Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

EX PACKER GM sold on Drew Henson

OXNARD, Calif. - Former Green Bay Packers general manager Ron Wolf knows a little something about quarterbacks.

He is, after all, the man who traded for Brett Favre back when nobody knew who Favre was.

So, when he says he has scouted Cowboys rookie Drew Henson, and Drew Henson is no Chad Hutchinson, you listen. You listen hard.

"Drew Henson is a better player at his position than Chad Hutchinson," Wolf said. "The fact that he has been out of football for three years and how he has picked it up has impressed me."

Henson, like Hutchinson, is trying to come back to football after a foray playing professional baseball.

Don't mistake Wolf for one of those people who gets enamored with a player and sees what he wants to see, because Wolf was not always sold on Henson. He, in fact, did not care for Henson while evaluating tape of his college games while working in Green Bay.

Wolf now says he was wrong. One hundred percent dead wrong.

"He had a day here [ Thursday] that was unbelievable throwing the ball," Wolf said. "That is not just by accident."

No word from NFLPA

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has not heard from the league office or the NFL Players Association regarding the release of quarterback Quincy Carter on Wednesday.

A spokesman from the players association said Friday the group remains interested in investigating the circumstances of Carter's departure, which, according to several sources, was related to a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. League rules stipulate that a player can't be cut just for violating the substance abuse policy. The filing of a formal grievance is possible.

Jones refuses to disclose the reasons for Carter's release, but remains firm that the Cowboys have nothing to worry about.

"I don't have any anticipation of hearing from the league or the NFLPA," Jones said. "I know the circumstances involved. They will get their information, and when they do, I don't anticipate much to do about this."

Incentives to win

Quarterback Vinny Testaverde has a chance to earn another $4.5 million this season, thanks to performance incentives.

Testaverde signed a one-year, $1.1 million deal in June, which is pretty normal for a backup. Incentives were added that compensated him appropriately if he became a starter. Testaverde stands to get a $3 million bonus if he plays 80 percent of the plays this season and the Cowboys win eight games. He stands to earn another $950,000 if he is selected to the Pro Bowl and another $500,000 if the Cowboys get to the Super Bowl.

"We set it up so if I play, then yeah, there is more involved," Testaverde said. "I came in with the mind-set I was going to get myself ready to play. The circumstances were I would be given an opportunity to compete for a starting job."

Woodson visits

Safety Darren Woodson cannot practice, nor will he be able to anytime soon. He is still recovering from back surgery July 27.

None of which stopped him from flying to California on Friday to join his teammates for training camp.

"We want him in the meetings. We want him around the team," Jerry Jones said. "He is such a leader. That's why we need him here. I talked to him a couple days ago. He was excited about getting out here and joining the team."

Woodson is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

That's not saying much

League rules stipulate that a player can't be cut just for violating the substance abuse policy. The filing of a formal grievance is possible.

That team in Texas never said WHY he was cut so I don't think they are worried
