There's just something 'wrong' about Cleveland and their sports teams ...
at least it seems to me ... bad karma ... or something
I could almost feel sorry for them ...
but
sports fans in Cleveland are like the people that buy a house near an airport and then complain about the noise
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Once upon a time I would've scoffed at anyone suggesting that the Redskins might one day have to change their name. Now I'm not so sure. The more I read about this the more support seems to be growing in favor of the vociferous few who CHOOSE to take offense. And WTF is Obama doing weighing in on this? Hey, POTUS? Why don't you spend a little more time trying to reduce our massive budget deficit and a little less time opining on subjects you have no business talking about. Forgive me Lord, but the man is a tool from the word go.
^^ I hear you and while we are 'seeing & hearing' more on this, I really don't think that the NFL is going to 'make' Snyder change the name
the 'noise' is there but I think that 'history' is on the side of the 'quieter' majority

That's about right. At least our logo doesn't look like Cleveland's!!!
I'd like to see someone try to make a similar parody with the Redskins' logo. All it would do is show that our name and logo weren't created in the spirit of racism.

That's a fair point. I think our logo is very respectful compared to Cleveland.
I'm not sure though that if the New York Jews logo was a tasteful side portrait of Sigmund Freud it would make any less of a point.
Also, I don't think anybody is arguing that the Redskins name and logo were "created in the spirit of racism". That's a complete straw man.

What would be the reason for creating a portrait of Freud, though? At least with the Redskins it makes sense. The origin of Redskins as a team name has more in common with the Trojans than it does "the Jews" or "the Chinamen." Grasp this point and you see why much of the debate is actually misguided.

Really? I see that argument offered all the time. Why else are people so eager to point out that George Preston Marshall was racist and the owner when the name changed?

My point was that the New York Jews would be an unacceptable name whether it had a whacky mascot logo or whether the logo was a respectful portrait of one of the most influential Jewish men in history.

I REALLY do not think the Redskins will be 'forced' to make a change ...
IF this should happen - I suggest we go to the Washington Reds - then we could keep the fight song and everything else the same

YEAH!!! He has a different opinion from me so therefore he should go to hell!!
No he should go to hell because he runs his mouth about how the term "Redskins" is an "undeniable slur". That's not his opinion. He's stating as if it's a fact.

It was used to describe the type of paint Native Americans from Delaware used on their faces. Costas is wrong. He needs to report on sports, that's his job. His job isn't to interject political opinions into his reporting. The team was not named on the basis of slurring Native Americans. That should be the end of the discussion. But since you agree with Costas, what do you refer to the team as?

Who said I agree with Costas? I actually don't agree that the team should change its name. But I can listen to Bob Costas express his opinion about the name of a freaking football team without feeling that he needs to "burn in hell".
If the whole political correctness part of this debate is annoying, I can assure you that the insane and ignorant overreactions by the other side of the debate are just flat out disturbing.
And btw claiming that the only thing people used the term Redskins for was "to describe the type of paint Native Americans from Delaware" has to be one of the STUPIDEST things I have ever heard. Like some rancher in Texas who called a pack of comanches "redskins" was really just thinking about the facepaint of the Delaware native americans. lol. Give me a freaking break. The reason the word is an issue is because at some point it has been used as an ethnic slur. End of story.
