BleacherReport says:

6. Washington Redskins: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford

While Alabama safety Landon Collins is going to get a long look for the owners of Football Outsiders' worst pass defense, Washington is also 30th in the NFL in sack percentage. Whether it's Robert Griffin III, Colt McCoy or someone else under center, he needs better protection to thrive in Jay Gruden's downfield passing scheme.

Andrus Peat is a 6'7" monster with athleticism and agility. He could combine with Trent Williams—who has just one year season left on his current contract—to give the Redskins two dominant bookends on the O-line.

Walter Football:

Washington Redskins: Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
The Redskins are passing on Shane Ray for a slightly inferior prospect, but they're set at outside linebacker. Also, they haven't been able to protect very well. It's highly disconcerting that third-round rookie Morgan Moses hasn't been able to find his way into the starting lineup despite the team's issues at right tackle. Moses finally started at San Francisco, and he was abysmal.

There's talk that Andrus Peat will return to school, whereas Ronnie Stanley, who has been incredible this year, asked the draft advisory committee for his projected grade. Check out my 2015 NFL Draft Underclassmen Tracker, where I have grades and rumors posted.

all of this stuff is predicated around having a FO that is adding players according to the plan for the future ...

given that we do not have a plan or a FO that does anything more than just add players according to what they think might be a good addition here - as it stands now, we do not have a prayer of making this franchise into anything more than just a conglomeration of good players that we hope will become good players in the future but most likely will not

we have been trying this system for years now - we saw today what that results in on the field at the end of another miserable season
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

5. Washington: Leonard Williams, DE/DT, Southern California
The Redskins have much greater needs than a defensive lineman: an outside linebacker if they stick with the 3-4, a safety and an offensive lineman come to mind. But Williams, arguably the draft’s best and safest player, is far too good to pass up with the fifth pick.

What draft website thinks Leonard Williams will get past the Jags and Raiders? I'd love that pick if it were to happen, though.

Sorry about that! I meant to include a link to their mock draft:

http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/ ... ns-raiders

To your point, they do have both the Jags and Oakland looking at Williams too.

The one thing I've heard about S Landon Collins is that its not Allen's MO to pick a safety that high. That may be true, but there might be other factors at play this time around. Not getting a quality safety last year was a huge black eye, for one thing. Who the DC is, and whether or not Allen is actually in that GM role or not is still up in the air too.

Yeah I'm not big on drafting safeties with high picks, especially where there are some limitations with the selection. We have guys that know how to play in the box, we need safeties that know how to cover and have speed.

There are many players available that we could bring in that would most likely be good NFL players for many years

hopefully we bring in a GM with full authority to hire and fire everyone under him & who puts together a plan for the future
the FO and HC would then put together a staff who fit into what the GM and HC want to achieve here

the thing is we cannot continue the way we have and we need someone in charge to both help Jay do a better job but also to hold Jay accountable for the job he's doing and for the players and assistant coaches under him

Jay Gruden was brought here to help make the product on the field better - he has not done that and while the personnel he inherited are not suited to what he wants, the HC's job is to get more out of his players and he and his assistants have not done that

I like the idea of trading down but anyone we get with the 5 pick has got to be a good player here for many years and with so many critical areas of need, it's not going to be too difficult to find a starting caliber player
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

Or we need somebody here with the patience and expertise to rebuild this team properly.

"Holding people accountable" is just fanspeak for firing coaches. We've had eight coaches in the past 14 years. Ridiculous. Giants? Two. Eagles? Two. And its always because fans and media guys are out here shouting at Snyder that so and so needs to be fired because our team sucks. And we always seem to be the same rickety mess. Mainly because the team refuses to do what needs to be done: bite the bullet and rebuild the roster.

I'm no Haslett fan, but did you see the guys brought off the street to play defense for us yesterday??? Its ridiculous to write the coaches job is "get more out of his players and he and his assistants have not done that". That's demonstrably bull****.

Fix the roster. I'll be happy to bitch about coaching decisions along with you then. People complaining that the guys on the sideline haven't been able to will their mediocre roster to greatness have clearly never coached a sport at any level.

Alright, so lets roll with that thought for a minute.

Who would we trade for picks and for what reasonable round? Or are we trading down only?
Any chance of us getting the mystical compensatory picks this year?

None. By signing Hatch & DJax we signed more value then we lost.

I don't want Landon Collins. I just don't think he's THAT kind of Safety and our D-Line needs more beef. Both of our lines need more beef, obviously. I'm hoping Amari Cooper is available at our spot and that some other team loves him and wants to trade up. That is, if Leonard Williams is gone.

I'm no fan of Brandon Scherff. Not a great RT prospect due to arm length. Too high to draft a Guard. There are no John Hannah's or Russ Grimm's in this draft.

Ideally, we're able to slide back and pick up Stanley (RT-- Notre Dame) or Flowers (RT -- Miami). Then target the Guard position in round two.

We also need a Tight End. Jordan Reed is not the answer. He's a liability in the run game.

Yes, I know we need a corner, but I'd focus on one side of the ball in this draft. Hopefully if the offense can control the ball more, our defense won't be as likely to be exposed next season.

Why is dullass' Oline pretty good? They have 3 or 4 first round draft pick on their Oline.

If Randy Gregory or Leonard Williams slip to us, we may just have to wait til round 2 for a lineman. Or trading back is an option.

sorry mate - having first round draft picks is one thing ... having Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen be involved with picking who is going to play here and who the coaches are that are going to manage those players is a complete cluster f*ck

we do not have prayer of putting together a decent O line with these 2 in charge - ZERO

do you really think that Jay Gruden wants to have a QB competition here this coming Spring/Summer with RG3?
If RG3 is still on this roster next August it will have nothing to do with his 'progress' and everything to do with Dan Snyder ...

what a mess we're in and there are still some fans here thinking we can find a way out of this with Dumb and Dumber II

^ idk what makes you think there wont be a qb comp w Rg3 in the mix. Hes under cntract, and if he isnt the best of the three has flashes that he can be. He may not evolve into the qb he needs to be and lose, but to think he hasn't got a shot is a little puzzling to me; regardless of who is the current "best fit".

Yeah. Can't afford to miss on #5 and whomever you pick it needs to be a real immediate impact guy. Those two seem to fit the bill. I was kind of blown away by Williams watching him play the other day.

Safety at #5 is tough. I'd also kind of think you would still have the opportunity to get a quality guy in the second round picking at that spot?

I do think that there will most certainly be a QB competition here this Spring/Summer

and

I think that despite what some fans here think, Griffin, McCoy and Cousins will all be a part of that process

IMO, this franchise and all 3 QBs will be better off for having a QB competition

but ...

it does not matter, because Dan and Bruce are making the decisions on who plays here and that stinks ...

If there is a true open competition among the three quarterbacks Griffin doesn't have a chance in hell at winning it. McCoy and Cousins both have their obvious deficiencies, but they at least understand the basics of playing the qb position. That Griffin, as a pro player, is still having trouble making proper drop backs (i.e., 3 versus 5 step) shows just how far he is away from being ready to beat anybody out, let alone win a competition.

I agree, and its sort of concerning. I think Cousins would likely win an open competition. He's a smart dude, good leader, etc; I'm just not sure how much I trust him not to lose his **** and start giving the ball away once the regular season starts for real.

Sean Taylor #21 was our pick at Round 1, Pick #5

Could Landon Collins be our Round 1, Pick #5 for 2015...? I think the Oline and Dline are the greater need though.

Collins is no Taylor. He is a beast in the box, and will remind of Taylor there.. But Taylor was also dominant in coverage, as well... Collins has not shown strong skills in coverage. He is a risk that we probably should not take. If we draft from our current position, it MUST be a home run.

Watching the Oregon and fsu game. I think both qbs are overrated and dont deserve a top 2 pick. If Winston fell to the Redskins, I really hope he is passed. With marioto definitely not slipping.

Alabama's safety Collins is doing nothing special in the game tonight vs OSU.

Let's just say, any comparison to Sean is ridiculous. They both play(ed) safety -- thats about it!!

Once again - draft a lineman or pass rusher.
