It may have been just a publicity stunt, but in the 70's there was talk of me trying out to be a lineman for the Redskins. The closest I got was getting my picture taken with Joe Theismann sitting on my shoulder.

Didn't Doonesbury have a character who was a George Allen "find" called something like "Lava Lava Lennie" who was so big that he played the entire defensive line?
And for more Doonesbury obscurity, "BD" was named for Brian Dowling, I believe. He was the Yale QB when Gary Trudeau was a student...and in the early '70s Dowling was on the Redskins roster...maybe 3rd string QB, maybe a pre-season cut...I can't remember. If he ever suited up in the burgundy&gold, that would make two Doonesbury characters who played for the Redskins.
