Skins look "rough"
Gibbs has said it for the last week, and we really got to see his point last night.
1. The O-line was not opening holes for the RBs. Portis can make something out of nothing....after he gets passed the line of scrimmage.
2. WR's were not getting open.
3. Ramsey was taking too much time, Brunell was overthrowing, Hassellbeck was playing against special teamers.
5. The defense was getting lit up in the beginning...but Springs/Taylor's interception saved them. Seeing the Skins hold Denver to field goals reminded me of Ray Rhodes' defense. Still, the screen pass seems to be the Redskins Defense's worst enemy.
6. Ade Jimoh should be cut today
Did anyone see the kick return where another player tried to catch the ball in front of Chad Morton. Don't the players know that Morton IS our kick returner?????
Well, we've only got 4 more days until the Panthers.

I agree with all of your assessments OafusP but I want to add something. Even with this list of faults, something is better. Last year we would have gotten skunked in this same game! So coaching is right on, so we will get the other problems straight by regular season play!
I want to see what Gibran can do! He looked really good in camp.

My favortie line from the Simpsons:
Flanders: "Looks like someone is having a pre-rapture party!"
Homer: "No Flanders, it's a meeting of gay witches for abortion , you wouldn't be interested!"

Let me add to that:
VAST improvement in the area of much fewer penalties!
I am not that concetned at this point because:
1) The number of new players - they are still learning each other and I think the team chemistry is starting to develop
2) Denver is a rather good team and we held our own
3) We seem to have consistent depth - play didn't fall off as much for us as it seemed to for Denver
4) Gibbs is going to play preseason without much razzle dazzle or anything that will give away our strengths - I can even see him trying to create an impression of weakness in an area of strength
All in all, not a bad start, all things considered.

Gibran is an afterthought. He is destined for the practice squad. Gibbs likes Vets and #8, #11, and #4 all have game experience. Also, Gibran is the Steve Spurrier Experiment, and Gibbs does not have time for that. That said, I think Hamden has the potential to become a journey man if he sticks with it. He needs to pay his dues the way Hasselbeck did...and maybe he will resurface like Warner, B. Johnson, and Delhomme did!
One other thing that I like about last night was the fact that WE WON A CLOSE GAME. Yes it was pre-season, but last year we ALWAYS LOST IN THE 4th QUARTER...this time we got the ball back with just minutes left, drove down the field, and won the game. IF we won the 4th quarter last season we would have been 10-6. Good coaching gives the players a sense of urgency when the game is on the line.

I agree with NikiH. I was commenting to a friend this morning that, eventhough we were beaten on pretty much the same play by Denver on the touchdown and 2-pointer, there was a sense of control, and order. Last year, one bad play=deflating of the team. Not this year. It looks promising, though it hurts to lose Jansen.
Back and better than ever!
LOL I meant his "passes" looked good. His football passes, I mean! Ok I give up! LOL He is much cuter then Hasselbeck though, you have to give me that one!

Another thing that was great was the all the guys that went to the ball. It has been a long time since i seen so many jersey's around the ball on the o & D. It was not just one guy making the tackle and there was not that many missed tackles. I know it is pre-season but just knowing that they have the sense of going to the play and not waiting for the play come to them, is most reassuring.
Go skins!!!!
Go skins!!!!
My favorite part was seeing Lavar getting up off the QB. Even if he missed it by a second he was right there. NOt steps and steps away!

The greatest moment in the....Sean Taylor picks off the pass and goes in for the TD...but thats not it....the camera pans and shows a brief and i mean breif shot of the sideline an Gibbs is smiling, in shock like what just happen, but smiling.
It was at that moment it sunk in that Gibbs is once again our coach.
Go Skins!!!
