What does "spread" mean?

I was just out of curiousity checking out that site, monkeybet.com. I wanted to see the odds for the game tomorrow! It says the spread is -1.5 next to the Skins and +1.5 for the Broncos. Does that mean they think we are going to lose by 1.5 points? And what does that mean as far as pay out? If you bet a dollar you get 1.50? Sorry I'm a novice. Slot machines I know, but not sports betting.

Ok I had to edit this post. What does the column listed as line mean? It says -110. Then it says over 34.0 next to the Skins and under 34.0 next to the Broncos.

It means they're giving the Broncos 1.5 points on their bets. So if you pick the Skins to win they have to win by 2 more more to cover the spread.

Over/Under is total points for the game. If you think both teams will combine for more than 34 points you bet the over. If you think they'll combine for less than 34 you bet the under.

No idea about the line, though. I don't gamble. Betting on preseason football is probably a terrible idea.

I'm not placing a bet just yet. I was just curious about the betting stuff. And GF you know alot for someone who doesn't bet! ;-)
