RG3 was not the main reason for our winning the NFC East - he played great but he was just a part of a very good effort on many players and coaches parts as well
RG3 was not the sole reason for our bad record this season although his play at QB certainly did not help much either
RG3 is still developing as an NFL QB and I'm sure he will become the best to ever play in a Redskins uniform but he has a lot of work to do to get there
He's not just going to become a great QB because he's so talented -
he's going to have to work his butt off and he's going to need to have good coaching and good players around him
NFL players do not need a "dose of humility" - they're ALL incredibly talented and they play a game in front of huge crowds
RG3 will be fine - he just did not have the time to grow and develop into a more rounded QB
give me a break
I don't disagree with this.
Sorry if I was unclear, but my thoughts have always been that RG3 inspired the team, and as a team, they all played better. Even the line was looking decent last year; at some points they even looked great.
Whatever "dis-inspired" the team contributed to what we have this year. I think we would be in denial if we didn't acknowledge that this was likely due to Robert's injury and lack of offseason. The team was developing around Cousins during that time. Whatever happened in there/from there, only the guys on the inside know.
The only thing I guess I could disagree with you on is the humility statement. You can't teach an arrogant person. Not saying RG3 is completely arrogant, but some things he's said this year, I interpreted as him being arrogant from time to time. Sure, I could be wrong, but its not illogical for a kid with this level of talent to feel frustrated and have his moments.
Any bit of "back to reality" a gifted player receives is for their ultimate good. Someone who thinks they are the best and doesn't need coaching (
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... this-game/) is going to cause division with the team, and hamper their own growth. Anyone who realizes that maybe they need some minor fixes to their game is going to be eager to receive input from others. To be fair, I believe Robert clarified those statements, but he said what he said clearly...all else is damage control.
I linked the article above that made me quite nervous this year, but hopefully that's all behind him now and he's hungry to grow with the team some more.
To wrap this up, I think RG3 will have moments where he's going to act his age. Having a dose of humility this year was great for him, as it hopefully will mature him faster as a player.
I believe that he will grow/mature, and this year's failure is going to speed up the process for him. Its the gas on his fire, if you will.
