stroll down memory lane?

Post by cowboykillerzRGiii »

So I was wanting to brush up on my history.. reading and watching the hogs.. lead me to Gibbs' 0-5 start debut.. Joey T going to his house and having a sit down basically saying he wants to win, and that football is more important then his other ventures..
Where fans calling for his head after those 5 games? Was he a primaddona?

Then I watched in awe the 91 season. Man that team was fierce on both sides of the ball! How fun it must've been to watch the Skins trounce the opposition!!! 5-0.. 7-0.. 9-0?!? Damn I was only 6 and probably to busy catching lizards...

*still searching for THE COUNTER TREY

Why are we so quick to abandon THIS team? *Has that success coupled with our current drought made us impatient?
How was Gibbs recieved BEFORE he was a winner??

Why do we judge THIS QB so sternly?! So quick to dismiss him after what he cost us?? And what he gave us in 2012??

I dont get it.

That's a good video of the Robert, we all hope to see again.

Hopefully this season he gets back to his rookie year.

If you are talking about the run that broke Miami's back, it was not the countertrey, but a simple off tackle run to the left... not a counter.

This

Love it!
Thats probably the play I had in mind... the motion was the dagger!
Cant arm tackle a train... sounds familiar!

Is there a particular counter trey we ran that is embedded in our history tho?

No particular one... it was just that they ran it again... and again... and again... and again... and somehow, it always worked.

There was another time that they ran dives over Randy White, again, and again... Jeff Bostic told him... "Our coaches love you... we are going to run it over you again and again" 50 Gut was called 7 times in a row. Each time, Bostic or Grimm told him the same thing. For 3 or 4 plays, White voiced his contempt... after that, however, he just endured it. He was a beaten man. Unheard of... just dominant, bad ass football. Imagine the quality of an offensive line that can tell a quality opponent what they are going to run, and do it, and make it work... even then... it was not as good as the 91 O-line... they were scarey good.

For examples of the counter-trey, find a tape of SB 22. Dan Dierdorf calls it "counter-gap", but it was "counter-trey in Redskin terminology. Watch Timmy Smith's long runs. Even the SB 22 highlights will have them, since he scored a TD on one (second TD of Q2?) and caused the fifth and final TD of that quarter. Redskins were running out the clock but Smith broke loose so Joe Gibbs said "thanks...it's time Clint Didier got a TD pass".

Yes, fans wanted Gibbs fired after the losses that began his first season with the Redskins. I think Dave Kindred or Richard Justice covered the team for the Post. Amazing to read the article after that fifth loss and the articles leading to the game they finally won. We know how "the story" finished, but I was grumbling loudly that the team should not have fired Jack Pardee, our "Ramskins" hero, in favor of this Gibbs guy from Don Coryell's staff.

You reminded me of some exciting football prior to JG. Exciting even when they loss, Sonny to Charley T. Bobby M. Jerry S. scoring 30 pts but not winning.
