Garrett gets 5-year, $30M deal from Cowboys
Cowboys signed coach Jason Garrett to a five-year, $30 million contract.
The financials are courtesy of DallasCowboys.com's Nick Eatman. It's a nice chunk of change for a coach who entered 2014 with a 29-27 career record, but does not put Garrett amongst the league's highest-paid coaches. Garrett wisely didn't overplay his hand in talks. Stripped of all consequential game-day duties, Garrett excelled in a caretaker role in 2014, leading Dallas to its first playoff appearance since 2009-10. Garrett is far from an Xs and Os master, but is valued for his leadership in Dallas, and avoids stepping on owner/GM Jerry Jones' toes. Garrett is a steady hand comfortable with letting 'ol Jer soak up the spotlight.

There're maily speaking of playcalling duties...he does have other duties...like TO's, FG vs. going for it. HC's have it nice...the coodinators are the ones who have to game plan, call plays etc...

Garrett is no Lombardi but here is an interesting related tidbit concerning the Great One:
He also thoroughly researched his opponent during the week. He would then involve his staff in developing the game plan, or strategy.
With the skills honed through repetition and with the strategy set and communicated, there was little to do on the actual game day. In fact his players joked that, once the game started, he was the most useless guy on the sideline. On game day, It was up to them and they knew it.

there's no chance that this sort of preparation and game day action by the HC would win many games today .... if any

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Please! If Lombardi was coaching today, his teams would still be winners.

I do know the players were kidding around ... from all the footage I've seen, Lombardi was a huge force on the sidelines and he would still be today
can you imagine Bill Belicheat preparing a team to play and then not being involved on the sidelines against a Lombardi prepared team - even today, Lombardi's group would dominate

Garrett is Jerruh's attention whore on the sidelines,
he claps, he smiles, pats guys on the ass while
having no control...over the personal who is
supposed to respect him as head coach
Mean while
if they should win a superbowl? it will
be Jerruh getting the credit, for the
talent and assembling the coaches
Everyone else gets to eat dirt the
way Jerruh intended it to be
the end
