Super Bowl XLVIII Game Day Thread

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

re Super Bowls odds & betting lines

Post by SkinsJock »

I don't know why but I thought the Seahawks were 'favored' late this week - shows what I know

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-foo ... -on-sunday

despite the claims of some here, the Seahawks and the Broncos 'opened' as basically a pick-em game - after a couple of days, the Broncos edged in front as the favorite - earlier this week, because so many in the media were favoring the Seahawks, I thought the betting line/odds must have changed to the Seahawks

seems the Broncos are still the favorite

Go Broncos & Countertrey
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Not to mention Yahoo!, The Sporting News, and USA Today.

I guess you couldn't hear the Internet screaming ...

Then there are these major casinos that posted before all your cherry picked sources (both of 'em, which are webites, not books).

These are the opening lines of every book I could find that posted an opening line before 9:59 PM on January 19th. No cherry picking whatsoever.

Here's another tidbit. The Chief Line Originator is William Hill. This is where all the big casinos go for THE OPENING LINE.

“I can’t tell you who the winner’s going to be, but I can put a number out there for you, that might draw some two-way action and is somewhere in the ballpark.” said Nick Bogdanovich, the director of trading at William Hill U.S. “It’s what we do. We do it year in and year out, and you develop a feel for it.”

They know that square money is enthralled by favorites and falls hard for teams that have done a lot for them lately. The Broncos, for instance, not only covered against New England, but looked good doing it. It’s part of the reason Denver is currently the 2 ½-point favorite even though oddsmakers opened with the Seahawks — a team they believe is better — as a 2- to 2 ½-point favorite.

Please check your PMs for further clarity including your mis-quoting of me where you incorrectly assert I posted something I did not.

I'm finding it hard to be interested in this game. Feels like football began to get stale about a month ago. Pitchers and catchers report in about two weeks.

Well let me just say Redskins SuperBowl champs next year. We can have a team like Seattle just got to shore up the line and a good draft for defense. Congrats to Seattle. But its ours next year.

Only one that was worse that I can remember was the giants ravens snooze fest back in 99(?).
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

Of course, had it been the Redskins, we would have all been glued to our sets.

No doubt. I would have called in sick today.

This was a bigger beat down than Black Sunday.

Yes. I wonder if Denver teams tend to be light and fast, and to play well in Denver. Have an advantage there, but the advantage falls when they are away from home. The Denver offensive line seemed to melt. Seattle defender looked bigger. That was true of SB 21 (second half, anyway), SB 22 (our favorite seocnd quarter, and SB 23.

I was really dissapointed in Denvers performance. My heart was pulling for Manning but all along I kind of knew the Hammer was coming down. I really thought Manning could at least put up a better fight.

I bet New England would of put up a better fight then Denver did. Its going back to the old days when the NFC simply dominated the SBs. Its an absolute dog fight in the NFC. Carolina, Green Bay, New Orleans, San Fran, Seattle, Atlanta when healthy and our Redskins should be hungry next year as well.

We are really going to need our defense to step up. Our power running game was very good when RG3 was healthy. It was good last year too. Just saying though with RG3 healthy its really something to deal with.

Black Sunday was not as big a beat down as the score suggested. Three huge plays led to 21 points. Other than those, the game was relatively close.

Yes ... making this beat down worse.

Huge catch by Ray Guy while we had a punt disaster.

Rocket screen.

The game was over before Marcus Allen's big run.
