Here's my take on yesterday's game...

1) Defense -- played a good game overall, especially in the second half. No complaints against the run at all, outstanding. Not as happy against the pass. It appeared Haslett was concerned with the run and screen passes to their RBs so much he gave up on pressuring Foles on passing downs. While we hit Foles a number of times, it was always after the ball was gone -- don't feel like we ever made him throw it before he wanted to. Haslett never sent more than 4, even on obvious passing downs. I do understand Foles has a quick release, but I believe you have to occasionally send more, and hope to cause a turnover. If this excuse is, they'll score...that doesn't cut it, they scored anyway when we gave him a lot of time.

Losing D. Hall was a real blow with Foles playing like that IMO.

I am very worried about our secondary without D. Hall. In particular when Coffield is hurt and out for a while, too. All I need now is to find out that hatcher will be gone for any time.

We definitely caught the injury bug. We have more depth this year. We will get some of these guys back. Dhall will be missed. He was our answer to most teams number ones.

I heard on the radio this morning that they're thinking about moving Minnifield off the practice squad. That's depth!

This is what I saw yesterday:
Top five team playing at home against a bottom 10 team (power rankings CBS; ESPN; FOX)
Offense moving the ball well and scoring 34 pts.
Defense playing though, banging a QB left and right all day, allowing 27 pts. and only 54 yds rushing
Special teams missed FG and allowing a punt return for a TD.
A team fighting for each other at an all out brawl.
Kirk had over 425 yds passing, with a controlled running game, Morris 77 yds rushing.
Tuff loss, but There is life!

it's a shame if people/fans are complaining about that game - I thought it went OK and we could have pulled it out despite the mistakes

we are not as good a team as the Eagles and yet we almost beat them with our back up QB who looks like he can help the offense

I am encouraged and saw nothing to make me change my mind about 8 or 9 wins

As upset as I was at the Baker play and how it went down, I had to laugh later. At least we are finally finding our personality on D. I liked the fight our defense shows.

Hmmm. If we're not as good as the Eagles then I don't think they're that much better.

Obviously they were the better team on special teams which made a difference. I also think Foles had an advantage with an entire year as the starter in that offense. He and Cousins were neck and neck all game, but there were those two or three throws Cousins missed that Foles made.

Either way we lost a three point game in their stadium and it was close the entire game. We can keep up with those clowns.

Kirk looked good but Foles outplayed him and made more plays. I feel he has improved from last year in just the variety of throws he is now making. Only problem I have ever had with him was his turnovers but he appears to be fixing that problem.

You would like for Gruden to put less pressure on him and throw less but I guess he feel he can handle it.

Special Teams continue to haunt us.

He knows better than me but I hate seeing the way we play so far back in the secondary.

Last time we had success against their receivers we played bump coverage and was physical with them. This was back in 2012 (first game) when the Eagles still had Desean Jackson. Every since that first game we have laid off. Interested to know why but whatever we are doing now it isn't working.

Same type of people happy because we scored 34 points and are satisfied I hope are not the same type of players we have on this team. We lost bottom line against an Eagles team that is very beatable. There are no moral victories in PRO football.

Griffin will be the starting QB when he's ready to play again AND he shows that his progression from the QB he was in 2012/13 has put him ahead of Cousins - he is not there yet but I believe he was showing good progress - he will not just assume the starting role, he will be made the starting QB when he's shown Sean and Jay that he's the best fit for this offense

I hope that Cousins can continue to play very well but I also think there's no way that Griffin does not become the better option at QB

I don't see how its that simple at all.

Cousins is likely going to have at least an eight game head start on Griffin in running this offense. How do you imagine RGIII is going to show his progress? How is he going to get the experience he needs in this offense? How exactly does he show he's the best fit if he's not on the field?

You have to get on the field to show you're the best fit, but you can't get on the field until you've shown you're the best fit? That's a pretty big catch-22.

Much to your point, the one time Kerrigan almost got Foles down he panicked and threw the ball right into Baker's lap. It's such a shame he couldn't pick it off, but what Dlineman is expecting that? haha!

I think "circumstances" is a good word choice there. As in, it might depend more on the circumstances than just RGIII coming back, getting fit and showing everybody he's ready to go.

That play should have been ruled intentional grounding.

that's the thing - we don't know if Cousins is going to continue to play great and we don't know how long it's going to take for Griffin to get ready to play and show that he's the better option at QB ..

Griffin has so much more to offer but he has not had the time he needs to make it clear that he's the better choice

The ones who defended Griffin's 6 points against the mighty Houston Texans are criticizing Cousins for failing to put up more than 34 against the Eagles in Philly. Philly has one of the best teams in the league and Houston had the worse record in the league last year. One poster said Griffin would've made better plays down the stretch to win the game. Really? Who is going to score the first 34 points for the hapless, clueless Griffin who failed to demonstrate any signs of comprehension let alone mastery of the Gruden offense during the preseason or in the Houston game. Judging by the reappearance of the read option gimmick in the first two series of the Jacksonville game Gruden wasn't confident Griffin could execute the big boy offense.

In my opinion the large competence gap between Cousins and Griffin will only get bigger every week as Cousins plays and Gruden opens up the play book. The Griffinites told us Cousins was only looking good against the scrubs during the preseason, they didn't understand that it was Cousins' comprehension that made him effective and starters or not he knew how to run the offense at NFL speed. After Cousins sliced up the Jacksonville starters the Griffinites said wait until he plays a real team like Philly. Now they complain Cousins only put up 427 yards, 3 TDs and 34 points on the Eagles in Philly. They'll probably have to move the goalposts again on Friday.

Cousins is able to do all of that because he understands where to go with the ball BEFORE the snap. He reads defenses very well.

RG III, whom I truly do like as a player and as a fine young man that my son looks up to, isn't where we need him to be regarding making those good, quick decisions. The reason RG III gets blitzed far more than Cousins is because those blitzes far too often rattles RG III into a mistake. Defensive Coordinators know that if you blitz Cousins he's likely to make a good, quick decision that will cost the defense dearly. If RG III were able to grasp that better, with his athletic skills he'd be unstoppable. I'm frustrated that after two years in the league it didn't look like he had grasped enough of that understanding of the position. He can do it, I'm sure, but it's going to take more work inside Redskins Park and not in front of cameras making commercials.

Well it is indeed a fact that cousins played against second and third stringers in the preseason. So he can play well against starters for large parts of a game. Great. I'll get excited when he wins more than one game as a starter and learns how to finish. Until then, he's JAG.

I'm excited about Cousins because he's played two impressive games (that count) against NFL first string players. I could STILL care less what he did in the preseason.

You know who else had a good preseason? BACARRI RAMBO. lol.
