Hmmm. I just don't understand why everyone is so dismissive of Lebeau. The last old guy the Steelers put out to pasture was Bruce Arians.

Not saying he'd be my choice btw, but it wouldn't bother me in the least for the team to talk with him. Joe Gibbs II kind of proved to me that a good coach is a good coach at any age.

Schwartz is another name that could be in the mix if Rex doesn't want to keep him or Schwartz wants to move on??

Schwartz wants OUT now that Ryan is hired as HC. He wants nothing to do with it.

After Rex hire, Schwartz plans to leave Bills
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Bills in-limbo DC Jim Schwartz is expected to leave the team following the hiring of coach Rex Ryan.
It'd be a big loss for the Bills, though the defense will still be in great hands. Ryan runs a 3-4, while Schwartz is a proponent of the 4-3. That's not the real issue, however. Ryan is bringing over most of his Jets staff and will control the defense. Coming off a tremendous year in which his Bills defense led the league in sacks, Schwartz will be a hot candidate for clubs looking for a defensive play-caller. The Giants, among others, should be lining up.

Just read that Schwartz runs a base 4-3, not sure Gruden wants that. Ryan runs a base 3-4 so he and Schwartz weren't going to mesh.

I like the 4-3 better but I am NOT an expert in these base schemes. Also, the base is not always in there, with all the passing that goes on.

Ryan likes to blitz more from all over...the way Haslett played against the win in Dallas. Schwartz is a bit more passive -- ala Haslett.

I'd rather a more aggressive coach.

So what happened to Wade? I guess he's not what the FO wants.

I'm hearing that it's a run between Raheem and Joe Barry (don't know much about him). It is a SLOW news week...........LOL

Keim mentioned that the team may have interviewed a possible "mystery person" for the job as well. Who wants to bet it was RICHIE PETITBON??? :)

http://espn.go.com/blog/washington-reds ... is-tuesday

I've been mostly against it up until now, but I'm kind of pulling for Raheem Morris in a way. I think its probably the Scot McGloughan effect. With a decent GM making sure the defensive coordinator actually has the players he needs, maybe a younger guy like Morris has a legit chance to succeed.

I am pretty disappointed we haven't heard anything on Phillips. He is the best available. The fact he wasn't hired (which I assume would have already happened since his interview was last week) either means Gruden is an idiot or Wade passed. Who knows, Wade may have taken the interview as a courtesy since Gruden is his son's boss.

His interview was only like three or four days ago. I don't see what everyone is getting so crazy about that we haven't immediately hired Wade Phillips. What's the big rush?

Agreed, do we wanna do what we have always done and interview a guy with ties to the organization and hire him on the spot? Or do we want to interview everyone we think may do the job well and make an informed decision?

I like the sound of Wade too.... but think we should be open to exploring all options out there.

Me too, I like Wade Phillips as well. Its looking like by waiting a bit we might get the opportunity to interview Vic Fangio after all.

We couldn't have hired him when we interviewed him. We hadn't interviewed a minority candidate at that point.

If Gruden really is making the decision, I don't mind him interviewing a number of guys before hiring someone. It's called doing your due diligence. When I hired (important) people in our organization, my boss would ask me what process I used, why I picked who I did, who else I considered, etc... Honestly, I knew that was going to happen and I wanted to be able to give him a good answer. Gruden needs to make sure he gets the right guy, especially if he's actually the decision maker...his job is at stake! He needs to take as much time as he needs to be absolutely sure. Hey guys -- Our season just ended a few weeks back, BE PATIENT!!

Agreed. This may be the most important choice Gruden makes in his career with the Skins. He WILL do due dilligence... He'd be a fool to rush.

^^ me too - this is huge for Gruden and I'm sure that he's giving this decision a lot of thought ...
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

And he'd be a fool to hire somebody he thinks "sucks" or somebody he doesn't believe can get the job done.

Would love to get Fangio in here and then grab some of his assistants as well. 49ers D was stellar even after all the injuries.

Yeah didn't we interview the 49ers DB coach too? Ed Donatell?

Yes, but apparently he's in line to take over the DC job with the niners

Ah too bad. I thought I had read today that the new coach wasn't keeping much of the current staff.

Fangio, Donatell and Jim Leavitt have all been fired from the 49ers.

Jim Tomsula's coaching staff won't include the other top defensive assistants he worked with since 2011: defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, secondary coach Ed Donatell and linebackers coach Jim Leavitt, according to a source.

Man, I don't know what the 49ers are doing. Seems crazy to me!

If Raheem leaves, should we consider hiring them all as a package? At least DC and secondary coach. We currently carry two linebacker coaches and I don't know the status of their contracts.

Didn't know that. Absolutely, let's go grab their entire defensive staff and fill in with some of our guys who we want to keep like Olivadotti, Burney Morris and Baker. I'm sure the hang up would be trying to figure out how to keep those guys while Fangio tries to bring in his guys like LB coach Leavitt and secondary coach Donatell.

Apparently, Fangio's family already lives in Baltimore.

Very interesting. MT @NBCdianna: Vic Fangio's family resides in the Baltimore area and his children attend school in Maryland. #Redskins
