The Indianapolis Colts will enter the meat of their schedule without safety LaRon Landry.
The league announced Monday that Landry has been suspended without pay for the next four games of the 2014 regular season for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.
The eighth-year defender will be eligible to return to Indy's active roster on Oct. 27 following the team's Week 8 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Colts play the New York Giants in Week 9 before heading into their bye.
The 6-foot, 226-pound Landry spent time with the Redskins and Jets before starting 12 games for the Colts last season and all four in 2014.
Known as one the league's harder-hitting safeties, Landry's absence does no favors for a Colts secondary that will now lean on Sergio Brown and Colt Anderson to fill the void across from Mike Adams.
In a related move, after releasing wideout Da'Rick Rogers, the team on Monday signed safety Dewey McDonald to the 53-man active roster off the team's practice squad.
