Post Game analysis Skins v. Eagles

Post by tribeofjudah »

I didn't see or listen to the game. We went up to the snow (So Cal) and I was pleasantly surprised to see the final was Skins 27; Eagles 24...!!!

I saw some REALLY nice throws from Bob and GREAT catches from Djax (highlights online)

I think Bob had a good game.....what say you? It was a nail biter at the end. I think it will be a NFL network repeat/replay this week.

Rg3 played damn good considering TW went down Liche went down.. TW played w one arm... and our play calling on first down was the overly predictable sweep.
Gruden finally used D Young near the goal line- result? Two tds.
D is still having HORRIBLE plays called on 3rd down- letting 3rd and fifteen get converted on a screen and such. Corners play to far off the wrs in the red zone, still. Breeland is still a bright spot in the secondary. Hall (assuming he gets back to his former self) Breeland and Amerson should be a good corner group.
Kerrigan w a sack fumble. Guy is just awesomenes

Kai won it where the fecals kicker shanked two... umm the oline is still porous but RG did a good job getting it out.. still needs to throw wrs open and get it out faster but didnt get sacked 10x so thats good. And improvment has to be acknowledged in all areas. he threw one away! Lol While the int wasnt a great throw I dont hate the decision. A little more air and who knows.. pump faking the safety to the other side of the field woulda been nice- at least thats what I woulda done in Madden

Djacs hands are under rated due to his speed.. a few drops hurt the bottom line for rg and of course scoring w the run on all tds.. but we def put points up due to his improved play.
Did I miss anything??

—After the Redskins picked up linebacker Trevardo Williams from the Chiefs practice squad, Gruden referred to him on the podium as “the guy from Kansas City”. He knows his name now after he got a second-quarter sack of Mark Sanchez after Trent Murphy went out with a broken hand. Rookie Jackson Jeffcoat also took some snaps in Murphy’s spot and he also got his first NFL sack.

Ok, so Murphy has a broken hand? Not good but he can heal in the off season.

out here in California for the holidays ... got to watch the game and very pleased for our guys .. it sure is good to beat the eagles and put them in V real danger of being eliminated

Griffin may still be the #2 QB here (behind Cousins) but he's showing that he's going to be very much in the mix next Spring

gotta love that Xmas present ...

Robert seemingly took a step forward last night. He looked like he knew what he was doing. His play exposed the weakness of the line, but he was still able to make plays. Dare I say he even looked fast when he ran? He still looked like an awkward duck when sliding, but at least he is not being stupid about it. Whatever clicked for him last night, well, I hope it continues to click against Dallas.

Many, many thanks to:

The Eagles FG kicker for missing 2 fgs

CB Breeland for hardnose play and the pick
Kerrigan for being a stud
Djax for being fast and awesome adjustment to the ball
D Young and Alf for a great running game and the TDs
BobG3 for solid play and standing in the pocket without looking "scared"

Many other thanks........too many to mention

Glad I watched the entire game last night. Honestly, there was still plenty of "bad" in the game. I was particularly frustrated by the defense unable to get off the field in like third and 25 and third and 15 situations. Ridiculous. I put that squarely on Haslett. Heard somebody call in to the radio last night and say Kerrigan was getting after Haslett, seemingly unhappy with the playcalling in those situations.

Griffin was OK. 16 of 23 for 220 yards no TDs and an INT. The best thing he did in the game was draw three roughing the passer calls! lol. I was really glad to see him get a win though. Its been a brutal season for that kid. He was really good in the post game too, completely deflecting any questions about himself and crediting the team for the win. Good stuff.

Trent Williams was a beast. And credit to Lichtensteiger too. Both of those guys muscled through injuries to stay in the game.

Oh and did anybody see Phillip Thomas last night? He put a huuuuuge lick on Sproles. IMO he's played better with every game. We may have at least one part of what we need at safety right there.

All that said, I wish I could personally thank the team for that game last night. I don't know about you guys, but as a fan I really needed to see them play like that and get a win. I know it hurt our draft position next spring, and I could care less. I personally hate the Eagles more than the Cowboys. Loved seeing them get theirs. And knowing that DJax is going to play his *** off twice a year when he faces the Eagles makes me very happy.

It seems there are always problems regarding the Redskins play. But it was progress, still got a way to go and a WIN is sweeter and blinds the deficits. I hate the Eagles more than the Cowboys too, I hope Dallas beats Indy today.

And I could care less that the Redskins will pick a few back now. I'm just happy to have a first rounder!

I'd rather finish 4-12 or 5-11 and leave on a good note.

I think this last game the coach finally did what he said he would. Remember when he said he wouldn't ask his players to do something they are not comfortable doing? He would tailor to his talent? IMO I believe he finally figured out how to use Robert more efficiently.

I wont say he didn't do the same for Cousins or Colt but for Robert it appeared to me that he was fitting a square peg in a round hole.

Running AL no matter what helps. I would have liked to seen a few more from AL. If he gets a 100 + there is a good chance we win.

Against a really good Dline Morris has struggled this year. This all points to the major problem.

I agree to a degree... id like to see some creativity on first and third down. I think we are terribly predictable, and likewise on Defense the third down calls are more often then not- the wrong call

As fsr as tailoring to rg.. I dont think we really saw that. I think Robert ran the same O as kirk and Colt but was more effective in getting the ball out. Not a ton of read option and/or bootlegs right? I think he did a good job getting the ball out, not taking sacks, and even threw a few away. I think the refs finally calling the late and/or blatantly malicious hits on him was also a bright spot. Generally teams are allowed to suplex him and pile drive him into the dirt after he gets the ball out, and is nice to see the zebras get it right fo once

Agreed on all accounts. I wonder what the odds are that Haslett is gone after this season. I think we'd be better off without him or Orakpo onboard next year.

All that said, I wish I could personally thank the team for that game last night. I don't know about you guys, but as a fan I really needed to see them play like that and get a win. I don't think things could have gone much better with DJax. For an alleged locker room cancer, the guy has kept his discipline and put it all on the line every Sunday. He's been the biggest playmaker on the Skins since . . . well, aside from RGIII in 2012, I can't think of someone who's had a comparable impact for us on offense. Not even Clinton Portis at his best, and if you go much beyond that, I think you get all the way into the '90s. And when you consider that he's taking up less cap space on our team this year than his is on the Eagles (LOL) — who were so obviously lacking good WR threats against us — it was really sweet that we stole him from them this offseason.

It was really important from an organizational and psychological standpoint to give it our all against Philly. Screw picking one slot higher in the draft: just last week people were discussing how this is the lowest they have ever felt as a Skins fan. The people who are really in despair might still be there, but I was very happy to see that our team still gives a crap. That kind of heart and willingness to strive for excellence means a lot more for our chances next year than picking 4th versus 6th (or whatever it ends up being).

I don't think this win will hurt us all that much in our draft position. We`ll still be in a good spot.

No matter the round, I just want us to pick up two STARTERS at oline, and focus only on defense from there.

Then snag up a few more defensive players in FA.

Well it feels so sweet that Redskins OFFICIALLY kicked the Eagles out of the playoffs! Dallas is beating Indy BAD!

And thats good about cap space with D-Jax and I think he's carried himself good for the most part. Obviously he is frustrated about switching qbs, less passes and losses.

I hope the Redskins win two in a row to end the season its better than having no #1 pick. It'll be at least top 10

IMO Haslett is gone but it's not really his fault that the players did not execute the game plan - in the NFL, that does not matter, and you lose your job if the defense does not work

Bill Bilicheat was basically fired from Cleveland because of how bad the defense played under him - it is obvious now that he is a good defensive coach and the players at that time were not doing what they should

it's a shame but that's the way it works - Haslett should go

I think the players needed the win more than we did, watching trent come come back out to play was like watching Joe Jacoby come out for 1 more play. That said it all for me.
It was an earned win, no doubt. Anytime we clip the iggles wings is toothsweet.
