Redskins have to beat Cowboys (lose tiebreakers)
If the Cowboys win vs. the Redskins next week, they will become the division winner.
This is because the Cowboys have the third tiebreaker!!!
The first tiebreaker is head to head games.
All three teams, Redskins, Cowboys and Giants will have split their head to head games, 1-1.
Second tie breaker is division record.
Redskins are 4-1
Cowboys are 3-2
Giants are 2-3
(So if the Redskins lose next week, they will be tied at 4-2 with the Cowboys)
The third tie breaker is your win/loss record against common opponents.
(I'll exclude the Giants right now since they are 2-3 in the division and cannot win the division.)
Washington and Dallas have played the following teams in common: Saints, Bengals, Bucs, Falcons, Steelers, Panthers, Ravens and Browns. Against those teams:
Redskins are 4-4 against those teams.
Cowboys are 5-3 against those teams.
Redskins must beat the Cowboys next week to win the division. Otherwise, they will be 9-7 and fighting for the last wildcard.

Thanks, Fleetus. Great breakdown.
And he's right; 3rd is common opponents..
Had to look it up myself.

For a wild card spot - YES.
To become the Division winner, NO, different tiebreakers.

I said, several times during the game thread, that it didn't matter if Dallas won or lost today... the season comes down to next weeks game, at FedEx... for both teams.grampi wrote:So I guess I was rooting for Dallas to lose today for nothing then....crap!
This is likely to pour gasoline on the coals of the best rivalry in football, no matter the outcome.

True.
You can bet the Cowboys will get the same message. It has the potential to be a war.
