My opinion of last night.
Firts off I gotta say. I feel sorry for Jon Jansen. He was ready to reach that new level under Gibbs and Bugel, but unfortunatley this is part of the game. He is tough though he will be back, in 2005 playing like an animal they just let out of the cage.
Second. Here is assesment of the skins.
One you can see the difference in our play, from last year. While we were a little rusty, we did not have too many penalties.
Here is a big thing that jumped out at me that no one really has been talking about. NO SACKS. We did not allow a sack last night, which is a huge improvement.
We had a pass rush. It may not have sacked a the QB every time, but we did at least force him to throw the ball, and force some bad throws.
I really don't think we are in desperate need of getting Ogunleye as I once thought. We should not have to give up a 1st round pick, or any body that has a posibility of being a big time player on our team. Maybe give them something like Taylor Jacobs, and a 3rd round pick, if that is enough. I would not give up much more.
Taylor Jacobs, Scott Cloman, and Cliff Russell, better show up next game. If they look sloppy they could find themselves looking for a job. Gary Scott and Jafar williams look like they are not just auditioning to be on another team. They want to play here, and they have the skills to do so.
We had some problems stopping the run last night, but I don't really see that as a problem. Phillip Daniels, Brandon Noble, and Mike Barrow did not play. All of them Got to where they are today being good run stoppers.
Marcus Washington will be a pro bowler this year. He played very well, and I see him Barrow, and LaVar Arrington being among the best linebackers in the league, for a very long time.
Neither Ramsey or Brunnell looked really good. Ramsey held it to long and audibled too much. Brunnell was not very accurate at all. Hasselbeck played good, but against special teamers.
Sean Taylor will be an absolute beast. He played spectacular and not just on the two int's. On every play. He stopped the run. He made one hit. He made the two picks, and brought one back. He is as good as advertised. He was in perfect position. He played like a veteran Not like a rookie. Andre Lott move to second string. You will still get plenty of oppurtunities this year, but this guy needs to stary.
Ryan B. (I cant spell his last name) played very well at DT. He came up with 1.5 sacks, and he got a good push up the middle. He will make the team, and in my opinion, be that Hidden Gem, that Joe Gibbs always seems to find.
Ade Jimoh. What else can you say. I like the guy. But he has to go. If he ever steps on the field he will be victimized. Who was #38 with the long hair? That guy can play. Rashad Bauman and Walt Harris will be back, Ralf Brown played well. Say good bye to Ade.
All and All we had a rough night, but we did get some very good things accomplished. We won. And more importantly, the said they wanted to when for Joe Gibbs.
We definatley looked alot better than we did against Carolina last year. We have something to build off of, I'd say it is a pretty good start.

Nice assessment of the game.
Just a couple of mentionables... Khari Campbell made a strong bid to make this team last night. His 8 tackles led the team and his pop at the end of the first quarter was definitely the best hit of the game.
Not too many penalties? Maybe not compared to Denver's 13... but 9 was still too many IMO. The zebras did seem a little flag happy though.
Jimoh - not gonna disagree... just wanted to add an amen... man this guy has 1-800-you-burn tattooed to his butt. Brown had a real solid game and stepped up on a nice run block on a much bigger guy which I always love to see.
Regan Upshaw has a real jump in his step this year. He was getting decent pressure.
Stemke's dud punt was really, really bad.
The Hogettes are pure class.
They must have stopped 200 times for pictures at the game... they make time fot everybody. (ok, that had nothing to do with the game itself, but it was a game observation I HAD hanging out with them -- cut me some slack)
Hasselbeck probably won the third string job on last night's performance alone. He was crisp. He had nice touch even on the long ball which is what people say is his achilles heel. I really like Gibran, but it's hard to beat Hass for a 3rd when he looked twice as good as #1 and #2 (albeit against a lesser defense)

Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.
I love you Boss but we have to see what Gibran can do first!
He didn't get one snap last night! I like Gibran so my opinion is probably one sided on number 3!
The Hogettes are awesome! It really means alot that they are fans of the Skins! Makes our image better!

that was garnell wilds. i dont think hes the best but he could make practice squad. i think lott should maybe start beside taylor. i know it sounds crazy, but bowen wasnt doing all that well and iffy is practicing with the third stringers which isnt a good sign. so i would switch lott to ss and have taylor at fs.

The only problem with that is that Lott isn't exactly the prototypical SS. He's a bit small to be hitting RB's all the time and he is more known for his cover skills.

That's what I was thinking too. That way they really get a chance to see the number 3 guys. There is plenty of film on Brunell and Ramsey to know about what to expect.
