The D line just got MUCH better... A DE who can collapse the pocket is going to increase numbers for Orakpo and Kerrigan as well...

Finally the team makes a FA pickup I like. Hatcher is an elite defensive lineman and he's going to make our line much better. We still have a long ways to go, but the D-Line is much stronger now.

4 years 27.5 million is the official contract amount, but do we know what our real commitment is to him? Is this a deal we can get out of next year or after year two without major cap implications? Hatcher will be 32 at the start of next season and is coming off of a career year.

Well I kind of felt like this was gonna happen. I didnt expect us to sign him to a four year contract. I thought a one year contract at Hatchers age. Still I am happy about this. Woo hoo!
Lets hope he can give us a season like last year.
It feels especially good knowing he was a puke who played well last year. Yet we snatched him from our most hated rival.

After letting Ware go. You would think that the pukes would try to secure some kind of defensive players. Just goes to show that Jerrah has no clue what hes doing. LOL!

Jerrah may not have a clue, but he definitely has no cap space. The Cowboys are in big trouble this year.

Lets see...
he is over 30
Has had one good season
That good season was just before he became a free agent
His best two games last season came against us

Well lets see all the details of the deal before we criticise too much, but no matter how you look at it that's a major upgrade along the line.

I'm pretty sure, having seen the nature of the deals so far, that we wont be too committed to him beyond two years.

The only two cowgirls I'd like to see in the B&G were Sean Lee and Hatcher, so I'm pretty happy with the deal.

If we can get Clark then we'll have added Hatcher, Porter and Clark - which I think will make a difference for this D for sure.

Guess we'll see with Hatcher. I think people are making a little too much noise about his age though. The guy is going to turn 32 this fall, not 38. He's not one of those old vets who has been repeatedly injured, coming off major knee surgery or whatever. And he's not playing WR where he's not as fast as he was at 26.

32 isn't bad.

I think you gotta look at the details on the "one good season" thing a little bit. He had more sacks last year, but a lot of that was because they moved from a 3-4 to a 4-3. His role was different, asked to do different things. He had more tackles in 2012.

i don't think he was a starter until 2011, so the guy has less wear and tear on him than a typical 32 year old. Also, since he was a late starter you'd expect to see him making big jumps the first few years. Not sure he'll duplicate 11 sacks, but we need QB pressure and he brings that from the interior in 4 down linemen sets. Everyone on the back-end will get a little better because of this signing.

- His addition provides less of a drop off, if any during rotations.

- His addition allows us to generate more pressure up the middle, we sucked at that last year. Having him and Cofield in the middle during nickel packages will be huge!

- This will drive up the sacks for Orakpo and Kerrigan. How many times could a QB simply step up and evade their rush?

- This will open up safety blitzes.

With Hatcher beside/in front of him, Orakpo should simply sign his franchise tender and play the year. He should tally some good sack totals with Hatcher disrupting things.

So if I'm reading this right ... if, for some reason, we let him go after a year, the subsequent cap hit would be $6.75M, and, if after 2 years, the subsequent cap hit would be $4.5M?

This is huge. I'd like 2 more guys like Hatcher and/or Cofield. Hoping Baker and Jenkins can step up.

Anyone have any idea who the three starters will be?

Coefield NT
Baker DE
Hatcher DE

How about Jenkins? Does Bowen stay on the roster?

Who are our final 6 DL?

we really don't know who will be here yet .... it's only March ....
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Considering how cap friendly this deal was and how it addressed a specific need, and how we took a good player from Dallas, and how highly ranked he was as a free agent, this deal was awesome in my opinion. He was the highest ranked DT in Bill Polians rank.

We're not getting flashy players, we're staying patient and signing players to solid and smart deals. Let's hope it translates to wins.
