Re: 2014 Training Camp
I know there is still those who dislike Meriweather, this article gave me that fuzzy feeling tho-
"Speaking of Meriweather, he has held the role of fan crusader this camp. Yesterday, cornerback David Amerson was walking off the field right after practice, and Meriweather told him to go back and pick a child out of the crowd to take a walk with, which is keeping with the tradition Bruce Allen had the players start last year. Amerson explained that he had to get in work on the JUGS machine, and then do a TV interview. Meriweather told him, “That [stuff] can wait. Go grab a kid.” Amerson obeyed. Today, Clark addressed the media from the podium (Redskins PR picks a different player each day) and Meriweather interrupted the news conference to ask Clark to sign an autograph for a fan begging for it. Clark explained that he was in the middle of taking questions. After cracking some jokes and asking questions of his own, Meriweather brought the fan into the media work room and had Clark stop and sign the man’s arm with a permanent marker. Clark completed the favor, and went back to taking questions. Meriweather and the overjoyed fan left."

"I appreciate their support,” he said. “I’m excited about coming back and repaying them for their loyalty.”
Loyalty is a big theme with Clark. It explains why he wears a No. 21 jersey in practice rather this his own No. 25. His close friend Sean Taylor wore No. 21, of course, and that’s how Clark chooses to honor the former Redskins free safety who was killed by an intruder in his south Florida home in 2007.
If it confuses fans, Clark is pleased. Anytime someone asks, he has a chance to talk about the man and teammate Taylor was.
“I know I’m not the player he was or the athlete he was,” Clark said of Taylor. “But he was my friend, and I want people to remember him.”

Cowboykillez... I love Meriweather... I know he isn't a great FS but at SS he is very good IMO!!! The only real safety we had last year. People can say what they want about him as far as head shots and dirty playing and so forth... He never intends to maim. He is just trying to make a play and doesn't take a proper aim. Thanks for that because it shows he is a good man.

Re: 2014 Training Camp
I'm with you Kilmer... he got some talks at camp for what coach said was "close" to being illegal. I honestly think its the opposite of disregarding other players health in way of injuring them more as Brandon having a total lack of his own personal safety.. he just sacrifices arm and limb to stop the player and make a tackle.. its his reaction to just htf outta some one! 10 years ago and he's one of the most feared in the biz w respect for the skill at the position.

Only officially retired number is 33. I'm a bit surprised they'd let him use 21, though.

He wears 21 in practice only. On game days he wears 25. He's been doing this since a bit after Sean's murder (not sure exactly when he started). There were articles when signed with us again about him having reached out to Sean's widowed fiancee (not sure how you refer to her technically) to again get her blessing to do this now that he was with the Redskins. She and his family, I believe were still touched by his dedication to Sean's memory.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

That's right emoses... I answered my self later w the bit about 25 and Clark wanting to talk to people about his friend Taylor.

Re: 2014 Training Camp
Sweet pic of Reed going up (wayy up! Boy gotz some hops!) On fb today, cant tell if it was defended or if he came down with it? From Coaches presser I ascertained that today was a good practice on both sides of the ball, live tackling, Tanna got a TD.. Andre Roberts killn it, some kid (sorry bub) hurt his shoulder MRI to follow, and Garçon had some "tightness in the Hamstring but he's fine"... any of you tweeters got any inside gems from the D.C. reporters or does that sum it up?
-oh ya signed a puke OLB, meh... even if it just prevents them from signing him back its worth it! Im not expecting anything from the guy tho, we are deep at ooh.

Tuesday is a day off - so don't get all excited about not seeing any 'reports'
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

This is the kind of training camp news I want to be reading...

RG III looks so much better than he did while returning last summer from his knee injury. Of course, he should look better given the differences in the offseason. He's not Peyton Manning out there, but Griffin has thrown some excellent passes and made some good reads. There are times when he's forced to run and that's when it's often hard to tell why, without going back and seeing what happened. In the past, he often ran when he could have thrown. I will say, he's cut down on those runs as camp has progressed.

Hey everybody,
what's up? I'll admit I'm a Saints fan myself (who dat), but there was a time when I enjoyed watching RG3. What oh what does this season have to hold for the team? Someone in my office recently interviewed Mike Jones from the Post about this season's outlook, so if anyone is interested then check it out below and tell me what you think.

Nice:
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfceast/post/_/ ... ins-excels
Jarvis Jenkins is having an excellent training camp and that was evident again Friday. He's winning battles in the one-on-one's with defensive linemen -- often with a shuffle and then more of a burst. Also saw him defeat left tackle Tom Compton on a run to the right. Compton could only get a hand on him and was too outstretched; Jenkins was a couple yards in the backfield. Later, Jenkins drove left guard Shawn Lauvao into the backfield.
I continue to be impressed with Kory Lichtensteiger at center. Looked good in the one-on-ones against Barry Cofield.

Re: 2014 Training Camp
Also nice:
But kind of what we've all been wondering...:
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfceast/post/_/ ... port-day-9
Some defensive players who have jumped out thus far: defensive end Jarvis Jenkins, linebacker Keenan Robinson and linebacker Perry Riley. The latter two have separated themselves from the rest of the linebacker group in part because they fit what the Redskins want: They both can run. When you’re playing against offenses like the Eagles, that becomes a must. It’s not as if Jenkins has been the most impressive player, but he has improved and that’s what the Redskins needed to see. The question for Robinson, though, centers around his tackling ability. So even though he’s pleased the coaches to this point, he still has more to prove.
But kind of what we've all been wondering...:
Gruden has discovered what the previous coaches already knew: Receiver Aldrick Robinson is fast – and inconsistent. Robinson got open for two deep passes Friday. But, overall, he still needs to do more. At this point he’d be their sixth receiver, behind the starting three, Santana Moss and rookie Ryan Grant. “There’s no substitute for speed and he definitely has it,” Gruden said of Robinson. “His hands have got to become more consistent. He’s dropped a few here and there, but overall he’s had an excellent camp.” Not sure about excellent; tough to do that if you need to be more consistent. But Robinson’s speed always is prized.

Re: 2014 Training Camp
More stuff from ESPN's NFC East Blog - Training Camp Day 10
The good:
The not-so-good:
So far so good. The team is making progress by all accounts. And most importantly no major health set backs to date. Tough for Jerry Rice Jr. and the other kid who were long shots, but I'd rather read that then something about Ryan Clark, RGIII, or one of our linemen.
The good:
Linebacker Keenan Robinson had a strong practice; I focused on him more than in the past just to see his progress. When he recognizes the play and moves his feet, he makes a big impact. It’s a matter of doing it all the time and we’ll see in the preseason exactly where he’s at. But Saturday was a good day: he tipped a pass, filled the hole and got to his spots in a hurry. Robinson takes plays away from this offense; now we need to see him do it against an offense he doesn’t face every day.
The not-so-good:
The Redskins drew 20,477 fans to Fan Appreciation Day, which was less than last year but considering the threat of storms that’s not a surprise. Last year was also the first year in Richmond, and they were coming off a 10-6 season. The rain did hold off on Saturday, though the sky stayed gray all day. They did get to see a full-pad workout. Did not put this in the practice report, but safety Bacarri Rambo, who made a couple plays in practice, did not have a good one-on-one tackling session. He allowed receiver Nick Williams to get wide on him. So Rambo cut back in line to go one more time. And receiver Cody Hoffman ran to the other side and Rambo never got his hands on him.
So far so good. The team is making progress by all accounts. And most importantly no major health set backs to date. Tough for Jerry Rice Jr. and the other kid who were long shots, but I'd rather read that then something about Ryan Clark, RGIII, or one of our linemen.

Re: 2014 Training Camp
I want to see how Rambo does on the field.. the one-on-one fail shadows the previous line about him making plays on the field. I'd say in that lends to him making progress but still needs to sharpen his angles of attack and get his timing/aim more on point.
So there was a smaller turnout to fan appreciation day then last year... yet they denied me tickets even tho it was on my birthday?! The nerve! We'd be in Richmond right now instead of fly fishing in beautiful Durango, #Dang
If someone could provide more reports, tweets, inside info ill be back at it on Tuesday.. thanks for the updates already provided too

Tom Brady bringing the boys back to reality some today...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/foo ... s-defense/
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/foo ... s-defense/
Facing the Redskins’ first-string defense, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady torched the secondary. The future Hall of Famer often targeted second-year cornerback David Amerson.
Typically accurate on the short routes that are a staple of the Patriots’ offense, Brady controlled Washington’s defense. From start to finish, Amerson appeared out of sync. It was as tough as it looked, Amerson acknowledged.
“He caught us off guard,” Amerson said. “We’ve got to do a better job communicating the calls. Guys didn’t really know what to expect.”

Re: 2014 Training Camp
On the plus side, our struggles on defense seem to be nicely balanced by continuing struggles on offense.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/foo ... ason-game/
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/foo ... ason-game/
Toward the latter portions of practice, the offense seemed to click a little better. Griffin, operating under a slightly quicker pace and working his mid-range passing game, moved his offense down the field with completions to fullback Darrel Young, tight end Logan Paulsen and slot receiver Andre Roberts. But the drive stalled with an overthrow to Pierre Garcon. Griffin then had a 20-yard pass to tight end Jordan Reed at the New England 25, but Reed got only one foot down, negating the would-be completion.
On third and 10, Griffin’s protection gave out on him again, and the Patriots recorded what would’ve been another sack.
Meanwhile, Tom Brady and New England’s offense operated with precision. Running an uptempo no-huddle attack, Brady moved the ball up and down the field against Washington’s defense.

Re: 2014 Training Camp
I have to keep reminding myself that it's a first-year head coach with a lot of new staff, coming off of a bad year. It's about what I'd expect when that gets tested for the first time against the Patriots.

Oh yeah, man. No surprises here at all. Personally I think its great to get our butts kicked around training camp by an elite team like the Patriots. We've had all of these discussions about how good our team *could* be and how great the look on paper. They'd better figure out how to look good on the field between now and September. Tom Brady isn't even trying that hard right now!!! lol.
