Cardale Jones.........anyone?

Post by tribeofjudah »

He could be some BIG bang for the buck...!!! I watched that game on Monday night. Big, strong, hard to sack. He outplayed Marcus of the Ducks.

Anyone think about this as one of our targets?

In just three starts, Jones became a household name for the vast section of America that watches college football. The circumstances were beyond unique; Ohio State lost starting QB and Heisman candidate Braxton Miller for the season in August, and many assumed the Buckeyes chances were done. Freshman J.T. Barrett took over for Miller, and despite a rocky start, Barrett surged late leading the Buckeyes to the Big Ten title game. Then Barrett got hurt, and again, folks assumed the Buckeyes were done. To borrow a phrase from Lee Corso, not so fast. Jones came in and started the Big Ten title game against Wisconsin, which Ohio State won 59-0. From there, Jones started and won against Alabama in the college football playoff and dominated against Oregon in the title game.

I wouldn't do it, personally. At least in the first 3, maybe 4, rounds. Jones appears to be a very good prospect, but you need more than 3 games to pass judgement. It also doesn't help that LITERALLY every QB on OSU had as much or more statistical success vs. Jones in 2013 and 2014.

In seeing the past 3 games, I think RB Elliot was as much a factor in Jones and Barrett's success this year than the actual QBs themselves. In particular, Jones'. Elloit AVERAGED 231 yards PER GAME and 9.1 yards PER CARRY the past 3 games when Jones was the QB. When you have a rushing attack like that, it makes the passing game that much easier. And his numbers weren't blow you out of the water good; his QBR was actually much lower than Barretts.

Also, if he declares after only playing 3 games it shows that he really hasn't matured the way coaches are saying he has.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

LOL, yeah he only has 3 college starts. But I read that he's thinking about going pro.

Here's another link.

Sure why not draft yet another QB who needs to learn to read pro defenses, and spend yet another high draft pick again on QB. After all, the Skins have to teach RG3 how to be a pro quarterback, so may as well have another guy join that party.

Actually, let's just draft guys this year who need development. After all the track record of the Redskins developing young talent is stellar!

Sounds right up Synders ally lots of hype. No, it is unfair to young man allow contempt for Dan Snyder spillover onto Cardale Jones. I want the Skins to draft OL and defensive backs not another savior QB.

I would take him later in the draft with the hopes of having him sit a few years. Unfortunately the fans will see him light up one team in preseason and start the Jones should start posts and articles. Snyder will force the kid to start and we know the end of that story. So now I'm saying don't take him because he will be mismanaged.

There has to be a reason he was the #3 at the beginning of the year.

I really doubt we're drafting a QB with any of the top few picks in this draft ... time to start 'stockpiling' young players ...

if, in each draft, we can add 3-4 'players' (maybe more) the FO/scouting department will have greatly helped this franchise
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'd take him in the 4th round ONLY if the previous picks were good ones to address the struggles of the team AND they see feel comfortable with particular players in late rounds. Other than that pass...

I'm with you. It just don't make sense to bring in and ruin another young QB on a team with so many problems. I think and hope we'll do more of the rebuilding that needs to be done first. Maybe best case scenario you find out that Griffin or Cousins (or McCoy) is capable of playing with better players around him. Worst case, we have to draft a QB in another year or two to a better team than we currently have.

I heard he was the 3rd stringer because he came in out of shape weighing about 270 pounds. Remind you of anyone? A strong arm, good accuracy, and the ability to move. JR. Well, we know he won't go number one to the Raiders, or don't we.

Jones has just announced that he's going to stay in college - "I want to graduate and then I hope to get a chance to play in the NFL"

Good for him. That's the beauty of life: we can CHANGE our minds (just don't over do it or you'll be wishy washy)

Cardale Jones has announced on national TV he will return to Ohio State for his fourth start, if he can beat two other guys out.
