I wonder if Crawford is headed to the practice squad or if his time as a Redskin is over. He had a poor showing last night.

He has been getting burned all year so far... and not helping his case on teams.

He had one or two KOs last night that he chose to down instead of bring out which blows my mind.. preseason, last game non the less, needing to turn heads, with a lead, ~4yards deep... you gotta roll the dicr pin your ears back andtry to make a play! Cooley agreed with my wtf he doin thought on air too.

Bringing in Porter and Breeland balling out all summer didnt help his case any either.

Luckily for us, Crawford is a decent back up- but for another team... and we have added quality depth to push "decent" players off the roster.

Another thing when he returned punts for us a couple years ago he seemed to have a knack to make the first guy miss but in his few times this preseason he hasn't and I'm sure he just doesn't fully trust the knee yet.

Lache Seastrunk, Evan Royster and Chris Thompson were all cut and they kept Silas Redd

Chase Minniefield and Phillip Thomas were also cut as well as the WR Nick Williams & CB Richard Crawford

http://espn.go.com/blog/washington-reds ... -three-rbs

The Redskins decided to keep Forbath over Hocker

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... ilas-redd/

Punter Robert Malone was also cut leaving Tress Way with the job ..... for now
everyone seems to think he will not be the kicker on opening day
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Full list at the moment, per Rich Tandler:

http://realredskins.com/2014/08/29/reds ... s-tracker/

The Redskins have started the process of reducing their roster down to 53 players. We are tracking every move right here, keeping you updated on who’s in and who’s out.

Hit the comments section for comments and questions. Scroll down the page for analysis of key cuts.

All transactions are as reported by multiple media sources except as noted.

Refresh this page for the latest news.

[Related: Tandler and Tarik roster projections on offense, defense/specialists]

Players released: 16
Players to PUP/IR: 1
Transactions left to go: 5

(Players were released/waived unless otherwise noted)

RB Chris Thompson
RB Lache Seastrunk
RB Evan Royster
ILB Darryl Sharpton (IR with designation to return, per Aaron Wilson, Baltimore Sun)
S Phillip Thomas (per Mike Jones, Washington Post)
CB Chase Minnifield (per Jones)
LB Everette Brown (per Jones)
K Zach Hocker
WR Nick Williams
On Friday the Redskins announced that they had waived the following eight players:

CB Richard Crawford
OL Tevita Stevens
S Da’mon Cromartie-Smith
TE Ted Bolser
OL Kevin Kowalski
P Robert Malone
NT Robert Thomas
WR Lee Doss
Analysis of key transactions:

CB Richard Crawford–The 2012 draft pick never regained the form he had before suffering a torn ACL during a preseason game a year ago. The team was unsure of his status to begin with and they drafted Bashaud Breeland and signed Tracy Porter as a free agent. He is eligible for the practice squad and that is where he is likely to land.

TE Ted Bolser–A seventh-round pick this year, he seemed too raw to have a legitimate shot at making the roster. He’s another practice squad candidate and he should be back to give it another go next season.

P Robert Malone–The Redskins signed him early on and he appeared to have the inside track since he punted for special teams coach Ben Kotwica with the Jets. But last night Malone got off a weak 31-yard punt while newcomer Tress Way boomed two for an average of 51 yards with solid hang time. That, plus reports that Way was booming the ball in practice, apparently led to Malone’s release.

RB Chris Thompson--It looked like he may have played his way onto the roster with a good performance on Thursday. But his injury history had to play against him. A likely practice squad candidate.

RB Lache Seastrunk–Let this be a lesson to fans and media types alike–one play does not clinch a roster spot for a player. Many thought his 80-yard run after catching a short Colt McCoy pass was his ticket to the 53. But he still needs to polish up his route running and blocking skills and the Redskins likely hope he clears through to the practice squad.

RB Evan Royster–He was cut as a rookie (later returned from practice squad) and a lot of fans and pundits thought he’d be released last year. He survived but his lack of speed may have doomed him this time around.

I kind of expected Hocker to be cut, but I am bummed about it nonetheless.

I think cutting Royster makes a lot of sense. We've seen his peak, more or less. Good guy, and capable of playing in the NFL, but we were just too stacked at the position for it to work out.

I think Seastrunk will make it to the practice squad without a problem.

Awesome that Redd is getting this chance. Truly an underdog, and truly deserving.

Biggest shock on the list, IMHO, is Phillip Thomas. I'm guessing his foot just isn't right.

LACHE??????!!!!! WTF!!!???

I hope we get this guy to our PS...I really liked what I saw from him. Same with P. Thomas; way too early to give up on the guy...injury-ridden or not.

You have to look at the whole picture.. even on the td run he missed his block and let him run free ar the qb. He is young and needs some polishing. His insistence on stretching everything to the sidelines didn't help his chances.

I liked Lache AND Royster.. but watching each rush attempt from thursday its clear that Redd was the best of the three IMHO.

Sad to see Crawford go. Will always remember that PR in the Ravens game. Thought he could develop into something solid.

I'm disappointed about Thomas. I was very happy we got him in the 4th round last year. Maybe PS? Hope he gets healthy.

Reports are that the Redskins aren't even considering signing Lache to the PS. I thought he looked better than Thompson, but he just got signed to our PS.

Wasted pick.

How is it a wasted pick when your sixth round running back pick who can't figure out who to block on blitz pick up is cut from a group of 6 RBs? Isn't finding that out at the expense of just a 6th round pick what you're supposed to do with you sixth round pick?
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

I really like the move to keep Redd as none of the other RBs could replace AM if he gets hurt. We couldn't expose him to waivers.

Thompson or Seastrunk, no difference to me, will replace Helu if he gets hurt. None of those 3 could be an every down back.

Reports are that Thompson has been more impressive, when healthy, all through the offseason. I see his PS appointment as his last chance to get healthy and prove he can stay healthy. Ultimately I don't have high hopes for him, but we'll see.

Wasted pick.

No. A risky pick with lots of upside. Just because it didn't work out doesn't mean it was a wasted pick.

Who exactly would you have preferred we'd taken at that spot?

Maybe if Cousins has a great year we could trade him for a sixth rounder instead of a fourth!

I suppose the core of my confusion is why we wasn't even brought onto the practice squad. I don't put much thought into what round a player is drafted in; its possible to find a gem in any round.

Only 1 out of 5 6th round picks never play a game in the NFL. Four out of five do.

Alfred Morris was selected in the sixth round.

Pierre Garçon was selected in the sixth round.

Someone already mentioned Tom Brady.

As of 2012, of all sixth rounders selected in the prior 17 years, 22% were still active players. That's a lot.
