I like Roman also.. I think he could bring some of that toughness they have in SF to the East coast. I also like the offense he runs in SF I think it could work with the players we have on Offense now. The o-line is designed for a run first offense, personnel wise RG/ Kapernick, Morris/ Gore, Reed/Davis, Garcon/ Crabtree.. We definitely have the players to make his offense work!

My biggest downfall with Gruden is the other coaches that are out there. I mean Bevell and Roman both have shown they can build offenses around young QB's who are similar to RG. Also offenses that have a power back and not the most talent at the WR position.. that sounds like the Redskins to me :)

Remember when everybody in the NFL used to mock "THE BUNGLES" for their disastrous seasons, coaches and players.

How life changes and puts everybody in their rightful place:

Marvin Lewis has assembled a very competent coaching staff in Cinci and Danny preferred to hire Spurrier as HC because it was the fancy thing to do at the time. In the meantime, Marvin improved his staff and players. NOW ... we are looking up to interview and potentially hire at least two of his assistants.

How LIFE always puts each one of us and our organizations in the RIGHTFUL place we deserve to be. Redskins looking up to the NO MORE BUNGLES.

Oh! The IRONY.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

Hah. Wish I could find some video of that!

Guy struck me as very much like his brother in terms of his demeanor and everything. Anybody we hire is a gamble, but at least this guy would be entertaining.

you know - that is pretty funny but that's reality in the NFL

these are very talented players and coaches and they are getting paid a lot to do this ...

too many of these guys do not give it everything they've got and I think that's a big reason we did not do well here the past few years

this guy could be our guy and he's the type of HC that will make everyone work very hard
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Redskins, Vikings, Lions, Titans all want to interview Jay Gruden

Now that the Bengals' season is over, teams with head-coaching vacancies are free to interview offensive coordinator Jay Gruden. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports that the Redskins, Vikings, Lions and Titans have all requested permission to do just that.

More from La Canfora:

"He is one of the most in-demand coordinators and has passed up opportunities in the past but is very much interested in becoming a head coach now, sources said.

"Many of these jobs would interest him, and all are likely to hire an offensive-minded coach, with correcting, or finding, a quarterback the paramount chore for these organizations. While Gruden's offense has struggled in the playoffs the last three years, he has helped Andy Dalton -- a limited quarterback in some regards -- put up some record regular-season numbers, and the Bengals' offense was among the NFL's best the second half of the season.

"Gruden previously served as a coach (and essentially general manager) in the Arena League, he has strong organizational skills, and comes from a coaching pedigree, with his older brother Jon, a former Super Bowl winner. Gruden also has ties to Redskins GM Bruce Allen, and the Redskins in particular could end up hiring an offensive-minded, first-time head coach."

There has been some skepticism about Gruden's play-calling skills, especially in light of Dalton's implosion Sunday, but the reality is this: A coach is only as good as his franchise quarterback. Just ask Bill Belichick, who was run out of Cleveland, and began his New England career with a 5-11 record with Drew Bledsoe under center.

Put another way: You think a healthy Robert Griffin III changes the perception about Gruden's abilities? Because a year ago, people were talking about Kyle Shanahan as possible head-coaching candidate.

Maybe you are right. I was thinking more along these lines
“I got called to interview for these jobs,” Jay Gruden told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “I figure I better say yes or they’ll quit asking me.”

I guess we shall see wont we?

Yeah I know what a consensus is, just not sure we've gotten anything like that yet! :)

There a few rumors on Twitter (HTTR24_7, UKRedskin1, and Britt McHenry) that Jay Gruden wants Steve Spagnuolo as his DC. I don't know how I feel about that. His Defensive stats have fallen off since he was with NYG with loads of talent. I would much rather have Gregg Williams as DC.

I completely understand that I am not on the list of people that will be asked for opinions, but just put in my 2 cents on a fan site. I have no idea who is going to be hired as the new HC.

My top 3 best guesses:

Jay Gruden
Ken Whisenhunt

I could not agree more - the key is not to just hire a good HC but to hire a guy that can get the most out of his staff and his players - we need to bring in a guy that will LEAD and then help him bring in assistants that will get the most out of their players and make the game fun to play

I'm scared that, as RiC is intimating, this is the same old Redskins, at the same time I'm hopeful this FO can put together a good team of coaches to lead our franchise

Jay Gruden seems to have all the right stuff and hopefully he wants to be a part of what's happening here

this franchise does not need a great HC - we need a great leader - someone that wants to work through his assistants rather than a HC that wants all the glory
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

Glad to see he's coming in for the interview!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/foo ... -redskins/
The Washington Redskins are expected to interview Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden for their vacant head coaching job on Wednesday.

Gruden’s interview with the Redskins is to come between meetings with two other teams. He was scheduled to interview Tuesday with the Tennessee Titans and is scheduled to be interviewed Thursday by the Minnesota Vikings, according to several people with knowledge of the situation.

It is not clear if the Redskins will make a push to hire Gruden quickly or continue with the interviewing process after meeting with Gruden. But some connected to the league-wide hiring process believe Gruden would be a particularly good fit with the Redskins because of his history of working with General Manager Bruce Allen and assistant coaches Raheem Morris, Sean McVay and Jim Haslett, who were not fired when the team fired Mike Shanahan and much of his staff.

The Redskins are close behind the Lions in terms of which franchise is perceived to be the 'most attractive' ...

The Redskins have a much better 'potential' franchise QB in RG3 but we still have an incredibly bad influence in Dan Snyder

I hope they settle on someone soon so they can start to put the staff together as well - the HC is V important but the OC and DC are pretty critical here as well
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

I'll be curious to see if that ends up being true that Detroit is the more attractive job opening. I kind of assumed it would be, because of the talent on the roster. There are some drawbacks though like having to live in Detroit. hah.

Here's a thought for you guys though. Why does Dan Snyder have to be such a negative? All of the annoying things aside, we still have this owner who loves his team and will seemingly spend any amount of money to make it better.

I think we had one coach, Joe Gibbs, who seemed to understand how to work with Snyder. It always looked to me like Gibbs kept Snyder close and involved and was on good terms with him. I had expected Shanahan to take the same approach, but I'm not sure it ended up like that. Take advantage of the strong support of your team owner, treat him as a real partner, but be able to stand your ground on making the correct football related decisions.

Easier said than done?

Gibbs has a completely different personality than Shannahan. Gibbs could deflect praise toward his players and coaches. He is a much more humble man and doesn't need all the atta-boys and accolades. Shannahan HAS to be the smartest guy in the room. Big difference. That is why Gibbs could allow Snyder to be close to him while Shanny couldn't stand having a football know-nothing anywhere within hand grenade range.

Snyder needs to stop making things difficult for the coaches and players ... especially RG3

I don't think all the BS reports about he and RG3 are true but any contact away from the field between the owner and players is not at all good

the problem is that the coaches and other players are not really sure what is going on between Dan Snyder and RG3 - this is not good
you just know that the 'reports' about the relationship are going to be blown way out of proportion

the HC has to have absolute authority and that is undermined by Dan's interference by meeting with RG3 no matter what the 'excuse' is

RG3 needs to show his team and his coaches where his absolute loyalties lie - any form of 'friendship or association' with Dan Snyder is going to hurt that

we have potential HCs coming in for interviews and if they are going to have a QB that is 'tight' with the owner, that would be a huge concern

The Detroit job is a much better deal than the Redskins only because of Dan Snyder - we would be a really great place to work if Dan would stop interfering
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
