When Griffin reaches the top of his drop, his protection is perfect and he has all five receivers open. The Bucs defense gets it horribly wrong. The corners play far too shallow to the flat and the safeties are playing far too deep. Griffin shouldn’t even have to think about this play; he should instinctively know to throw one of the corner routes.

He is not comfortable as a pocket passer. I will be thrilled to see the Redskins improve the offensive line, but let's not kid ourselves that this is the key to fixing RGIII.

The Tampa game was easily RGIII's worst as a Redskin. Admittedly, Trent Williams was out, but he was never comfortable the entire game. And as Gruden pointed out, he was taking the wrong number of steps on his drops. That was the game that got him benched for Colt. His issues are really magnified in that game, but thankfully, he doesn't always play that poorly. But I have to disagree that this is not the key to fixing RGIII, soley because his issues stem from his being scared he's about to get hit all the time. If he had more confidence in the line, I think it would go a long way to helping him improve in his areas of deficiency.

2014 Percentage of Time Sacked when Attempting to Pass
Cousins 3.8%
Griffin 13.4%

"Cousins was also part of a small group of quarterbacks who attempted at least 200 passes this season but had a sack percentage that was at least 20 percent above league average: Nick Foles, Peyton Manning, Joe Flacco, Tom Brady, Derek Carr and Carlson Palmer."

I'm sorry man but that is "good enough" protection from the offensive line. I'll eagerly await your reply describing how it was the offensive line's fault that Kirk threw nine interceptions. :)

Anyway, Kilmer, we're in complete agreement that the line can be improved. I'll be happy as hell if Scherff is the #5 pick, and I love that the team is moving towards bigger linemen. Bring it on.

Lol dude. I don't want to argue. I give up. You are right. The Oline is good enough for Cousins and what ever his stats says I will back you up on it. It really doesn't matter. What does matter is I am moving to Key West and I have to pour my energy there and not on what I,Ct,SJ,Deadskins and several others say. I will just say that it was never my intention to put Robert on a pedestal with no blame to him. I only wanted to mention what I thought was common knowledge amongst most and those that think the Oline is adequate. Well I guess we will see once again. I get tired of seeing the same ole same ole every year. I really hope all these QBs are gone because I do not believe in any of them. As far as running backs well I guess they just aren't good enough either if the Oline is as you say.

I guess you are technically correct in that he doesn't "always" play that bad. His QBR that game was 13 --- which is beyond horrible. That's almost like playing for the other team bad. Then again, his QBR got even lower in the next 2 games --- into single digits. His QBR for the year was 30.8 --- which is 2nd worst in the league for eligible players behind only Bortles. So no, he doesn't always play that poorly, he can actually play even worse. Then again, RGIII's "best" game in terms of value last year was his 16-23, 220 yard, 0 TD, 1 INT effort.......

Regardless, he was still the worst non-rookie eligible QB in the entire NFL last season.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

Cousins or Griffin need to go before the start of this upcoming season. Neither of them can be comfortable with the other constantly looking over their shoulder. And the "work through the growing pains" stage has sailed on both of these guys, unfortunately.

The Cousins issue will be resolved in 2016 when he moves to another team.

i can't see Cousins being traded in 2015 because Griffin keeps getting hurt.

I understand that you 'normally' don't take a guard at 5 - if that guard happens to be good enough in Scot and Jay's mind you take him

When I say they don't take a guard at 5, I wasn't being hyperbolic. I just looked back at the last 20 drafts, and there were only 3 guards drafted in 20 years in the top 10. The earliest a guard has been drafted in the past 20 years was at 7, and that was in 2013 with Jonathan Cooper. There were 5 full drafts where a guard wasn't even taken in the first round...

Tackles, yes. As important as line play is, guard is just not as important a position in the NFL. There are a ton of needs that are higher priority. Get an awesome passrusher. They're much harder to find.

sorry man - I could care less what the past draft's show - all that's important here is that we rebuild this team over the next few drafts

I posted this in another thread ...

I'd love to get a great defensive player but Scherff can play guard and tackle - to say 'he's just a guard' is not doing him justice - this kid looks like he's going to be a great offensive lineman and he would start here on the right side - that was a horror show for us recently

I know we're going to have a lot of opportunities to find good offensive linemen over the next couple of years - why not add a great one

I don't think we can lose at the 5 spot and I hope we trade out of it, but, at the same time, taking Scherff is a good thing too

RG3 is not the starting QB here on opening day unless he clearly shows that he's the better QB ...
if that's not the case, who we take at 5 means absolutely nothing ...
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

If this is a GM/Coach decission, I hope RG3 proves this is a good decision BUT if this is an edic from Snyder, I hope they never win another game until he sells the team. I have been a Redskin fan for over 50 yrs but I am sick of how the owner has trashed this franchise.

It doesn't matter. What's really going to change if we trade Cousins and McCoy is the #2? The starter is always going to be looking over his shoulder unless and until he starts winning more games than he's losing.

Absolutely... No matter whom starts, we currently have 3 QB's with shaken confidence... I don't care what their public faces, you cannot have their experiences, failures, injuries, whatever, without doubts creeping in... The only cure is winning... Until then backwards glances are the rule of the day for the starter.
