Re: Defensive Coach
Why did all the news outlets report Barry was the guy? Did Jay release something to figure out who the dumba** is that releases information to the press before the Skins release it??
Is it one of the holdover coaches telling Kyle or Mike? Forester maybe?
Is it Allen?
Is it Danny?
Is it a person in the office?
A wife?
When I was in charge of a large office with lots of people, I preached the proper release of information. It drove me crazy when it got out before it was vetted properly. This team has really stunk at properly releasing information. "An unnamed source says.....". Makes me cringe.
Back on point. I'd much prefer Vic Fangio as he's done the job for awhile. A little worried Barry would have a learning curve. Gruden needs experienced coaches, not newbies.

Yes, but apparently he's in line to take over the DC job with the niners
Ah too bad. I thought I had read today that the new coach wasn't keeping much of the current staff.
Fangio, Donatell and Jim Leavitt have all been fired from the 49ers.Jim Tomsula's coaching staff won't include the other top defensive assistants he worked with since 2011: defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, secondary coach Ed Donatell and linebackers coach Jim Leavitt, according to a source.

Man, I don't know what the 49ers are doing. Seems crazy to me!
Not always easy to be in charge of people that were your peers or boss.... getting rid of them was likely easier to deal with

How does that work btw? Does a defensive coordinator usually get to pick the coaches on defense? Or is it the head coach putting all of these guys together?

Oh no doubt. I don't blame Fangio for wanting out or Tomsula either. Just the whole thing with the 49ers I don't understand. I get that Harbaugh is probably kind of a d*** but he got that team winning. Then promoting Tomsula over Fangio? It seems like they could have just promoted Fangio to HC and basically kept all of their defensive coaches together instead of completely blowing up the staff who put together a pretty good unit.
Just seems like a huge gamble, and I'll be really surprised if it works out. I'm thinking about the Chargers firing Marty who was a pain to work with and replacing him with the well liked, easy going Norv.

I think it depends really. I'm sure Gruden is totally in charge of his offensive staff, but I would imagine the DC would want some of "his guys" watching his back. Maybe not though. Im not sure Haz brought any of his guys here, although we saw how that turned out.

There it is. RT @MarkMaske: Vic Fangio will interview for Redskins' defensive coordinator job, possibly Saturday, according to NFL source.

Varies per team. Here, Gruden has final say on it, but i would imagine he will have Vic or whoever our DC is be a big part of interviews and decisions.
Re: Defensive Coach
I do not know how it works but I imagine, in this case, if Jay really wants Vic to come work here he probably wants him to be happy with who he's working with ... conversely, if Vic wants to come here, he may base his decision on whether he wants to work with some of the guys here who are already under contract
like I said - I do not know ... just hoping we can get a good coaching staff together here

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Re: Defensive Coach
Fangio's results as a DC vary widely but with the talent assembled by Scot Mccloughan his defenses ranked 4, 3, and 5 in yards allowed and 2, 2, and 3 in points allowed. It's a match made in heaven.

He's visiting the Bears first for an interview. Let's hope they don't beat us to him.

Just saw that too. If he walks in our door at all, and Gruden tells Danny he wants him... then he will be ours. Money talks

Re: Defensive Coach
Well he left without a deal being made. Dont like that. Danny is supposed to be doing the one thing hes good at, writing a check

Fangio left Redskins Park without a deal. Maybe he's still chewing on it.

Could be. If that is the case, I have to say I'd be impressed with him. So many guys come here and let the Danny's money blow them away. You really should take a hard look at this team (and this owner in particular), the years of dysfunction, the complete wreck of a defense and consider if you're up for the challenge and is the extra $1.5m worth it? hah.
If Fangio is the guy they're hiring, I'm sure Danny wouldn't announce it on championship Sunday either. Gotta milk that hire for all of the positive PR possible.

Re: Defensive Coach
I still wonder why the 49ers bypassed Vic Fangio for their defensive line coach. Maybe he does not give good interviews or it could be Trent Baalke wants a yes man.
Either way my top canidates are:
1. Wade Phillips - Proven to get more out of less. Been good as a coordinator everywhere he's been. 3-4!
2. Vic Fangio - Had talent in SanFran but he never disappointed or underachieved. 3-4!
3. Dick Lebeau - If the top 2 fails I wouldn't mind putting him in position for 2 years and then having someone learn under him during that time to possibly succeed him. He is the best at the 3-4. Or at least bring LeBeau in to help a young guy like a consultant role (only way I would hire Joe Barry)

Re: Defensive Coach
I think Tomsula had served as the interim head coach for the 49ers at some point. It wasn't like he completely leapfrogged Fangio in that respect. Supposedly really well liked by the team and players, so maybe they just went with the guy they really wanted to work with. I bet Harbaugh was kind of a pain, sort of can't blame them for wanting somebody "likeable".
Your comment about Fangio being really good when he had the talent is something everyone should take note of. I think you're right about that. Doesn't mean we shouldn't hire him, but we have to give him some players on the defense if we expect him or most anybody else to do any better than Haz did.
