Philly Game Thoughts
I am more optimistic than I've been in a long time. The receiving corps is improved over last year even with Jackson out, the running backs are good, the OL run blocking is good and their protection is solid with Cousins in the pocket since he doesn't take long. It will be much tougher this week but I like the Skin's chances of taking a big step in the division race Sunday. It won't be easy but I expect to win. I don't know how high the ceiling is for the Skins but it might be a LOT higher than we thought going into the season. As a redshirt freshman Cousins beat Foles in head to head competition at for the backup job behind Brian Hoyer at Michigan State. Foles transferred after spring ball and did well at Arizona, before getting drafted and playing very well last season. It will be fun to watch these two go at it, I think Cousins will best Foles again. Skins 31- Eagles 27.

I think the old saying "next man up" really spoke volumes yesterday. I know it was only Jacksonville but a win is a win and the offense hardly missed a beat, the defense was solid for the most part.
Bring on the Eagles and lets see what we got!!!!

Re: Philly Game Thoughts
I'm watching the Colts Eagles game. As much, as I like Robert and know his skills. I wish we got Luck in that draft!!! One can wish lol. He is poised, good passer and can run (Got some weight on him, like Big Ben). Other than that I think Morris will be able to run on the Eagles line.

Re: Philly Game Thoughts
My thoughts:
1. Philly is the best team in the NFC East until proven otherwise.
2. Feed Alfred Morris. If their DE misses (injured in MNF this week), we should have an even stronger ability to run on their D.
3. Feed Alfred Morris. If we have success running the football, we shorten the game. Philly are the 2014 comeback kids so far, but they need the time through a pass-fest to make it happen.
4. Feed Alfred Morris (with some Helu and Redd on the side). Our O-line is still made for running, not pass protecting.
5. Keep on running the ball. The less our D is on the field, the greater our chance to win.
This will be a tough game. Philly and their high octane offense can explode at any time. We need a "bend but don't break" day. We need to get turnovers to make up for what will probably be a lot of yards given up between the 20-yd lines. Turnovers will be key. +2 margin will dictate the winner. The Redskins can win, but I'd still favor Philly by about a TD if I were a betting man.

Re: Philly Game Thoughts
guys - just temper your expectations here. philly is so fast. when in the last 25 years have the skins been able to handle a back like sproles or mccoy - and both on the field? very little chance of a win here.
Drinking the Kool-Aid again...
Re: Philly Game Thoughts
after watch them comeback against the Colts the Eagles are even better than I expected and probably more than the Skins can handle on the road. I revise my prediction Eagles 34- Redskins 27.

We're going to win. It's going to be a close game, but as long as our defense can play like they've been playing in the first two weeks, this game should not be an impossible game to win.

Re: Philly Game Thoughts
Won't be surprised either way. The Colts were killing the Eagles with Richardson and Bradshaw last night though. Like FANOFALLTHATISGIBBS wrote above, a heavy dose of Alfred Morris would be a good start.
And I wrote this in another thread, but watching Sproles last night all I can think is THANK GOD BACARRI RAMBO IS NOT OUR STARTING SAFETY THIS SUNDAY. How many "bad angles" do you think he would make in THAT game???

Re: Philly Game Thoughts
It will be interesting to see how Cousins does practicing the whole week with the first team offense. I understand it was against Jacksonville, but I've seen every snap of Cousins' career and that was by FAR the best he has ever looked. I am hoping it wasn't a fluke and he can play well on Sunday. I am not overly concerned if D-Jax can't play. I understand he will be fired up to stick it to his old team, but I think Roberts will fill in just fine.
My 5 Keys to a Redskins Win.
1. Get Pressure on Foles- This is something the Colts couldn't do last night. We need Kerrigan, Hatcher, and Orakpo to have huge games. Hopefully this will lead to a few turnovers along with some sacks.
2. RUN THE BALL! - Feed Alfred Morris! The guy is a beast and with the eagles hurting on defense he can have a huge game on Sunday. Also, a good running game will help take the pressure off Cousins.
3. Don't Turn the ball over. - Seems self-explanatory. Philly's Offense is good enough, we don't need to give them a short field.
4. Good Special Teams play. - Again, field position will be important. The last thing we need is Sproles busting loose on a punt return.
5. Leave Baccari Rambo in Washington- He should be nowhere near the field on Sunday. The guy stinks.

Re: Philly Game Thoughts
Why are people so afraid of Foles? He hasn't played that good this year. He's gotten out of some jams (and padded stats too) thanks to the screen passes.

The Eagles looked very beatable last night.
Re: Philly Game Thoughts
For me, this game hinges on our D-line. If our D-line can get pressure with 4/5 guys then i really like our chances and i think Hatcher may feast inside with Mathis out (he might've anyways). Keenan Robinson's speed should help in this game because McCoy and Sproles are really tough covers in the screen game and in the flats. If we can run the ball successfully and hit some play-action chunk yard plays, convert scoring opp. to TD's and get pressure on Foles then we can win this game (and any game if those things happen). Seeing the success the Colts had on the ground with a poor running game makes me feel confident we can move the ball on them, better score touchdowns though.

Re: Philly Game Thoughts
I'm not that sold on Luck. Last night when he needed to get his team into scoring position, he choked....badly! I'm also not that sold on RGIII. Yes he had an amazing rookie year, can't argue that. But he has now been hurt again. Two major knee surgeries, now an ankle problem. Can he stay healthy enough to be our long term answer? I hope so but don't think so. If Cousins wins all of the games between now and the time RGIII comes back, I think there is a major problem in choice. If he looses all of them, no problem. But how about in between, say wins 3, loses 3. I don't know. Probably RGIII will go back in. Just my opinion.
I think the Redskins can beat Philly if they can contain Sproles and McCoy.

1. Our D-Line should be able to get pressure on Foles.
2. Perry Riley and Keenan Robinson will HAVE to do better than most in containing their RB's. They (our LB's) can win their battles.
3. Run, Run, Run
4. The Iggles LB corps is injured. Our RB's should be able to take advantage of them with Screens. That could easily sway the game.
5. Protect Cousins and he will take advantage of opportunities spotted when the D lines up prior to the snap.
6. Run, run, run.

While I noted "run, run, run"... and "run, run, run", again, the same linebacker vulnerability makes both the runs off the ZBS, and screens to the TB more likely to be effective. Soooooo... just do it all... Hail!

In Luck's defense, the INT appeared to have a def holding not called that helped turn the game at a point where the Colts were poised to go up by 10 late (Disclaimer: Still shouldn't have thrown the ball there on that play...). Additionally, if Luck had an O-coordinator that let him loose at the end, I think it would have resulted in a W. 2 run plays to start the drive killed their final drive. Dumb really.
I believe they showed the stat that Luck has already 10 last minute drives for wins in his young career. I agree about the choke on MNF, but that was more an exception than the rule in his case.
oneman56 - agreed on the D-line comment - crucial for that side of the ball. Hands up on those short, quick passes. We may not get sacks, but pressure needs to disrupt the rhythm of that fast-paced offense. Our secondary will not lose this game for us (Wow! Can't believe I just typed that!)

Colts got screwed out of that game in the last 5 minutes. They should have won. If the Jags can put up points against the Eagles, so can we.

Sorry, they were very average at best until the refs and Luck's knack for throwing horrible ints changed the game. I like our chances.

Right, but what those stats don't tell you and the media who worships him won't tell you is that the biggest reason they have to come back a lot is because Luck throws ints, and a lot of them.

Re: Philly Game Thoughts
Andrew Luck's Career Stats
2012 - 23 TD / 18 INT (Rookie year)
2013 - 23 TD / 9 INT
2014 - 5 TD / 3 INT (to date...)
So yeah, Luck's going back to his rookie form so far in 2014, but his sophomore season in 2013 would suggest that he hardly throws tons of INTs.
Just like to keep the facts in view of our opinions FWIW.
Cheers.
