Hurricane Charley

Post by NC43Hog »

Everyone in the path of Charley take care today/tomorrow and the days after. We in NC look like we will get some serious rain/flooding but our neighbors in Florida will be taking the full brunt of it.

Keep safe and out of harms way. These things are serious business.

The winds are up to 145 mph now. I wonder if the Saturdays game will be cancelled if the hurricane hits Washington before game time. I think the eye of the storm will be around NC around 2PM Saturday. I know football is played in the rain, but hurricanes are different, especially in the pre-season after losing a top-notch player to injury.

Hurricanes typically lose their force on land, right? I hope it's not canceled. Jackson would be so upset.

Keep safe NC! We are supposed to be heading down that way on Sunday for vacation. SC anyways. Don't know quite what to do about that.

I didn't realize it had been upgraded to a 4 with 145mph winds. This is a bad one, but hopefully it will lose losts of strength as it moves up the coast. Still will be something to deal with I have a feeling.

We don't get much flooding where I am but Fran and Floyd knocked down tons of trees so I hope the wind drops significantly.

Maybe I should get the ole chain saw started and buy a few xtra blades.

They do weaken when hitting land, but after it hits Florida, its suppose to move over water again before it hits NC. It's moving fast so it shouldn't weaken too much.

The latest projections have it moving more to the east - would be great if it got pushed out the sea. This morning the path was almost directly to Raleigh, and now it is well east of us.

These things are hard to predict, but if it comes back we are in trouble.

what a bummer of a hurricane this is...it's not really going to produce any decent surf, just a bunch of rain

They are now saying a majority of Tampa will be under water. That just sounds horrible.

I hope everyone makes it out ok. We won't get much more than rain here in Baltimore.

hurricanes are the norm here in eastern NC. we get at least one every other year it seems. no big deal. get on high ground, make sure you have a cooler stacked with a couple cases of brew, sit back and pound away. -drinking it'll be over in 8 hrs.
i just hope it dosen't knock out the power, or screw up my coverage of the game. ;furious;

that's the best thing to do.... as long as you are on high ground. flooding can be dangerous, but as long as you're away from rivers, and drainage easments you should be ok. also watch out for large trees. position yourself as far away from large trees as possible, in a solid structure. trees will blow over because of the excessive moisture in the ground. the wind isn't that big of a deal, other that the trees. like i said, grab the beer, and put it on ice.... in case the power goes out.. ;) -drinking

looks like we'll just get wet if charley is going to pass SE of us which means we are on the weaker side of the eye, maybe 40-50 mph winds because I'm close to the beach.
I feel for all those people in Tampa that fled to Daytona and Orlando because Daytona and Orlando is getting hit harder than Tampa... there's another storm forming as I type this (Dalila "I think") it's just a tropical storm of the coast of Africa right now but thats how they start

You guys keep us informed...we want to make sure you're ALL okay down there. We had Isabel hit us hard last year and we already have a tree (about 2 feet in diameter) uprooted in the back yard. Luckily it fell into the water and not the house. I'm not looking forward to what may happen this time. Jake and I will be at the game so we won't have a clue till we get home if we flood again. Oh well, can't stop it if we're here, right ?

Most of the damage was done right where Charley hit land just south of Tampa it moved pretty quick across the state and was constantly downgraded. by the time it got close to J-ville it was back to a cat 1. Lots of down trees and powerlines most of the damage was done to moblie and manufactured homes but alot of damage was done in SW florida.
complete moblie home parks were wiped out. so far about 15 deaths but hundreds are missing and a little over 2 million without power. Here in north florida it was like a real bad rain storm but down south there was 1 county that had all of their (7) firestations destroyed I think if it had come ashore where they said it would we would have been hit harder here

Love it, pretty much a non-event here as well. Feel bad for the folks in FL tho, they took a pretty good hit.

Man, nothing here but drizzle... until the end of the first quarter. Then it was just a beautiful night at the stadium.

We got slammed by Charley. Had the beer and grilled about 5 pounds worth of food so that was alright, but I missed the Carolina game. We just got power back yesterday and had 6 people stay over last night as they are still without water and power. By the time is reached us (Orlando) it was down to about 90 MPH. I feel bad for the west coast that got hit a lot harder. Many trees fell over, the house is okay. No traffic lights are working. It was pretty bad. Oh well, everyone we know is safe and that is what matters. When power was restored, I was able get on the website and find out everything that happened w/ the game Saturday night and get everyone's take on how the 'skins played. It was nice!

Glad you made it through the storm floridaskinsfan. That's one reason I don't want to live in Florida. Too many hurricanes for me to handle.
