I posted in another thread, I couldn't sleep last night, waiting for this, Joe Gibbs, back on the sideliine, with all that it entails, even in a pre-season, talent evaluation game that has no value other than as an evaluation tool... but I'm PUMPED!!! And immediately after I get off work, it's time to go home and fix my meal/snacks/lovely cold beverages for the game... only 11 hours, 15 minutes and 5 seconds till game time!

Me ? In preparation for the Big Night,I took two days off from my primary job with the State of New York. This morning, I'm taking the wife and kids on a hike. I'm going to encourage them to run and jump and chase bugs, just to wear them down. I'll get home around three this afternoon, and bolt off to the second job, for which I set my own hours. I'll finish a good half of it, and shoot home in enough time to catch the matchup I've been waiting for.
That's right. TRIPLE H vs EUGENE ON MONDAY NIGHT RAW !!
No, seriously. RAW doesn't come on until 9, anyway. :)

Mezzkin, you sound like you're running for office. :)

As far as tonight, I'm just looking forward to Joe Gibbs standing on the sidelines. He's not going to tip his hand to what type of offense he's going to run, so I'm not looking for anything in that regard. I'm also looking to see how pumped up the players are.

The last two years, Steve Spurrier treated pre-season games like it was the Super Bowl, a showcase for a high octane offense. Joe Gibbs won't make the same mistake.

My portbale TV will be on my lap. I will be faking like Im listening to music on my PC. The headphones will be plugged into the TV. I will be watching, and squinching.

I can't tell you how many different things tonight's game means.

It's Gibbs back on the sideline.

It's a chance to see Portis, Brunell, Springs, Taylor and all the other new players wearing the burgundy-and-gold -- for real -- for the first time.

It's a chance to see how the chemistry is developing between Brunell and the receivers.

It's a chance to see real blocking schemes in use.

It's a chance to see lesser-known players take their only real shot at impressing the coaches in game situation.

It's the first chance to hear if (and that's a big IF) Larry Michael has any chance of fitting in with Sonny and Sam.

And so many more.

But basically, it's the chance to say:

WE'RE BACK!
***** Hail To The Redskins!!! *****

BA + MS = A New Beginning

This is my favorite part. I'll be excited to see the known players, but I want to see the no-names that all of our campers came back and reported to us about.

Thats where the fun is for me.

Tonight's game means a couple of things for me:

1. First and foremost, it's my chance to see Joe Gibbs back on the sidelines for the Redskins. That really excites me.

2. Otherwise, while I am eagerly waiting watching the Skins play...I am not completely whacked out about watching it because I know the real "team" will not be playing tonight. Instead, we're gonna see a lot of rookies that will likely eventually be cut.

Because of #2, my excitement is mainly focusing on watching Gibbs.

OK...I admit it...I might...just might...have to cry tears of manly joy.

Seriously...I just turned 30 this year so it will be a very nostalgic moment for me to see Gibbs roaming the sideline again. I get to relive my childhood/teenage years in a small way and that's pretty cool.

To be quite honest I don't care if they win or lose. I am just looking forward to seeing a well coached and disciplined Redskin team. If we see that, the wins will eventually take care of themselves.

Also, I think one of the most important things for me to watch is how many penalties (specifically false starts) the opening roster has.

The best part of preseason is seeing the guys that are trying to make a name for themselves. All week at camp I have marvelled at the way players like Scott Cloman catches everything that comes his way.

It means real football for the first time in a long time around this town. I am stoked about it.

I missed the first round of glory years, and tonight's game ushers in the next round for the Skins.
Back and better than ever!

I agree w/ Trey...all year I have been saying that I was able to watch Gibbs as a kid and that made me the fan that I am today.

Now, I get to see it again from an adult perspective w/ more knowlege of the game, and an appreciation of how hard it is to win (have had 11 years of bad teams).

7 Hours to go!
