Redskins re-signed QB Rex Grossman.
At this point, Mike Shanahan might as well give his favorite player a lifetime contract. Grossman's return shouldn't affect the Redskins' expected deal with free agent Pat White. Going on 33 and coming off a season where he didn't attempt a pass, Grossman's roster spot likely isn't guaranteed, but he'll be leaned on for his experience in Shanny's system during OTAs and training camp.

I don't think anyone anticipates that the FRANCHISE will be available for training camp and we don't want to run Kirk into the ground. My guess is that's why we've got 4. Kirk will run with the first teamers; White will probably run some of Griff's version of the vanilla stuff in preseason/advance the team a little further in practices; Sexy Rexy will clean up the rest.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

That is they norm for most teams during training camp. Some will even have five. Considering RGIII may not be able to practice on training camp, that would put us under the norm.
White hasn't signed yet, that I know of, but even with him that only leaves the healthy QBs during the mini camps.
Nothing shocking here. Just what most teams do.

Also will train our defense to better defend against the read option. I think its a very wise move. They'll be playing against a QB who is faster (or so it appeared to me on video) than Kaepernick & Wilson.

People are making to big of a deal of all the QBs we have. We have backups. For insurance. And for practice. Just in case cousins or Rex or white goes down between now and preseason we have another backup. We also have veteran leadership to Kirk and white with Rex. And now we can practice against teams like San Fran and Seattle and Carolina with the signing of Pat White. It's just more depth to the team. Maybe having 4 QBs will offer some trade bait at some point.

MS will only suit up 2 QBs in the regular season. Those will be RGIII and KC. My guess is the plan will be:
RGIII: #1 (once healthy)
KC: #2
Grossman: QB-coach-in-training (that won't suit up but was VERY effective last year assisting B-O-T-H RGIII AND KC)
White: RGIII preseason fill in and practice player
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

the NFL should recognize the opportunity for this to be a 'must see' grudge match ...

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

Same as always. Just with White and no Johnathan Crompton.
I don't get why this is confusing to people.
Pat will not be on this team during the regualr season (if he makes it) for his QB prowness. He will be a utility player. Another threat within the option. Possibly a returner. Pat White allows mike to get production out of a player while also having him serve the role of a third QB...
Some people don't like the idea of only having 2 QB's active. If Pat can be productive, make the roster and be a decent offensive player out the backfiled, from the slot, receiving and passing... He's our trojan horse third QB...
Of course that's assuming he can last. But I'd much rather talk about scenarios that benefit the team than drone on and on about what won't work. Obviously people didn't get enough crow last year.

CSN Washington believes the Redskins are considering carrying just two quarterbacks this season.
Reporter Rich Tandler takes the presence of four tight ends and kickoff specialist John Potter as a sign that coach Mike Shanahan may be prepared to go forward with only Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins under center. That would be a risky proposition considering RGIII's health, but would leave Rex Grossman as the odd man out. Although he's one of Shanahan's favorite players, Grossman didn't attempt a single pass in 2012.

Not really. First, I suspect RGIII will be 100% by game 1. And second, it's not like Rexy won't still be out there in case there were a setback. I don't think anyone is really that desperate. I could see a division rival picking him up to pump him for info on the offense, though.

What's really the risk? Say RGIII suffers a season-ending injury. Then you bring in Rex Grossman off the streets. As long as Kirk doesn't go down in the same game, we're pretty much in the same place we would have been having Rex on the team all along.
The only risk I can see is another team grabbing Rex if we cut him. Could happen, but I wouldn't bet on it.
The only thing different this season from last is that Mike & Kyle have 2 QBs that they know can play well - I don't know if they still will feel they need to keep Rex
and
by the end of training camp there will not be any talk or conversation about RG3 - he is going to be as good and most likely a better QB than he was before last season
If they decide to go with 3 QBs it will not be because of concerns about the knee

What other reason would it be??
If RGIII's knee is good to go, and Cousins has a decent preseason, I think Rex is gone.
IF we keep 3 QBs ... it will NOT have anything to do with RG3's knee

RG3's knee is not yet "good to go" - it will be
Kirk will ALSO be better than last season ...
why would you keep 3 QBs

I wouldn't keep 3 QBs unless there is concern about RGIII's knee. That's kind of my point.
You've said if we keep 3 QBs it won't have anything to do with the knee. So why else would they keep 3 QBs? To mentor more? To have an overpriced third stringer? Because they love Rex? Why?
Are you just trying to say you think RGIII's knee won't be a problem so its a moot point?

I would keep 3 simply because with 2 you're always one play away from needing a backup. I'm guessing most teams keep 3 but don't know that for sure.
In Rexy's favor is his knowledge of the offense. Also, he's more valuable to us than he is to anyone else unless he's on a team playing us.
He probably has a "job" here one way or the other come this fall.
