QB. Draft, FA, or on roster now. What do you pick?

Post by Prowl33 »

If you are making this decision, what do you pick and why? Why not the other options?

I pick Free Agency. I would pick up sanchez honestly. Why? We need a veteran QB with decent skills, that can start for a few years while we groom a new rookie to be a starter. Sanchez has had success as a starter, and if we take care of our current protection and defensive issues, can make us competetive.

Why not one on our roster? RG3 will just create negative distractions, and delay any plans for us to get a permanent solution. Him doing bad will always warrant the benching question, as a backup we would always hear why not go back to robert. Mccoy? This kid cant lead and has a noodle of an arm. Cousins? Not ready to start still. I would keep him as our #2

Draft? Why ruin another qb with high expectations and a couple of seasons of us rebuilding and him learning by getting beat on.

We are not a qb away, so lets get someone with experience playing and winning. Lets draft a 1st round rookie next year and plug him in as a backup for 2 years, then unleash him when hes fresh and capable.

I respect your opinion and if they went that rout I wouldn't be livid. I think the qb position will come clear when we see if Robert plays good or great. If he sh$ts the brick. Then, I agree a veteran qb would be a good fit for the temporary (Who knows that could be McCoy) I think Cousins is okay but is only a back up he turns it over WAY to much.

Draft the best available, I'm not an expert on the draft report. But I think its important to see what you can get in free agency and draft the positions that weren't filled in free agency.

I think most fans know the problems oline, dline, defensive backs (I'm not totally against the current linebackers) but Orakapo and Kerrigan are going to be free agents. Trent Murphy seeks okay and something to build with. And with you wanting to draft a qb next season, I think it depends on how developed the team is in 2015 and the draft class for qb's.

Sanchez? I'd probably just play Cousins or even McCoy if that is the only FA option. I wouldn't really consider him much of an upgrade over those two, especially on a shaky team like this one. Cousins and McCoy would at least have the advantage of having been in Gruden's system for a year.

I love the idea of grooming a rookie behind a vet, but it just won't happen here. You know?

I want the Skins to focus on improving their offensive line and defensive backfield not spend a draft choice or make a major free agency QB move this year. If a QB better suited to Gruden's offense than Griffin than pick him up and cut Griffin, but not one of Snyder's moronic moves. Trade Griffin if there is a buyer or just cut him if not but I would prefer than try to bolster other weak units and go forward next season with McCoy or Cousins. I haven't seen McCoy play enough to know what we got and maybe they can get Cousins to throw fewer picks. The Skins aren't going to be good next year whoever is under center but they may be able to take a sustainable step forward by investing on the OL and defensive backfield.

I think it can happen. Our problem has been spend too much for a qb and not enough to support him and help him be good. Griffin is not an answer for us anymore, that ship has sailed. He will never regain respect by the coaching staff and locker room, and will always be a distraction from a media standpoint. He may ressurect his areer but it wont be here.

Mccoy doesnt strike me as someone that has what it takes to step up and lead and hold people accountable. He also will never be a big arm qb which we need with the type of receiver core we have.

Kirk may be decent, but he is no long term solution or someone to use while we groom another qb.

That leaves free agency, which is pretty lack luster right now... and even if it wasnt... we cant spend 15-20m on a good qb to go in and get slaughtered and demoralized. Sanchez would likely cost around 10 mil. Leaving 5-10 mil to spend on beefing up his protection. He is a veteran that knows that game, and would have a lot to teach a rookie coming up to take his place.

Someone on roster. We need to fix other problems (O-line) before investing big in a QB.

Nah I was talking about the grooming thing specifically. Unless we're in the middle of an 11-5 season, there is always going to be enormous pressure to play the QB on the bench. You could say that's a DC problem, but we just saw the same thing in Cleveland trotting out Manziel last weekend, clearly not ready to start. I'd be worried about getting a rookie on the roster next year with the idea that he's not going to play.

I agree with you about Robert. Unless there is a trade, I do think he'll be here in 2015 but under very different circumstances.

we have 3 QBs + many things to do before we look to far down the road at QB - I really do not think we'll draft a QB in this coming draft

we do not know what if any progress Griffin will make

the QB position here is NOT going to be determined based on the next 2 games or the next 3 months
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I would take the best safety on the board with the first pick because I think after that they are not very good, so with that said the rest of the draft would be linemen on both sides of the ball in particular O line. IMO what free agent would want to come to DC or at least a free agent that could help the team.?. The Skins need to develop from within. They get a top safety in the draft then I think the secondary will be ok for a few years to come.

Kinda related. I hope we win against Dallas and Philly end 5-11. I don't care that the draft spot won't be as high. Think of it this way whatever spot the Redskins pick will be higher than he last 2 years.

Ignore QB until the team has a respectable OL and DL.
