Kai Forbath - New Kicker

I also hope that Forbath can continue to make all his FGs

that's what kickers should do - that is what they are paid to do

HOWEVER

part of the job is to also kick the ball off a tee - ALL THAT MATTERS ABOUT KICKOFFS is that the next play should be at the 20 yard line or inside it - No kicker keeps his job if they cannot do that consistently

“It shows you what type of guy he is,” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. “He came in [Week 6 for a workout] competition from a couple of veterans, and won the competition. It’s always kind of nice to take a chance on a guy that hasn’t had an opportunity in the National Football League. … To see a guy that handles himself the right way have that type of success, you are always rooting for a guy like that. He’s a class guy. It looks like he has ice in his veins, and he believes that he is going to make every kick, and he has.”

Forbath said he pushed thoughts of the potential record out of his head, and maintained the same even keel with which he approaches his games and kicks.

But he admitted that on a windy day, his kicks caused a bit more anxiety as they traveled through the air.

“Well, today, me and Sav both kind of watched them for a little bit longer because of the wind that was holding it up a little bit,” he said. “I got nervous on the first one. I thought it might come up short. We did it like normal today. We didn’t react differently. Kind of in the back of our minds, we knew what was going on, but we didn’t make that an issue, and didn’t try to do anything different.”

I hope it's a joke. If it's not, someone doesn't know football. Maybe Denver should cut Peyton Manning because he can't run. If Forbath, who probably a pro-bowl choice , never learns to kick deep, it wouldn't kill us to give up one of our receivers who never contributes for a kick-off specialist. Would I rather have Forbath, or Briscoe?
Need I ask.

While I agree with you on this, people didn't seem to notice in this particular case a lot of those comments were from October when he was first signed. But I do agree with you. We seem to have the same arguments with the same people and make the same points on the site. Whenever we have a losing streak, the same doom and gloomers make the same lame points and the same people rebut them. The same people call for whoever the HC is to get canned every time we lose a game. It's sort of a merry go round.

I was thinking about that reading the "we want dallas" threads this week. Fans are either way too angry or way too happy about the team. There just isn't much in between.

Everyone wanted Danny Smith fired. We have a young kicker who has yet to miss, who more than likely brought him in and picked him? Danny. Will he get credit? No. Why? That'd make too much sense. Cundiff? That was a Mike S. pick.

Our new PR, will Danny get credit for that? No. His guy singled handily sealed that Baltimore game, credit? Nope.

The practice bubble. "Fans" refused to give Mike credit for it. They refused to admit that the bubble was something that improved the franchise. The day it was built, we didn't get a W in the column, so it doesn't count. However, leading up the biggest game of the century for us, we've used it multiple times because of the wind. Again, no credit.

Last week of my summer vacation. Dang.

Anyway, woke up and thought of Kai Forbath for some reason. I remember hearing he hit a monster kick early in camp. Did a little digging and found this:

Also, who is the emergency kicker on the skins if you got hurt during a game or had crippling diarrhea?

A: both! and my guess would be sav or logan paulsen since he grew up playing soccer

Q: Do you ever really get over the stage freight of having to make an important kick with millions of people watching you?

A: no i love getting a chance to go out there and hit a game winning kick. The rush of it is almost impossible to describe.

Q: How does it feel to kick behind the most badass longsnapper in the NFL?

A: Its a great feeling knowing i never have to worry about having a bad snap. The ball is ALWAYS there.

GREAT to see that the Redskins are seeing a BIG difference in the depth of kickoffs ...

this kid has a big leg and it was kind of surprising that he did not seem to get the ball very deep at first ... that seems to have been resolved .. :twisted:
