgrade standpoint. The biggest needs obviously are OT, CB, DB, DE/T.

Scot will have a ton of options due to the teams lack of talent. Ultimately, Scot will have to be smart in picking players using his "best player available" philosophy in that he'll need to draft players at the more sought after positions early on --- and I say this because since we have so many holes, the BPA approach can be used in these types of circumstances very effectively, since we only have a couple positions where we don't necessarily need upgrades.

In our case, I wouldn't put a RB, OG, C, TE, MLB, FB, etc. as players to draft at #5 merely because quality players at those positions will be available later on. IMHO, BPA has as much to do with how much better an individual player is versus the others available at his position. For example, if you grade an OG at 90 and he is the highest grade at your draft position, but the next 5 OGs are graded at 89, 87, 86, 86, and 84.... and meanwhile you have an OT graded at 89 and the next OT is a 77 -- taking an OG at #5 is not a good move because you get someone that is an 88 at 38 or lower; while the next OT is a significant downgrade, as well as the fact that OT is a more impactful position. Scot needs to make sure that the guys we get at 5 and 38 will be significantly better than the players that are available in rounds 4-7 as well as being ones that will add the most value.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

Mark's points are well taken... In that line of thinking, BPA on our board, weighed accordingly. Too many holes to quibble.

With that thinking though would make Collins the pick as they say the drop off is HUGE after him.....Outside the box ....draft Trea Williams, convert Breeland to FS as he has good instincts and ball hawks then draft Deon Grant from Ohio St and convert him to SS. Secondary is fixed. Grab either Free or FRanklin to play RT.....OLB in 3rd round

I would interested in trading down to potentially get more picks. But if I had to chose 1 player I would say I agree with RG3peat get the best CB in the draft Waynes who came into the combine rated #1 and just ran a 4.31. He plays NFL press man coverage now so the Skins could upgrade the defense immediately. So if they can't a sweet trade for the #5 pick I'd go for Waynes with it, the Skin's cb's look poor to me replace one.

They are good points, and I know what Mark is saying. Now quit being wishy washy and tell us - all things being equal - which player/position would you most like to see drafted at #5! :)

I chose Scherff, because he's reportedly a high character guy. He's reportedly the best guard in the draft, possibly one of the top RTs in the draft and can play LT too I think. I also think our offense is closer being "good" than our defense, so I'm just going all in, taking care of our QB and hopefully we can score 42 points every game. hah.

Drafting a CB right now seems like a luxury pick to me. Like drafting a WR. I don't care how good the top rookie CB is, we all know we're not getting pressure on the QB and those guys in the secondary aren't going to be able to cover Dez forever. I feel the same way about safety. There's just no way I'm passing up Dante Fowler or Vic Beasley to draft those positions.

I a CB because our DBs seem to get beat a lot but you'd have to measure the pressure our guys are putting on the QB and get a sense if the rush is adequate but the DBs don't hold up before you pulled the trigger. Also like Mark mentioned we have multiple positions of need so the depth of quality candidates at each position must also be assessed before pulling the trigger. I'm glad we have new guy making those evaluations and hopefully decisions. I hope Snyder won't be Snyder and do something stupid.

I'm hoping we nab Danny Shelton and solve our problem at NT for ten years. I'd be delighted if we were able to swap spots with the Jets to do so.

Scherff lost any chance of my support as a first rounder by getting all he could handle from a sophomore (?) D-End from Tennessee in their bowl game this year. I watched specifically to see what Scherff could do and was very underwhelmed. If he's there in the 2nd and we take him to play Guard, I'd be fine with the pick but would rather have a RT at the point. I know Mayock still likes Scherff, but I can't get that bowl game out of my mind.

After reading this article I'm doubling down on Waynes at CB. Address the DL through FA or other spots in the draft get a stud CB if he is available at #5.

As I said before, I would love to be able to trade down and get Shelton anyway but would not have a problem with picking him up at five regardless.

I guess I'd say he's at the top of my board but what the hell do I know? I want to see Scot's freaking board. Shelton certainly fits the description of a "big man."

I'm thinking he's a cross of Vince Wilfork and Reggie White. If so, would he not be worth the fifth pick?

While I think we need a dominant D lineman more, I admit I could live with this. Otoh I also know that if you take one second away from the time the QB has in the pocket, you can accomplish the same thing.

The NFL Combine really showed off some talent. As stated by many already, some players may be a "reach" at #5 (Landon Collins, etc.) But boy can that guy run fast and cover space.

Obviously we are just spit balling here whereas Scot will check the stop watch on how much time our DL typically allows opponents to throw and has a much better idea than us where the opportunity for real leverage is whether at the DL or CB. To my eyes watching the games it seems like our CBs are over matched but cutting the time they need to cover by fractions of a second could allow them to try to stay closer.

haha. I knew you had an opinion.

Williams looks like an absolute beast. If he is there at #5, I'm not sure I'd still want the team to trade down.

I picked Williams - there's no way he's there at 5 ...

Shelton or Scherff would also be great picks for us at 5 ...

hopefully we can trade out of here but there's no way we 'miss' on this pick if Scott and Jay are making the decision

OK - I'll say this - If we cannot trade out of 5 and the guy Scott & Jay picks is not starting for this team and playing really well - Scott will not be here next draft - when you have the talent available at 5 in this draft and you have the holes we have, you cannot miss ...

plus, with the future building we need to do we cannot have a guy in charge of the draft miss out on this pick - no way

sure, anyone can miss on a draft pick but Scott will not keep his job if he misses on this pick - barring injury of course

now if Danny is 'helping' out with the draft - he almost certainly will "miss on this pick" ...

I have no idea who Scott is, but if Scot picks a guy at #5 and he doesn't play really well that first year, there is NO WAY Scot would be fired. NO WAY!

I think if Williams is there at #5 you have to take him otherwise I hope they consider trading down at the #5 pick and later on in the first round taking OL/DL and Collins if they can get 2 first round picks.
