Ravens Release Rice !!!

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Ravens Release Rice !!!

Ravens release Ray Rice amid elevator video fallout
By Ryan Wilson | CBSSports.com
September 8, 2014 2:23 pm ET

The Ravens have released running back Ray Rice hours after TMZ posted the surveillance video showing Rice punching his soon-to-be wife, Janay Palmer, in an Atlantic City hotel elevator last February.

Rice can be seen punching Palmer in the face, knocking her out cold, before dragging her limp body out of the elevator. Everyone -- fans, media, politicians, former players -- has expressed outrage on every available medium, including television, radio and social media, at not only the failed legal system, but NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Rice's team, the Baltimore Ravens.

In July, the NFL suspended Rice for two games, a decision that was widely criticized. A month later, Goodell, in a letter to owners announcing a new domestic violence policy, admitted that he got Rice's punishment wrong.

"I take responsibility both for the decision and for ensuring that our actions in the future properly reflect our values. I didn't get it right. Simply put, we have to do better."

Less than two weeks after Goodell's admission, TMZ released the surveillance video that neither the league nor the Ravens said they had seen previously. But because the NFL had already disciplined Rice, the collective bargaining agreement could have prevented the Ravens from leveling additional sanctions.

CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported Monday afternoon that, according to Article 46 of the CBA, a player can only be disciplined once -- by either the commisioner or the team -- for the same act or conduct. The Ravens got around that by releasing Rice outright.

Meanwhile, the league announced Monday afternoon that, "based on new video evidence that became available today (Goodell) has indefinitely suspended Ray Rice."

Rice met with the media in late July, shortly after training camp opened, and was asked if he was prepared to meet the criticism he would likely face.

"I'm prepared for the worst but that's something I've brought upon myself," he said at the time. "I have my teammates, my wife, my family, people close to me who will help me through this. ... I know that I love kids, that I love helping people, and that I will be an ambassador against domestic violence. ...

"That's who I'm going to be as a person, that's who I'm going to be as a man. ... Domestic violence has no place in this world -- especially man on woman -- and I have to live with (that) the rest of my life."

A life that now no longer includes professional football.

Ray Rice needs to be arrested effectively immediately and Goodell needs to be punished in some way for, well, I would say mishandling this situation, but for totally failing to do the right thing on this issue. Is anyone really going to believe that the NFL had no access to the video prior to today? They hoped it would go away, but now they have egg on their face.

It is better to throw the book at Meriweather instead of a woman beater or murderer. Maybe someone that took a supplement or maybe someone that got in a car accident long after he was drunk but still had alcohol in his blood. If he was a Redskin it would have been a witch hunt and done and over.

NFL looks bad for originally giving a 2 game suspension. But who looks worse? Rice for bs about what actually happened and getting the girl to agree. Or the NFL believing him.

Nothing happens to Goodell. He is an innocent saint. Just like the nfl collusion that never happened.

"I was really...I'm disappointed. This is personal for me," Lewis said. "I'm torn because this is a guy, a young man, that I really took up under my wing and tried to mentor to make sure that he had a successful career and stayed away from things like this.

This coming from murdering bastard himself. Lets take it out on the next dope smoker. That will fix it.

I wasn't surprised that the Ravens cut him, but I was just a little surprised that the NFL suspended him indefinitely. I guess it was the short amount of time between getting cut and getting suspended which caught me off guard, and not the overall punishment by the league.

I dislike how the media is asking people like Bruce Arians and Ron Rivera for their opinion on the story, as if they have any ties with Rice or the Ravens organization. The media are such leeches! When they don't try to suck a response out of someone for an irrelevant topic, they'll go to the Twitter to pad the length of their report. Some Broncos player tweeted about it, and they jumped right on it. What the serious hell are they thinking? "Hey, Ray Rice is a football player, and this Broncos guy is also a football player. He tweeted something about the Ray Rice story, so let's report this!" Really?! I also heard that Obama had to put his two cents in on the story. Gaaaaaahhhhhh, I hate this planet! You'd think that he'd have enough on his plate, and would be too busy to talk about sports. Nope!

I also dislike how everyone is talking about it like he killed her. It's always such a somber tone when discussing this story, and people cringe their faces with utter disgust, as if this kind of thing doesn't happen all the time, especially with pro athletes. Hell, Ochocinco headbutted his wife in the face two years ago. It's just a common thing is all I'm saying. Also, it's not like Rice brutally beat her to a pulp; he just gave her a left hook. Don't act like it was so appalling to see. Yeah, it was a bad thing, but dry your tears and take the frog out of your throat when you talk about it. There are much worse things than getting punched in the face.

Now, don't twist my words. I'm not trying to justify what he did, and I'm not trying to make it sound like it wasn't bad. All I'm saying is: 1) Don't act so shocked and outraged, when in fact, this stuff happens often. 2) You should be more upset with the league in how they handled the situation during the offseason. 3) If you have no ties with the Ravens, then stfu!

Now people are going to think I'm a woman-beating misogynist. [-(

I have a problem with the indefinite suspension. Not that I don't think it's a fitting punishment, but it's the whole "once we saw the public reaction to the first punishment, we decided to change our minds," thing. Hell, Goodell just came out with new guidelines about the punishment for these offenses a week ago, and now he's not even sticking to those. The NFLPA should definitely appeal Rice's new suspension, but I'm sure they won't because they don't want to come across as being soft on domestic violence. The problem is, when they just let the league do whatever they want, it sets a dangerous precedent, that they will later regret. It's just like when they agreed to the cap penalties for us, and then later wanted to sue the league for collusion. Well, yes, they obviously colluded, but you allowed them to do it, and even aided them in the process. You can't go back now and say it was wrong because you didn't foresee the fallout.

Now the NFL has a problem, reportedly having access to the video in April.

I'm not surprised in the least. I figured someone in the NFL had seen the elevator tape before last weekend. It's not like the ACPD were holding the video hostage, and only giving it to the highest bidder (in this case, TMZ). Btw, the comments in that article are ridiculous. Everyone is positively affirming that Goodell is going to step down. Yeeeeaaahhhh, no. Don't be ridiculous.

Unbelievable that John Mara is in charge of the investigation into Goodell's handling of the Rice case. That's putting the fox in charge of the hen-house.
