Use the tools you have

Post by FanofallthatisGibbs »

I don't know why we don't use our roster and call a game that plays to their strengths.

Alfred Morris is a beast. He should touch the football about 30 time per game. This shortens the game to help the defense, allows RGIII to not have to "be the man" every play, and plays to the collective strength of our O-line.

I just don't get it. The Redskins will win more than they lose when Morris gets 100+ yards. Once the run is established, play action passing should be like shooting fish in a barrel with our WRs and RGIII's arm.

Am I oversimplifying? It's seems obvious/easy enough from the outside looking in.

Its an utter mystery tobme why coaches quit feeding one of the best RBs the rock when he isbkilling the opposition.
14 carries and almost 100 yards?!? What am I missing?
The desire to air it out, outweighs winning?

Even when rgiii DID get the throw off hed get pounded..

You arent over simplifying.. they simply never stopped Morris, WE did.

Im sure Gruden will be drilled in pressers... I trully hope he can adapt frombhis ego unlike the last coach and "play to our strengths".
Take a page out of the defending champions playbook.. and let our A train go Beastmode!!

Their heads are swelled a bit. Lets get fancy instead of eating time and giving the D a rest. He might still figure it out. This is a transition period.

After Week 2's game, how you think we handled everything?

I agree with you by the way so I'll give them an A+ for Week 2

After weeks 2-3, yes, a vast improvement and I am liking what I see on offense. I still think Alfred Morris is underutilized, and I would have liked to see longer, time killing drives in the 4th quarter, but the team got in a hole after Kai Forbath's miss from which it is hard to run. The use of Helu in the screen for 55 yds was genius! I felt like we should have gone back to that a couple times to get in manageable downs on the last drive that went no where. Easy to Monday Morning QB on this stuff, but yes, the team looks a lot better on offense.

Given our defensive losses in the Philly game, we may need to continue to manage the game in way that maximizes time of possession. Gruden is looking like a good coach thus far in his rookie campaign. We still need the W's in these close games, but I am encouraged for sure.

The Eagles game plan was to stop Morris. Its not just "use the tools you have", its "take what the defense is giving you". They kept Morris largely in check, so Cousins put up 450 yds in the air on them.

Our plan was obviously to not let McCoy/Sproles hurt us.

McCoy seemed to not be himself at all. You have to wonder if he was concussed.

He took a shot in the head, so wouldn't be surprising.

Either way, he didn't have a great game against the Colts so they used Sproles effectively. We didn't let either one of those guys hurt us on the ground.
