He seems to have a great reputation. I guess he'll have a chance to prove himself now.

Paulsen notes:
Kyle Shanahan was hired as an OC for the first time at 28. McVay just turned 27. Seen as a rising star. Future head coaching type.

Good for McVay to have Jay Gruden and I agree with #47 - now we need a great QB coach
McVay and Gruden have a great opportunity here

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Wow, I had no idea he was that young. I guess he must have really impressed people in the past couple of years.

Re: Thoughts on McVay as OC??
I don't know this for certain, but it seems like he would be working pretty closely with Gruden given the coach's background. Implementing the stuff that Gruden runs, not showing up here like Al Saunders with his own thousand page book of offense or whatever. haha.
Could be a pretty young staff in general though, Irn Bru, if Raheem Morris gets the DC job. He's only 37 and Jay Gruden is like 47?

Players seem to like him. Tight Ends have been consistently productive since he took the job in 2011. Give him a chance. He can't be worse than daddy's boy kyle.

I think comments like this are just dumb. Kyle wasn't that bad, at all. And check our your new HC's tendency to run the ball in the playoffs... It's not a good track record. So yes, things could be similar and/or worse, or better.
The road to the number 1 pick gaining speed!

That's why I'm curious about his abilities. For such a high reputation in such a short time, that's something worth noting.

Re: Thoughts on McVay as OC??
as I posted elsewhere ... I am glad we have decided on a HC and I like the choice .. I agree with riggofan - it's time to move on with all this
I particularly like the choice for OC - Sean McVay - it might have been harder to 'work together' if we'd brought in some super OC
this way Sean can learn from Jay and at the same time bring some new thinking to the offense that Jay has proven is a good offense
we do need a QB coach that complements what these 2 want to get done and gets RG3 ready to be the QB he (RG3) wants to be
RG3 said today that he's looking forward to becoming a much better all round QB and not just a good read option type QB

My only problem with this SkinsJock is age. We already had problems or rumors of problems with Kyle. I could only imagine what could happen with a 27 year old OC. He may work out great and I hope so. It might be difficult if we get older vets in here to plug holes for a while.

Re: Thoughts on McVay as OC??
It's not like he would be calling the plays. He would really be the asst OC since Gruden will be the play caller. Maybe he helps Gruden build a game plan.

I didn't know that Jay would be calling the plays and perhaps McVay would only be helping to game plan. I didn't hear the presser just read it. I certainly didn't get any of that. The only thing I got out of what was written was nothing was written in stone and he was going to interview many coach's and they might or might not be part of his plan.

Players universally say he is a brilliant football mind and can teach the game. We need both. This was from
ey, Fletcher, and Paul. All pretty credible sources. I read more unilateral support on-line for McVay today than anyone else on the staff.

Yeah I heard on 980 that players said they were glad that he was still there and that could help them make the roster because he knew them. Also in that article
He won’t have a problem calling plays.”
Also this from http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/foo ... -playbook/
But Gruden will serve as play-caller, he said.
Also this
“It’s got to be genuine,” he said of the trust that he intends to develop with Griffin. “He’s got to believe it. I’m going to let him know that I’m a trustworthy guy. He’s also got to understand that I expect a lot from the starting quarterback. I expect him to come in and prepare and work hard and I expect him to take the blame on some throws. I expect him to be a great leader. I expect him to do extra things to be great. As long as he’s working his butt off, I will provide him with everything he needs to be successful and I will give him every avenue – if he doesn’t like a play, I’m not going to call the play. I want to make sure that he’s going to be comfortable with everything we’re doing so he goes out on game day and he can succeed.”

Chris
ey had nothing but great things to say about McVay:
Tight End has been one of the most consistent positions on our offense. Lets hope he can work his magic on the rest of the offense now.
Chris

“I think Sean would be terrific as an offensive coordinator. I'll tell you what guys, I've had nothing to say but great things about Sean McVay. He is a football-minded guy, he'll do a great job in that role. I'm extremely excited for him. Yes, he was the tight ends coach here for the last two and a half seasons … When Jon Embree took the job in Colorado, I went into Mike and Kyle and said it has to be Sean for tight ends coach. I would love this guy. He took over as kind of the interim for kind of a couple weeks and he was as good as it got for me as a position coach. I mean, a smart a guy as I've been around as a position coach. So I think that's a good decision.”
