Taylor, Washington, et. al

Post by gundo »

Can we please stop the charade now? Can we stop the ridiculous jokes that the next Ronnie Lott can't beat out Andre Lott? This is a man among men. Forget that rookies must "serve their dues." Please put him on the first team where he belongs.

Did anyone else notice how good Marcus Washington is? I knew he was solid, but I didn't realize how quick he is to the ball. We could easily have 2 Pro Bowl LBs this year, and for several years to come.

Wow -- can you believe how exciting the Brunell v. Ramsey controversy is getting??!! I mean, who does Gibbs choose?? They are both throw the ball away so well!! Obviously, these guys are a little slow to pick up on Gibbs' offense. It's early, but it'd be nice to see a few consistent drives against Carolina on Saturday. And, please stop the Hasselback to start hoo-ha. Tim is a great back-up, but he is not a starting QB.

As far as Hasselback, it's easy to get fooled into thinking that last night's performance really meant something. But, few of those guys on Denver's defense will actually be on an NFL roster this year. Nonetheless, even when you consider that, he had some really good throws, and I was impressed. Brunell looked to me about like he looked before he got hurt and Jacksonville sat him down last year. He'll shake off the rust and hopefully get better. I think Ramsey still needs to work on making quicker decisions and avoiding the throws that get batted down at the line of scrimage. Maybe they'll all look like Pro Bowlers when Portis plays a full game and the defense is more worried about him breaking one open. But I've never thrown a pass in the NFL, so what do I know? What REALLY worries me is not having an adequate replacement for Jansen, particularly if Brunell is our QB.

And, you think Mark Rypien was a bonafied starter? It doesn't matter to Gibbs whether his QB is a pedegree purebred or a mangy mutt... as long as he can learn Gibbs system and execute. While I'm sure that he'd prefer that one of his purebreds would step up, he won't hesitate to pull the trigger and go with Hasselback if he thinks he can execute better than the other two. And, at the moment...

Taylor did look good, on the first interception the WR had gone past our CB and Taylor did what a saftey is supposed to do. He saw the WR was open read the QB and reacted. Not only that but he was aware enough to turn his head to look for the ball thus avoiding any penalty which helped him get the interception. The second one was even better. On live t.v all you could see was the TE wide open and then zooooom in a flash it got intercepted and touchdown. For a second I thought it was Lavar, just because of the size simalarity and also because it was so close to the line of scrimage I didnt think Taylor or any saftey would of been there that fast. I thought it was pretty impressive that a rookie didnt fall for the fake where the TE pretending to block then goes out for the pass, but yet some of our veterns continue to fall for the same trick.

Can Ramsey possibly audible anymore? It's one thing to do it in Spurrier's offense, but with Gibbs?
Neither Ramsey or Brunnel looked good last night, but I was especially disappointed with Ramsey. I understand that it was just the first preseason game so I didn't have high expectations. However, it seemed like Ramsey was changing the play almost every other down.
Another thing I noticed is that we are going to have problems with the run this year. It seemed that they could run at will.

I thought the Broncos did a good job of running at the hole vacated by the blitzing linebackers. Arrington intimated that they didn't show anything last night, so I think when we run those blitzes when it counts we will have the safeties cheating over to cover the open areas. Plus the Mike Barrow was out and he typically would have been covering over there as well. I was quite surprised at the number of blitzes we ran last night.

Marcus was so good I almost forgot. Looking forward to a whole game watching him, Taylor and hopefully the rest of the D do the job.

OUCH! .... easier killer.... let's give the guy a season or 2 under a real defensive guru before we put the "fluke" tag on him..... IMO.... he's still could possibly be the "choosen one" 8)

Taylor will be working with the 1st team offense soon. As far as Ramsey and Brunell they both have a lot of rust to get rid of. Neither played at the end of last year and have had just a little over a week of traing camp. If by the 3rd preseason game neither is playing much better better then maybe we worry some. Hasselback should have looked good, He finished last year as a starter so playing against a bunch of back up players should be easy for Him.

I have a feeling that the defense will surprise some people. Don't get me wrong, they will have trouble defending the run -- they simply don't have the personnel up front to be a consistent run-stopping team. However, even with the loss of Champ, they have significantly upgraded the overall talent. And the increase in coaching talent is not even measurable.

By the way, I reviewed the game tape yesterday -- Matt Bowen made 4 glaring mistakes in 2 series. One, by biting on the naked bootleg; three, by not maintaining his gap coverage on run plays that made Quentin look like Barry Sanders. They were horrible mistakes that a veteran should not make, even in the 1st pre-season game. I wouldn't be surprised if Ohalete gets some more playing time against Carolina.
