It was real Mike, last year was fun, but you bombed worse than Zorn in the end.

@Redskins: #Redskins announced today that they have relieved Executive Vice President/Head Coach Mike Shanahan of his duties with the team.

The good news is Bruce is still here. He must not be that upset with Dan. Mike did some goods things around here. I am only glad he is gone if we get someone better. Shouldn't be that hard.
For all the Kyle haters out there, you may end up missing the yards and points he put up.

No, the good news is that the entire staff was also fired too. Most notably D Coordinator Haslett and his miserably performing 3-4 defense. =D>

Throw in the horrendous special teams that we had this season as well. Whoever we do bring in next season, I hope they teach these young guys how to tackle correctly. I have never seen worse tackling across the board as a team. I hope Sav Rocca is given his walking papers today as well.

“We are going to take a smart, step-by-step approach to finding the right coach to return the Redskins to where we believe we should be,” General Manager Bruce Allen said in the same statement. “We will analyze accurately and honestly all of the decisions that were made over the past year.”

If the presence of quotes from the G.M. in the release announcing that the coach has been fired mean that the G.M. is safe, then Allen is safe — as is Vikings G.M. Rick Spielman.

This quote should answer the question about Bruce Allen:

“We are going to take a smart, step-by-step approach to finding the right coach to return the Redskins to where we believe we should be,” General Manager Bruce Allen said in the same statement. “We will analyze accurately and honestly all of the decisions that were made over the past year.

Hoping for the best for the franchise moving forward..

I'm glad they got rid of all the coaches - let the new HC bring in who he wants ..

Kyle's offense may have been statistically good but it did not look all that great - we will see if anyone thinks he's worth bringing in
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I read that the assistants will meet with Bruce Allen soon to see if they will be retained for next year.

Great, that's done with. Now we can move on from this crap.
Mike, thanks for your efforts and for cleaning out what was a moribund franchise base. For that, I will be forever grateful. From all accounts, our infrastructure is eons ahead of what it was (e.g. practice bubble)

It is unclear to me exactly who else was fired, other than Kyle, that is, so I'm curious to see how that goes. My guess is that we find a head coach first this time and let them evaluate who of the remaining staff gets to stay and who goes. Excited to see what this team does between now and the draft. I have a feeling we won't have to wait too long to get a HC.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

I don't care what anybody says and I don't care what the record books say, anybody who believes that Zorn had a better tenure here than Shanahan is loony. The Zorn "era" was the biggest waste since Steve Spurrier.

I sincerely believe we're going to see that what Shanahan did here was tear our old crappy house down, level it and take the trash out. He didn't build us the shiny new mcmansion, but he cleared the way for the next guy to do it. The question to me is will Dan Snyder take advantage of that and hire the right guy to move us forward.

I like the move to fire Shanahan. Ive been a fan since 96 and through all of the losing seasons this season has been the worst imo.

At the same time I do think Snyder needs to step back from star players and give his coach the respect any head coach deserves.

We got the talent to win next season. RG3, Morris, Garcon, Reed on offense and the tag team of Orakpo and Kerrigan on defense. We need to get some DBs and maybe another WR.

One coach whos name I heard today that I like..... Jay Gruden from Cincy.

It seems like today is probably the right day to acknowledge the positives of the Shanahan era. He definitely was handed a dreadful roster that also left us in a poor position against the cap. He leaves us with a weak roster, which has some promise in some key positions, and in a much better cap position. For that, I say thanks.

What Mike was nowhere close to achieving was the next step - building a consistently competitive team. The 2 years of cap crap did not help that at all, but his own poor personnel decisions also contributed to the lack of development. Right now, we can only pray that the right structures and the right people are put in place to deliver what we all want - a team to be proud of, year in and year out.

I think the next coach inherits a much better situation than Mike did - I hope they make the most of it.

I was just looking at a poll on WashPost today. Who should be the next coach?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/foo ... e-redskins

Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden are the top picks. lol. It just shows you how unimaginative most fans are. Obviously the two biggest names everybody has heard of. Why in the world is Bill Cowher even on these lists anymore? Why not George Freaking Seifert while we're at it?

To be fair, the next highest votes looked pretty good to me: Russ Grimm (gotta love Redskins' loyalty!), Lovie Smith, Other and Jay Gruden. Bill O'Brien isn't on the list, so maybe he is the "other" people are voting for.

I think Lovie Smith is a great coach, but he kind of got steamrolled in Chicago. I'd have some concerns about him dealing with Snyder and the local media. I love Russ Grimm, but honestly I wouldn't wish this job on him.

Let's be fair, "The 2 years of cap crap did not help that at all" is putting it pretty mildly. The cap penalty was a huge body blow, and if people don't understand that I'd encourage everybody to look at what happened. I hate to keep using the house comparison, but it was literally like if you just cleared your lot and the bank pulled the financing to build your new house the day before you were supposed to start. All of your plans, etc; are out the window, do the best with what you have in your checking account.

Your point still stands though that Mike definitely didn't build a consistently competitive team. That's going to have to be on the next guy.
