Hognostication Playoffs 2015 - Divisional Round

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Seattle-Carolina definitely. The AFC games could go either way. GB-DAL could all depend on the weather...if it's cold sure, but OTOH GB was 1st and DAL 5th in points this season.

Haha, yeah, something like that (though I think Baltimore could pull the upset, if Dumervil and Suggs can get to Brady).

well done 'trey - the refs really screwed the pukes, big time last week ...

I hope Morelli & that crew does not get another game this season - that was so blatantly biased it was embarrassing

I understand about the Packers and pukes scoring this season avg. but that was against a lot of bad teams - these are better defenses

plus the pukes beat Seattle after being down by 21 - the pukes would get killed if they managed to get to Seattle next week - that Seattle group that played against the pukes in that game is not even close to the team that is playing now HUGE difference

this pukes team needs officials help to win games - they are not that good at all
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Patriots beat the Ravens but the better team clearly lost this game ...

Brady was great but the NE D was absolutely terrible ..

Patriots will go nowhere if they cannot figure out how to play defense - this D was even worse than any game the Redskins played this yr

I'm digging those 66 points the patriots and ravens put up. I hope that trend continues.

No chance on what? The Denver game is not over yet but it appears I may have mailed the points on the button!

Oh ... and the better team clearly won in New England.

Nope. That field-goal just put the total at 4 over my prediction. Of course I played an under on something I thought might be a little higher.

Congrats, Monk...

The NFL has ruined the game by castrating defenses... and inflating scores.
There was once a time when no one entered the playoffs unless they had one... now, it's completely optional... and irrelevant to the outcome.

at the Patriots bar that I watched the game, the consensus at 1:46 to go was that the Ravens would win the game because the Patriots had no defense - the Ravens lost a game they should have won ...

the Patriots are a better team than the Ravens, no question ... but, they were lucky to win that game .. :)

btw - congrats and all the best next week ...

Darth and tribe, your picks are due by 12:00 Noon EST, today. After that time, you must get your picks in before the home team does, or your picks will not be accepted.

sorry about that tribe - you snooze, you lose

consolation prize for you.........I'd still open a CAN O WHUP AZZ

TAKE THAT:

SATURDAY, JANUARY 10TH

BAL (10-6) @ NE (12-4) 4:35PM ET...........NEW ENGLAND
CAR (7-8-1) @ SEA (12-4) 8:15PM ET...........HAWKS

SUNDAY, JANUARY 11TH

DAL (12-4) @ GB (12-4) 1:05PM ET..............PACKERS
IND (11-5) @ DEN (12-4) 4:40PM ET..............BRONCOS

Not sure about that can opener. You picked the same teams as jocko, but gave no points (going with zero is a bold move, don't tell Darth). After further review, the refs had no choice but award the ball, and the game, to SJ. smh

it was mentioned again that the officials are not doing these games with the guys/crews they work the regular season with

maybe it's just me but they don't seem to be doing as well ... I'd have thought that they would let the guys play a little more

having a good/great defense was key - I agree with 'trey - very different and the refs are more 'involved' than they should be

I agree to an extent. Having said that, the last few 3-and-outs forced by both the Colts and Broncos were examples of excellent defense.

BTW - since 1947, the average score per team per game has varied only slightly.

In 1947 it was 22.0.

In 2014 it was 22.5.

It has been between 20.0 and 23.4 (the high in 2013) in all but 11 of those 68 years.

1957 = 19.8

1970-71 = 19.3, 19.4

1973-74 = 19.5, 18.2

1976-78 = 19.2, 17.2, 18.3

1991-93 = 19.0, 18.7, 18.7

The "golden ages" of scoring (PPG between 22 and 23.4) occurred in the late '40s, the early 60s, and in the last 7 years.

FGs made per game have risen from 0.4 in 1947 to 1.6 in 2014 (all-time high was 1.7 in 2013). This accounts for 3.6 points per game. If not for that, scoring has actually dropped since WWII and would actually be historically low at 18.9 PPG.

What we ARE seeing is more scoring through the air and less on the ground but only to the tune of a few TDs per team per year.

I found this research to be very interesting.
