ABC's coverage of the game.

Post by JPFair »

Overall, I think the coverage by ABC was atrocious. The usually reliable Al Michaels and John Madden were as rusty as the Redskins offense. Several times they made obvious mistakes. Also, they didn't announce the severity of Jansen's injury until well into the second half when all the local stations and papers had already reported it.
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!

One other comment that I thought was tremendously confusing. Al Michaels said during one Bronco scoring drive that defensive backs could not bump a receiver for the first 5 yards off the line of scrimmage. I thought "WHAT!" When did they change that? Later in the broadcast I thought I heard Madden indicate that the ONLY time that DBs can bump a receiver is within the first 5 yards. Which is the way that it has always been.

I guess those guys need to work on their "games" as well. We can't expect the national broadcast to have anywhere near the attention to detail to our team as we have.

Give them a break, they report the info when they get it! They aren't reporters who's jobs depend on giving injury reports. They're in a booth, should they say "Hey Al, I'll be right back, I'm going down to talk to the trainers to see if there are any injuries, cover me for a few minutes".

I like Al Michaels, but Madden irrates me. He picks a topic and then beats it to death for 20 minutes. Thank God for the mute button!
