I ask this again. Why replace a crap kicker with a crap kicker. They both suck. There has GOT to be a human being in this world that can kick better than these two idiots.

This guy looked awesome for TBin the preseason

Kai Forbath, K: With Connor Barth receiving a new contract, there was little chance the UCLA rookie would make the squad. The rookie, however, will likely find a job, since he nailed all 5 exhibition FG attempts, including a 55 yarder.

Problem is he was at the bottom of the preseason in Touchbacks. Cundif can kick off through the end zone, but can't make 50 yarders. This kid, Forbath, can't easily make 50 yarders, but can barely get kick-offs to the end zone. Clearly Shanny prioritizes the touchbacks, but one more game like this for Cundif leaves only one option, Return to Gano or explore keeping two kickers, one that can make FGs, Forbath and one that can make Touchbacks, Cundif.

Ever since seeing him in the TB preseason game, I thougt Forbath was the kicker we needed to get, but I never thought that he would be this good. 10 - 10 with most FGs being over 40 yards!

I feel that his KO's have been better than expected which means room for more improvement.

Anyone talk about this yet:

Kai wears 2 different size shoes. 13 on left foot and 10 on right foot (something like that)...not sure of size.

His right kicking foot is a TIGHT fit........works for him. He has to put a shoe horn into it to stretch it out.

What ever work........KICKER extraordinaire.....!!!

They just asked him on CSN, he wears a 10.5 and a 8.5 on the other. He said its a little uncomfortable. If the shoe fits wear it,,,

For what it's worth, the Sporting News currently ranks Graham Gano #1 over all among kickers. The sample size is still small but in addition to being good on FGs his kickoffs have produced touchbacks 14 of 15 times helping make average field position for opponents 19.7 yards from the goal line.

Cundiff is a 20th. So far, we are 25th with Potter/Forbath.

We are 8 of 13 on touchbacks and covered the others well (19.5).

Again, small sample size.

It's week 11.

Carolina does not ask Gano to attempt directional kicks toward the pylon. Only Prater of Denver (Mile High, prolific offense) has more touchbacks.

Gano's 14 of 15. He's missed one from 40+ and is 5 of 5 from 50+ (NFL best) including last week's game winner at 49R.

He's the only qualifying kicker in the league with opponents' average start inside their own 20, i.e., NFL best.

He's having a Pro Bowl/All Pro year.

some here think that because a player is playing well for another franchise, we'd be a 'better team' with that player here - JUST AMAZING!!

there are a bunch of players we brought in that did not play as well here as they did elsewhere ….

and then

the coaches changed the defensive scheme and the offense and we all know that we would have been much better off if they had not done that …

I hear you, but Gano was one player where a lot of board members (myself included) felt it was a mistake at the time and said so. Normally when we let a guy go and he shines somewhere else, most of us scratch our heads. But this case was different.

Oh well. No use crying over what happened. Maybe one day we'll be permitted to leave special teams limbo.

I also liked Gano, and especially how 'big' a leg he has - that boy is a really good kicker

Danny Smith was recognized as a really good special teams coordinator by his peers …
he probably was not as much of a 'yes man' as Mike likes on his staff

I get your point... however, I was baffled by the Gano deal last year as well... but I'm not going to start patting myself on the back over my incredible 20-20 hindsight... doing that is just intellectually dishonest. That is SJ's point. If we look, we can find plenty of cases where we objected to the release of a player... and were wrong. Somehow, I just don't see many posts like that here...

I understand. How's this? i thought we would have a winning record this year. Barring a miracle, I was flat out wrong.

I suppose I was patting myself on the back a hair. But honestly it was more about making sure some other people realized how wrong they were. Gamo was not horrible and the blocks were not on him. He was a good kicker and we should not have doubted him the way we did as a group.
