I heard several people here slice and dice Raheem. Yes, our DBs sucked badly so far. But players give him high praise, so I don't get it.
For sure, we need better productions in our secondary.
e New York Giants are the second team in the NFC East to reportedly have interest in Raheem Morris for their open defensive coordinator position. The Redskins are giving him a "long, hard look", but haven't formally interviewed him for the position yet. Players like Ryan Clark and London Fletcher have been complimentary of Morris as a coach during his time in Washington. Fletcher was lobbying for Morris to be the new Defensive Coordinator after Mike Shanahan was fired, and Ryan Clark called Morris the best DBs coach he's ever had.

Have you really? I can't really think of anybody beating up Morris. How can anybody fairly evaluate that guy given the players he's had (or hasn't had) to work with? Seriously some of those guys we've had to start in the secondary wouldn't make another NFL team.

I honestly don't have a huge opinion on Morris. He had very little talent to work with while in DC and his results were some of the worst in the league. He generally has support from his players, which is a huge deal. I personally would prefer Phillips at DC, but am a little intrigued by Morris and what he could do. The only issue I have is that it sets bad precident to promote a guy that coached the poorest performing defensive unit. I think that would send a pretty clear message that accountability is lacking and/or Gruden thinks his 2ndary player personnel is literally worthless. If I were Phillips and got the job, I would definetely try to keep Morris on staff (assuming he doesn't have someone lined up).
That being said, interviewing for and landing a DC job are two very different things. It's my understanding that Spanguolo is the clear cut frontrunner for the NYG DC job.

When I suggested that they may bump him up as DC, people FROWNED on it. But yeah, I think Wade would be much better as DC.
Gotcha. Yeah I guess I would agree that I'm not enthusiastic about that idea. We basically ran Haslett out of town for not getting the job done with this group. It just seems weird to promote Morris for not getting the job done with the same group, you know?

I expect a lot of teams will interview Morris for DC to satisfy the Rooney Rule.

According to ey, position coaches have very little say-so and pretty much just run whatever their coordinator wants. So, you can't paint this picture with a broad brush, as Morris's views may be completely contrary to Haz's...

Of course they run the plays the DCoordinator wants but Morris is responsible for "coaching" teaching system technique, fundamentals, film study, communication and getting these guys prepared on game day.
From Day 1 Morris trying to turn D.Hall into a slot corner on 3rd downs his first year was absurd. Our DB play while never great the past 5 years went into decline when Morris took over as coach. Alot of it is on the talent of course but Morris have not helped. You gotta give him credit for whatever he is teaching Breeland but if I remember correctly they tried to get him off of playing aggressive early on which was not his best strength.
Last time we were somewhat decent was the year we had Phillip Buchanan, who had his best season of his career with us (PEDs though lol).

Fair enough, but you don't become a winning coach without winning players either.

I don't see him ready for DC, he might be a good apprentice DC and move into that position with more experience and grooming. I'd like to get D. Halls opinion of him as DB coach before he is offered a returning position. I think he has to prove something before he can come back, he might be the right guy, but there is doubt.
I think Morris is a good coach. I am not sure how good of a DC he would be though. I would not want to see him go. I mean he did not have too much to work with as far as the DBs go. Breeland and Amerson were solid, inexperience showed and times, but safety play was nonexistent. Clark is a great leader, and can do some things well at times, but I think he is similar to the situation with London last year. Still does some good things, but just seems to have hit that age where he is a step slow now. One thing I hated to see, Which I would like to hear your guys feelings about this, sorry if there has already been a post on this, but what do you guys think about Baccari Rambo ? We cut this guy, and he goes to Buffalo and seems to do well, I remember seeing one game where he intercepted Aaron Rodgers twice. He was young and inexperienced, so I was unsure why we just cut him outright. Did he no get along with Morris and the coaching staff ? Have you guys heard?
