Defensive Coach

Post by SKINS#1 »

If Rex Ryan is fired by NYJ, would you like to see him as Defensive coach for Redskins? I am not sure but I think he would be better than Haz. I would like to see Gregg Williams come back but don't think that will happen. What are your thoughts?

I would hire Rex immediately if he is fired by the Jets. Anyone would be an upgrade from Has, but Rex would be a huge upgrade.

I'm sorry but Jim Haslett has got to go ...

Rex is a very good defensive coordinator - not sure he fits what Jay Gruden and the FO want for this franchise though

we need to add players and coaches that when added together can be a part of a good team
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

He's arrogant and a jerk, but the last couple of years seem to have humbled him slightly. (Or maybe we're just not hearing as much from him in the media.)

Can't deny that he's led great defenses. I wonder if he'd seriously consider the job, though: he might be competitive for head coaching positions still.

I don't see Rex Ryan coming to DC. There's talk that he could get offered another head coaching job, which obviously he would pick as opposed to becoming a defensive coordinator again.

I'd take Rex Ryan in a heartbeat.

I'd love it if he'd push Gruden to be a better head coach like Rob is doing in New Orleans - what a love fest those 2 are having

I'd also take Rex no question. My top 2 would be Rex and Wade Phillips. I personally think Rex will get a head coaching job.

If he didn't get a HC job, Rex would be considered a top 3 DC in the open market ---- so he'll have his pick of options at DC...... so I doubt he'd want to come to a F--ed up organization with a weaponless DEF and a FO that (1) is 100% committed to OFF, and (2) a FO that has no idea how to evaluation talent.

And Synder's ego is far to large to bring back Williams.

I respect Rexs' defensive scheme etc, I don't know if he'd be right for the job. He could easily loose respect for Gruden and begin thinking about the HC job, that can happen when the defense outplays the offense. Of course, Gruden might not be part of the equation. Maybe we could pair gruden and haz to another team, in portugal or something.
Greg probably wouldn't come back, last I knew he still has a house here.
I'd be looking for a youger guy, like the #2 guy from Seattle or Frisco, thats who I'd be looking into. Somebody with experience in a properly run organization.

I am still completely amazed that Jim Haslett managed to get a contract extension in 2012.

If rex is fired from jets, is considering a DC job, and Snyder wants him, then we will get him. Money talks, and if theres one place he should throw his money its to a good coach, and no one will beat danny in an uncapped bidding war.

I say go for him if available

I would be all for it. Like many posters have stated anything would be an improvement from Hazlett. There needs to be a pass rush which I feel is the biggest need we have besides consistant QB play. If they go into 2015 season with RG3 or Colt McCoy I will not watch, spend a penny on Redskins stuff.

^ if other pieces were in place wed be able to win games qb is an area for Gruden to improve on, but wont be a deciding factor for wins w any first round pick free agent out there.
Haz is done.. i think we have some pieces. I expected a vetter pass rush from this group- Hatcher doesnt seem capable of playing enough and the interior seems weak.

Id watch and support this team even if they brought in Tebow.. rex, mcnugget, Brennan, ferrot, Beck, etc etc that just feels like I endured MUCH worse already!!

I don't see why Gregg Williams would come back here for anything other than the HC job. He was already completely hosed by Snyder when he probably should have had a shot at HC. And he's already the DC for St. Louis with a pretty decent group of players well on their way to becoming a good defense.

it's a fair assumption that Haslett is gone - no matter who comes in, he's going to need better play from his secondary and the D line

I don't think we use the #5 pick on an offensive lineman - we could go D line or S (Landon Collins)
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

I think the right move is to go for Collins at Safety or a good pass rushing DE. Obviously if we can trade back, that would be ideal, but you need the right dance partner. I would sign Iupati and make him the # 1 priority this offseason. Plug him in for Chester, then use the rest of the picks on O and D Linemen. A few guys with a little bit of attitude wouldn't hurt. We don't seem to have any nastiness on either of our O or D lines other than maybe Trent.

Considering how many draft picks actually help a team, even those with great talent evaluators miss out on most of their picks even in the top 3 rounds, we're going to need as many picks as possible, plus I'm hoping we can add a few FAs to help out as well

it's going to take a while and we need a lot of luck

I'll take Rex Ryan for DC. Look at what he did in his first year with the Jets. The guy can run a defense.

But how well will he work with Gruden, just a 2nd year head coach? Rex is a pretty strong personality, and Gruden is still trying to find his legs as a HC. A strong and established coordinator can help a new HC along in his progress, or he can butt heads with him and create division. I'm concerned about which one of those Rex would do if he were here.

As an example, I wouldn't worry about Wade Phillips causing problems. I think he would just build a good defense and back up Gruden at every turn.

Gruden seems to be a very authoritative and in control guy. I dont think rex would get out of hand with him.

Why "no thanks" on Dick Lebeau? I know he is old.
