Hasselbeck part of QB Competition

Whats your thoughts. Hasselbeck on his first drive looked better than Ramsey or Brunell all game. I'm personally a Ramsey fan but i'll be damned. Hasselbeck looked really good. He's got a rifle of an arm and he really did put the ball everywhere it needed to be for the reciever to make a catch. Give me your opinion.

Don't think he was playing against the #1 Denver defense, so have to take that into consideration.

But he did look good.

Yeah but he was doing that at training camp against the #1 defense. I think Sunday we'll see a bit more of him. I wouldnt be suprised if he didnt start a preseason game.

Hasselbeck looked really tough except for the almost INT. He was puttin the ball on the money better than either of the three. He could definitely be in the running for starter. I wouldnt be surprised. Ramsey has been jittery and Brunell has been throwin the ball out of bounds.

I wish there were a way to keep both Gibby and Tim, but...gun to my head and pressed for an answer, I'm liking Tim for the #3.

I think HSB is better than average. I can run a offense and .........throw a deep ball.

Ramsey and Brunell better start picking it up a bit, or they'll be competing for the number 2 slot at QB.

Brunell tried the fade to Coles twice -- once he threw out of bounds and the other Coles just didn't catch. All said, he looked well and read the Broncos blitz schemes like a book.

Ramsey looked like a scared school-girl in the pocket. :oops:

Last year everyone blamed the dubious "Fun & Gun" offense with its lack of pass-protection for Ramsey's indecision and record high number of sacks and deflected passes. What now?? Did he forget his lucky rabbit's foot in the locker room?

Tim Hasselbeck appeared outstanding for a third-stringer. Strangely enough, Hasselbeck got in just as much game time as Ramsey -- obviously the real QB controversy isn't over number one (Brunell) but who will back him up...

I bet Philly wishes they never released Hasselbeck. He looked good last year and is only improving. I hope the Skins lock him up to a long term contract.

I'm glad Hasselbeck did good but I REALLY wanted to see Gibran get to play. I mean, it's pre season, why can't you play all four of our QB's. It stinks he hasn't gotten a shot. It's just like last year's preseason.

The Hamdan issue aside, Hasselbeck looked crisp and had two nice throws that I noticed. One to Jafar (love the big bombs) and to Darnerien to put us in field goal range. Tim looked a lot better than what I saw of him at camp.

He was never going to be more than a third string guy in Philly. He couldn't even be that while we were shopping Feeley around.

I wouldn't be too sure on that one Stouff. I think Philly kept Feeley over Hassleback. They got a 2nd rounder from Miami for Feeley and that pick is looking really good right now.

Also, they drafted some kid out of DuPont-ville to groom. Say what you want about Andy Reid in Championship games (he can't win 'em). But the guy can develop talent. I've heard Hassleback say that Reid was the best coach a QB could ever have.

QB should be an open competition. If Tim looks good again next week then he should get some time in the first quarter of game three.

Timmy looked solid. It would be interesting to see him run the first team offense at some point this preseason, in a game. Gibby needs to get some PT, too, IMO.

Yes, I agree that Tim-mah looked good last night. I am, however, not ready to give him the #3 spot until I see Hamdan in action. They both have looked good in practice, so the only true test will be with meaningful minutes.

There are quite a few "tough" reviews on Brunell. Though his stats were not impressive, there wasn't much of an opportunity.

He started out with a nice out after rolling to his opposite hand and fired a strike to Coles.

He later tried the fade (Coles one on one vs Bailey), but Bailey easily ran with him (Coles looked slow compared to Bailey), then Bailey cut in front of him (are they going to call that this year "impeding the progress"), otherwise that ball is on the money.

He missed on a toughh deep out (overthrew out of bounds).

Nothing much else was open except short passes for nothing.

The point is that Brunell did not make stupid mistakes like the Broncos QB's. Denver totally outplayed us but stupid mistakes cost them the game. Brunnell also looked like he knew what he was doing when checking (changing) plays at the line. These veteran descisions is why Gibbs went out and got him.

It struck me that Tim H. looked more alive than Ramsey. He seemed to think quicker, react quicker..and he moves quicker.

Maybe...Ramsey is the "strong-armed QB of the future" who would have developed a mysterious injury and been placed on IR, if he had come up 15 years ago. Then he would have spent the season standing beside Gibbs and learning.

No, I don't want to believe it, but there is something "not quite ready" about Ramsey. It's as if the game is going full-speed, and Ramsey is playing at about 85% speed. Just a little behind.

I think Ramsey is suffering from Spurrier-itis. He seems to have developed some nasty habits playing in Spurriers system that are still with him. It was painfully evident that he was holding on to the ball way too long last night, even though he didn't get sacked. I think he needs to get Spurrier out of his head and start realizing that the way he's being tutored now, is the RIGHT way.

I dont think that i'm the only one that noticed he was taking 5 or 8 step drops out of the snap. The other thing is Gibbs had him going straight back other than Hasselbeck and Brunell rolling to there sides. That was interesting to me. Ramsey will shape out of it. He just needs some time.
