After spending most of the 2003 off-season with the 49ers, he joined the Carolina Panthers during training camp but was released at the end of August.
Nowland was a three-year starter at Auburn, starting 33 games in all. He was an All-SEC selection as a senior and rated one of the top 12 collegiate centers in the country by The Sporting News. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Nowland was also named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll his junior and senior seasons.
